Committed to influencing change

Committed to influencing change The Norfolk Chamber Board, three local Area Councils and Special Interest Groups, work with members and partners to make a vital difference to Norfolk’s local environment. They also lobby Westminster with the British Chambers of Commerce on key national issues affecting Norfolk.

CHAMBER BOARD The Norfolk Chamber Board is made up of members from across the county and ensures that members’ interests are represented at local, county and national levels. As Directors of the business, they ensure that the Norfolk Chamber continues to drive forward its vision and objectives.

AREA COUNCILS Started in 1896, the three local area councils cover Norfolk with key responsibilities for Norwich, Great Yarmouth and West Norfolk areas. Each council has a representative spread of size and sectors on the council and work closely with the local MPs and local authorities.

TRANSPORT, PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT GROUP This group consists of representatives from across the county with expertise in planning, transport and construction. The group’s remit includes assessing the future development of Norfolk from a business perspective; simplifying the planning process; and liaising with local authorities to ensure the ‘business voice’ is heard.

HAVE YOUR SAY – CONSULTATIONS The Norfolk Chamber network is frequently asked to take part in public consultations, involving regular meetings with MPs and public sector partners. Many more are listed on our website, including the British Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey, respected by the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Bank of England, which enables the voice of Norfolk businesses to influence their decisions.

12 NORFOLK CHAMBER SUPPLEMENT

Norfolk Chamber has identified four key issues which the Chamber network will campaign for over the next three years and work with its partners to achieve. Other issues will of course be covered on an ad hoc basis but these are the ones we feel will have the most impact on Norfolk’s economy i.e. jobs, and the Norfolk business community DEVELOP THE A11/A47 GROWTH CORRIDORS There has been some good progress relating to the improvement of Norfolk’s infrastructure, but more can be done. To help bring economic growth to Norfolk, we will continue to support, lobby and influence for: improvements along the A47, the delivery of the Northern Distributor Road; accessibility to Norwich; and highlight the opportunities along the A11 corridor. Norfolk Chamber will also support the rail improvement campaigns from Norwich and King’s

Lynn to London and services across to Cambridge and the Norfolk branch lines.
