CHESTER CHILDBIRTH APPEAL

Putting mothers and children first There is not a mother, baby or child being cared for at the Countess of Chester Hospital N.H.S. Foundation Trust who has not benefited from the work of Chester Childbirth Appeal.

This small local charity depends on support from the surrounding community, and the facilities that we have provided over and above those funded by the N.H.S. have benefited people passing through our City as well as its residents and the surrounding districts.

The Charity was started in 1991, by Appeal Director Pat Daniels M.B.E. and five of her midwife colleagues. It has raised over £1 million which has been spent on facilities suggested by the patients, children and their relatives.

Some achievements so far: Providing: n En-suite accommodation for bereaved parents on the labour ward, where the parents can be together until mother is fit for home

n The Snowdrop Room where their baby can be tended n An Adolescent Unit, where teenagers have their own space n Christopher Wing en-suite accommodation for parents of very ill children being cared for on the wards n Jeffrey Kelson suite – accommodation for parents so they can be near their precious premature babies n A Water Birth Suite n All the Courtyard Gardens n Café, Shop and Play area – The Comfort Zone, available to all n Open Monday to Friday 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Our latest completed project was the provision of an outdoor playground for children and their siblings, and a Sensory Garden for those with complex medical needs. Mediquip 4 Kids the Manchester based charity contributed £16,000 for the latter.

This area should have been opened last year but the adverse weather conditions prevented that.

by Mr. David Briggs, The Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire. He unveiled a plaque dedicating the area to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in honour of Her Diamond Jubilee 2012.

We have just benefited from an Open Day at Eaton Park on the 26th May 2013 which was very successful.
