Every runner knows that a fnisher medal weighs more than what the scale shows.
I t’s not just metal and ribbon. I t’s discipline. I t’s perseverance. I t’s months of early mornings, logged miles, and moments of doubt overcome. I t is the physical proof of a conquered challenge.

What many don’t know is that behind some of the world’s most iconic fnish lines is a silent partner that turns that efort into an everlasting memory: Todotrofeo.
With a presence in over 20 countries and involvement in more than 1500 sports events a year, Todotrofeo has established itself as one of the great international benchmarks in the manufacturing of sports

awards. Every year it produces more than 1,500,000 custom medals and over 50,000 custom-made trophies – fgures that refect not just volume, but trust.
From popular local 10K races to large-scale international marathons, the company combines cutting-edge industrial infrastructure, global logistics and a production capacity able to respond to any scale without compromising quality or deadlines. But numbers only tell part of the story.
The true essence of Todotrofeo lies in its creative process. Every project begins with an idea: the spirit of a city, the identity of
a race, the emotion meant to be conveyed upon crossing the fnish line.
I ts in-house design team works hand in hand with race directors to transform concepts into unique pieces. There are no standard templates. There are no generic solutions. Every mold is exclusive. Every detail – from an architectural motif to a cultural pattern – is integrated with technical precision and artistic sensitivity. The result is a piece with its own identity.
Todotrofeo doesn’t limit itself to traditional formats. The company is at the forefront of custom design, developing complex

and interactive concepts that elevate the runner’s experience.
Hinged book-style medals, magnetic or puzzle-like designs, spinning pieces, detachable structures, or multi-material combinations are just a few of their specialties. Added to this are glow-in-the-dark medals, inclusive Braille versions and creations that integrate metal with wood, acrylic, or advanced polymers.
This is all done without losing that premium weight and that characteristic metallic clink that runners associate with authenticity and achievement.
The instant a runner crosses the fnish line and feels the medal drop onto their chest, that object transforms into something permanent. I t is kept. I t is displayed. I t is remembered. That is why, behind every design, there is a responsibility: to measure up to the human efort it represents.
Todotrofeo combines artisanal passion with the production capacity of a global industrial leader. Maintaining that balance is what makes it stand out.
Because in the end, a medal isn’t the end of a race. I t’s the beginning of a story that will be told for years.
Elevate your next event. Let’s design victory together.

The newly rebranded AIMS Children’s Series relaunched globally in 2025 after a post-pandemic hiatus. It carries a powerful vision: of inspiring children worldwide to embrace running, discover the joy of movement and build lifelong healthy habits rooted in active lifestyles and community.
The program encourages ftness, confdence, social bonds and inclusion through sport – while helping to counter modern distractions that can limit physical activity and real-world connections.
Bangladesh’s RUNBANGLA International (RBI) received one of AIMS’s new three-year grants to deliver the series locally, making

it the frst country post-pandemic awarded such support. In 2025, RBI hosted the inaugural event in Dhaka, the nation’s capital.
For 2026 RBI partnered with Sherpur Runners to stage the AIMS Kids Series at Shahid Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Sherpur, a district on Bangladesh’s northern border with Meghalaya, India. The surrounding Garo Hills have long shaped indigenous communities. These groups maintain deep connections and strong communal bonds, which preserve an ancient facet of Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
Indigenous children in Sherpur grow up amid simplicity, closeness to nature, and resilience – playing in open felds, near rivers

and forests, and often assisting with household or farm tasks in tight-knit villages. Yet they face substantial barriers: poverty, land insecurity, limited access to nutrition, healthcare and education, long walks to school, and early dropout to support families.
In this context, the 2026 event attracted hundreds of children aged 1–14 from 13 indigenous communities who competed joyfully in three categories: 100m, 500m and 1000m.
The atmosphere over fowed with emotion. At least 100 Madrasa children participated alongside their parents: their laughter and excitement created an unforgettable energy. Visually impaired children joined the same races, completing them with remarkable

AIMS being the largest body in the world for marathon organisers has started a series of webinars under the banner “AIMS Runvibes”.
The inaugural webinar was held on 17 March 2026, titled “The Future of Marathon Running,” setting the tone for a new knowledge-driven initiative aimed at shaping the evolution of distance running worldwide. This session marked the frst in a structured bi-monthly webinar series that will continue through to the end of the year, refecting AIMS’ commitment to fostering dialogue, innovation, and collaboration across its international network.
The discussion was moderated by James Thie, who brought both athletic insight and professional clarity to the conversation. The panel featured AIMS President Paco Borao and other board members Rut Jiroajvanichakorn, Rachid Ben Meziane and Martha Morales, ofering a rich blend of perspectives drawn from diverse geographies and experiences in organising road races.
The webinar explored critical themes that are shaping the future of marathon running. Among these were shifting participation trends in a post-pandemic environment, the growing role of technology in race organisation and runner engagement, and the increasing emphasis on sustainability, responsible event management and women’s running. Panelists also refected on the

importance of inclusivity, innovation in race formats, and the need to adapt to evolving expectations of both elite and recreational runners.
A key takeaway from the session was the recognition that marathons are platforms for community building, urban engagement, and global connectivity. The role of organisations like AIMS in maintaining standards, supporting race organisers and enabling knowledge exchange was highlighted as more important than ever.
The webinar was streamed live on YouTube, attracting a wide international audience and enabling real-time participation across continents. This accessibility reinforced AIMS’ vision of creating an open, global forum for the running community.
As the frst in a continuing series, the webinar successfully established a forward-looking narrative. I t underscored the need for collective thinking and adaptive strategies to ensure that marathon running remains relevant, resilient, and inspiring in the years ahead.”

determination and embodying the series’ ethos that sport belongs to everyone, barriers notwithstanding.
To promote access, organizers arranged early-morning shuttle buses to transport children from remote villages (some nearly an hour away), accompanied by clan leaders and provided with light snacks. Around 100 children from two prominent Madrasas further diversifed the feld, while many parents attended, turning the stadium into a warm, collective family celebration.
These indigenous children – far less privileged than their urban peers – brought exceptional confdence and enthusiasm, making their participation profoundly meaningful. I t perfectly refected the AIMS Children’s Series values of access, dignity, opportunity, community as the foundation for a healthy, active future through movement.
RBI is deeply grateful to AIMS for enabling this initiative for Bangladesh’s children. We eagerly anticipate next year’s event in a new location, returning with the same spirit and even greater vibrancy to inspire, include and nurture the future generation of runners.

It’s simple, direct and honest; too short for strategy to unfold, yet too long to sprint without consequence. The mile asks runners to commit to a pace, to a moment, to the efort ahead.
In Hudson, New York, that commitment begins on Warren Street.
The Hudson Mile sends runners down one straight mile through the heart of town, starting just above 8th Street and descending toward the river. The course drops roughly 90 feet or 27 metres along the way, creating a fast, fowing route that encourages bold strides and confdent pacing. The
event has earned a reputation as the fastest mile in the Hudson Valley.
Warren Street is the center of Hudson’s creative and historic community. Brick buildings line the road. Antique shops, galleries, and cafés sit side by side along the sidewalks. On race evening, the everyday street transforms into a runway for runners.
Spectators gather along the blocks. Music and conversation drift through the air as runners warm up near the start line.
Then the mile begins.

Email:acmarathon@126.com Web:

The frst steps come quickly, the downhill drawing the feld forward. The pack stretches out as runners settle into the pace they intend to hold. In a mile race, there’s no time to ease into the efort, you’re already in it.
Block by block, Warren Street passes beneath their feet. Cheers echo between buildings. Each stride carries runners closer to the river and closer to the fnish.
The beauty of the Hudson Mile lies in its clarity: one distance, one street, one shared moment between runners and the community around them.
A few minutes after the start, the fnish line comes into view near Promenade Hill Park. The efort peaks, the clock stops, and runners slow to a jog, catching their breath as the Hudson River stretches out just beyond the hill.
For one mile, on one evening, Hudson becomes a place where speed, community, and running meet in the simplest way: a straight road, a fast race, and the shared excitement of chasing the fnish line.

You can feel the pulse of the group, hear footsteps, laughter and cheers – an atmosphere that carries you through the opening kilometres.

The fascinating destination of Flims-Laax-Falera captivates participants and visitors alike

The four routes of 12, 23, 42, and 78 km make the Swissalpine a truly outstanding experience. Further highlights include the natural glacier mills of Alp Mora, the breathtaking views from Cassonsgrat and the striking Segnesboden plateau. Each route surprises with varied terrain and stunning panoramas that linger long after the race. These special moments – the interplay of light and shadow, the sounds of nature and the vastness of the Alps – turn every metre of elevation gain into an unforgettable experience.
Even when legs grow heavy and breathing becomes laboured the sense of community keeps participants moving forward. Friendly volunteers at the aid stations, encouraging words from fellow runners and the energy of the spectators help clear the mind. Everyone is fghting their own battle yet no one is alone on the trail.

Then comes the fnish line – a mix of relief, pride and joy. The fnal metres lead through the idyllic Flims forest before crossing the fnish line. Many linger afterward, sharing impressions, laughing and taking photos.
The Swissalpine is an experience that unites community, immersion in nature and athletic challenge. A day flled with emotion, small adventures and big moments – set in one of Switzerland’s most captivating trail running destinations. The combination of

Scenic loop along promenades with views of the Baltic Sea Swedbank Tallinn Marathon, Relay Marathon, Half, 10K & 5K ES TON
The Swedbank Tallinn Marathon is the largest running event in Estonia, taking place over three days in a truly special setting.
The races start and fnish in Tallinn’s Old Town which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, making the event one of the rare marathons where runners begin and complete their race surrounded by centuries of preserved history.
Every September, thousands of runners from more than 90 countries gather in Estonia’s capital to experience this unique combination of sport, culture and city life.

Getting there is simple. Tallinn is well connected to major European cities, and Tallinn Airport — recently voted Europe’s Most Enjoyable Airport — is only about ten minutes from the city centre. Many runners stay right in the heart of Tallinn, within walking distance of the start and fnish area. This makes race weekend relaxed and convenient: you can walk to the start, enjoy dinner in nearby restaurants and explore the city on foot.
The race begins beside Tall Hermann Tower, one of Estonia’s most important national symbols. Every morning at sunrise the Estonian fag is raised on this historic tower. During marathon weekend this place becomes the heart of the event — where thousands of runners start their journey and later return to celebrate their fnish.
From the start the course takes runners on one scenic loop through Tallinn’s districts. You run past the UNESCO-listed Old Town, along promenades with views of the Baltic Sea and through green parks and modern city streets. The route is fast and comfortable — no cobblestones, just smooth roads and enjoyable running.
Many runners say it’s the scenery which surprises them the most.

“I was pleasantly surprised by how much nature there is in Tallinn. I t was great to see the seaside and so many parks around the city.”
O thers highlight the beauty of the city and the organisation of the race.
“A beautiful Old Town and a well-kept city, the perfect organisation of the event and an interesting route were my favorite parts of the Tallinn Marathon.”

The race is a World Athletics Label event, ensuring international standards and professional organisation. Distances are available for every level of runner, from the marathon and half marathon to the 10K and youth and children’s races.
But what many runners remember most is the atmosphere.
“The Tallinn half-marathon arrangements were superb. The weather and the local people cheering were great. I t made me dream of living and working there.”
With cheering crowds, friendly volunteers and runners from around the world, fnishing beneath Tall Hermann Tower feels like becoming part of Tallinn’s running story.

The Volksbank-MünsterMarathon has for 24 years been known as an event organised by runners for runners.
I t has been voted one of the most popular marathons in Germany with around 12,000 runners from more than 50 nations taking part each year.

Runners enjoy the performances of some 300 artists along the course while being cheered on by more than 100,000 spectators.

The fnish in Münster’s historic city centre becomes a true “party mile”: decorated with fags and a red carpet, it makes every fnisher feel like a winner.
Several race distances make the event attractive for runners of all abilities. Alongside the classic marathon distance of 42.195 km the full course can also be tackled as a relay marathon by teams of four runners, each covering roughly 10 km. This popular relay competition is limited to 140 teams. Since 2022 the Wecker Run over 28 km (two-thirds marathon) has been ofered for runners who are not yet ready for the full distance. The 28 km race can serve as an ideal step towards marathon preparation. Shorter options include a 10 km charity run and a 6 km health run without ofcial timing. Younger runners aged 6 to 13 can take part in the children’s marathon over a distance of 1500 metres.

The Volksbank-Münster-Marathon ofers a balanced mix of urban atmosphere and scenic surroundings. The race starts directly in front of Münster Castle. The opening kilometres lead through the historic city centre, along the green belt known as the Promenade and past Lake Aasee. The course then continues through the districts of Nienberge and through the scenic countryside towards Roxel and Gievenbeck. The fnal kilometres return to the city centre, fnishing at the Prinzipalmarkt between the city’s famous gabled houses.

Are there typical injuries in female runners? Women beneft greatly from running in terms of health, but certain injuries occur somewhat more frequently or to a diferent extent than in men. This is partly due to anatomical and hormonal diferences, such as a wider pelvis and a larger Q-angle in the knees, which afects leg alignment and load distribution.
PatellofemoralPainSyndrome
One of the most common complaints is patellofemoral pain syndrome. This condition causes pain in the area of the kneecap. Due to the altered leg axis, the kneecap can be pulled more strongly to the side, increasing stress on the knee joint.
IliotibialBandSyndrome
Iliotibial band syndrome is also common and is often referred to as “runner’s knee.” In this condition, the tendon band on the outside of the thigh rubs over a bony prominence at the knee. This leads to stabbing pain on the outside of the knee, particularly during longer or more intensive training sessions, when climbing stairs, or after long runs. Weak hip muscles or an imbalance in the lower back often plays a decisive role.
StressFracturesandRED-S
Stress fractures occur comparatively frequently in women. These are small injuries within the bones, most commonly afecting the tibia, the hip, or the metatarsals. Risk factors include increased training load, insufcient recovery, and low bone density. Closely related is Relative Energy Defciency in Sport (RED-S), a condition in which insufcient energy intake can negatively afect hormonal balance and bone health. However, stress fractures can also occur in otherwise healthy women.
Common contributing factors to the injuries mentioned above include incorrect footwear, hard running surfaces, and shortened calf muscles.
Moderate training, targeted strength training for the hips and core, and sufcient recovery are essential for injury prevention. Individually adapted running shoes and conscious training planning, including adequate nutrition and rest, can further reduce the risk of injury and ensure long-term enjoyment of running.

Almaty Marathon is held in Kazakhstan’s largest city, at the foot of the Tian Shan mountains. The surroundings ofer a rare sense of space for an urban race: broad avenues, tree-lined streets and snow-capped peaks shape the backdrop.
In 2026 Almaty Marathon marks its 15th anniversary. Over that time it has grown into the largest running event in Central Asia and into an important platform bringing together sport, wellbeing, urban culture, sustainability initiatives and charity.
Almaty Marathon is organised by the Corporate Fund “Courage to Be First,” which has been developing mass-participation running in Kazakhstan since 2012. In that time the event has grown into an international race that brings together participants from 60
countries. The foundation’s races remain the only events in Kazakhstan included in the AIMS calendar, while their courses are certifed in line with World Athletics standards.
Almaty Marathon is also part of TAN – the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs, which connects races across the Turkic world and creates new opportunities for international running cooperation. Together, these elements have helped establish Almaty Marathon as an important fxture on the region’s running calendar and ofers the chance to discover a new country through running.
What defnes Almaty Marathon most is its setting and atmosphere. On one side are green neighbourhoods, wide boulevards and the rhythm of Kazakhstan’s southern capital. On the other are the mountains,
Stand out race in Central Asia

almost always visible in the distance. Just 30 minutes from the city centre lie Medeu and Shymbulak – two of Almaty’s best-known landmarks. For international runners, the event becomes part of a wider travel experience. For local runners it is a chance to rediscover their own city from a diferent perspective.
Almaty Marathon is also defned by the values behind the event. The foundation continues to build a more open and accessible running environment, while the city’s running community keeps growing through annual races, free open training sessions and Community Almaty Run gatherings. As a result the marathon has become part of everyday life in the city.
Another defning feature of the event is its charitable mission. Part of the registration fees and additional donations support social and medical projects for children with special needs. That is why the Almaty Marathon is remembered not only as a beautiful race beneath the mountains, but as an event where running becomes part of a culture of participation, support and community.

50 years of

How has Japan’s running culture been built? The answer lies in continuous pursuit of what runners seek across diferent eras.
Our company’s journey began in 1975 when we launched Runners, Japan’s frst dedicated running magazine. In the pre-internet era accessing information
about races across Japan was challenging. By centralising race information and handling entries through Runners, we signifcantly improved access to race

information and entry processes that were previously managed independently by each event.
A pivotal moment came with our introduction of the Honolulu Marathon tour. While Japan had world-famous elite races in the 1970s, recreational runners had limited options. The Honolulu Marathon, with its festival-like atmosphere and no time limits, ofered a diferent perspective on marathon running. Our thinking was simple: “If Japan doesn’t have festival-like races, we’ll take runners to Honolulu.”
In collaboration with major travel agencies, we created Japan’s frst Honolulu Marathon tour. As more runners experienced this unique event demand grew for similar races in Japan and helped to shape today’s diverse running culture with a variety of races held nationwide. The media played a crucial role in conveying such “sentiments” to society.
We pioneered chip timing in Japan, revolutionising timing accuracy and enabling larger-scale race organisation. Another signifcant innovation was our “Full Marathon Age-Specifc Rankings,” launched 21 years ago. This system collects marathon data nationwide and ranks runners by single-year age groups, from frst to last place for each age bracket. Runners can check their standings among their age group on Runnet, with top 100 names published in Runners magazine. This system motivates runners to improve their rankings and provides a new competitive element for aging runners who can track their performance within their current age group.
Addressing gender disparity in running –currently 80% male and 20% female – we created the Shibuya-Omotesando Women’s Run. This 10km race features 5,000 women running through Japan’s premier shopping
district, aiming to encourage greater female participation through iconic events and media coverage.
Recent years have seen us focus on the Mt. Fuji Marathon, designed to ofer international visitors a unique racing experience with spectacular views of Mt. Fuji. The December 2025 race attracted about 12,000 registrants, with nearly 70% being international runners.
Beyond the Mt. Fuji Marathon, Japan ofers numerous attractive races, refected in our international runner entry site “RunJapan” growing at over 150% year-on-year. The vision of “International and Japanese runners running together in harmony” is becoming an integral part of Japan’s evolving running culture.
We hope that people around the world will experience Japanese running culture. We are looking forward to many runners crossing borders to come and run in Japanese marathon events.

Every run has a quiet companion

BY N OSHIN S HARMILI

Running is often celebrated as an expression of freedom, strength and determination. Yet every stride has a quiet companion: risk.
Embracing risk in running is not only about facing physical challenges – it is about welcoming uncertainty, vulnerability, and perseverance. Each step carries the possibility of injury, fatigue or failure, but also the promise of growth, discovery, and a stronger version of oneself.
For long-distance runners, risk is woven into every mile. The body is pushed beyond comfort: muscles burn, lungs burn, the mind wrestles with creeping doubt. Some days pain arrives as a sharp whisper – perhaps a twinge in the knee, a persistent ache in
the shin, or the heavy fatigue that makes each step feel like moving through water. Runners learn to listen carefully, distinguishing a feeting discomfort from a signal that demands rest and care. They honor their limits while still daring to test them, fnding that delicate balance between courage and wisdom that turns risk into progress.
Running with risk refects a deeper life philosophy. Whether chasing a marathon fnish line through city streets, an ultramarathon summit on remote trails, or simply the quiet rhythm of a morning run, the choice is the same: step boldly outside the comfort zone. Harsh weather, empty roads, absent support – none of it halts the runner guided by discipline and belief. Whether it’s the humid heat of a Bangladeshi dawn, the freezing

gales of a Scottish ultra, or the crowded, electric energy of a Tokyo marathon, every runner faces the same pivotal decision: stop or keep going. This willingness to move forward despite uncertainty builds profound resilience. Running strengthens not only legs and lungs but also the mind – teaching patience in discomfort, focus amid chaos, and the quiet confdence that comes from proving to yourself you can endure.
Every runner carries a personal story of risk: returning after months sidelined by injury, lacing up again despite lingering fear; running through emotional struggles like grief, burnout, or self-doubt when motivation fades to nothing; or standing at the start line unsure of the outcome, heart pounding with equal parts of excitement
and dread. The courage to begin again, to trust the slow rebuilding process, and to keep moving forward defnes the spirit of running. Risk transforms a simple physical act into a profound journey of self-discovery, where vulnerability becomes strength and setbacks become fuel.
Running with risk is not recklessness; it is purposeful bravery. I t teaches that progress often waits just beyond fear. When a runner accepts the possibility of pain, failure, or struggle they open the door to achievement, inner strength and genuine transformation. Every fnish line crossed – whether in a packed city race or a solitary trail at dawn – is living proof: the greatest victories come from the risks we dare to take.

Staying in your lane isn’t always the easy option

Whether it’s a change of capability caused by injury, a change in circumstances such as losing or switching jobs, a family emergency, or simply changing your mind about where or who you want to be, change can be challenging.
Many would argue that if we’re not changing we’re not moving forward. But unlike planned change, where every variable is meticulously addressed, unforeseen or unwanted change can tip our world upside down and derail our goals, leaving us wondering what on earth just happened.
Finding a good strategy, or the perfect training plan, is a victory in itself. Yet often, when you’re moving in the right direction, hurdles appear out of nowhere. Knowing what you want and being prepared to put in the work to get there feels good, but it’s rarely enough. Building the resilience and adaptability needed to navigate the challenges blocking your path to success is crucial.
American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted as saying: “I t’s not about the destination, it’s the journey.” During a longdistance event, it’s easy to identify with his sentiments. But as you prepare for the start line convincing yourself that it’s all part of the process takes efort.
We may not be able to control unplanned change, but we can prepare ourselves and decide how we respond to it. As runners,
we accept the physical discomfort required to achieve a goal; it’s part of the process. So what if we employed the same tactics to deal with the mental discomfort that comes with change?
Simple strategies built into your daily routine can help you navigate change with more ease. Rather than running the same route every day, try challenging yourself by deviating and fnding new paths. Strike out in a new direction and fnd a diferent way home. Consciously break your timetable. Run or work out earlier or later in the day and see how you can adjust your routine

BY WENDYJONES

to ft around the change. Stay curious. Ask what would happen if…? And then try it. Pushing outside of your comfort zone helps your brain stay agile and adaptable.
On a personal level, when change seems overwhelming, remind yourself of situations where you’ve successfully tackled unexpected changes before. Reframing questions can also help us see things from a more positive perspective. Try asking: ‘How can I make this work?’ rather than ‘Why is this happening to me?’ Invest time in build-
ing strong relationships with friends, family and colleagues too; these can be invaluable if the unexpected happens.
Don’t forget to breathe! For many, breathwork and meditation practices are invaluable coping strategies when uncertainty rears its head, as well as clever ways to improve overall well-being. And most importantly, if you need help — ask! You may not know what’s coming your way, but you know you’ve got this.
