AIMS Children’s Series Thung Song, Thailand
On 17 August 2025 the town of Thung Song in southern Thailand became the proud host of the very frst AIMS Children’s Series event in the country.
With over 800 children taking part the day was flled with joy, energy and unforgettable moments that showcased how running can build not only health and happiness but also teamwork and inclusion.
At the heart of the event was the AIMS Children’s Relay – a fast and fun 5x1km race. Each team was made up of fve members, with at least one female runner required to ensure gender balance and inclusivity. The format encouraged kids to train together, run together and cheer each other on. For many this was their frst experience of racing as part of a team and the sense of unity was clear to see as children sprinted hand-inhand towards the exchange zones.
Running together, inspiring generations
One of the most touching categories introduced in Thung Song was Run with Mom. Here, mothers and children ran sideby-side, hand-in-hand and crossed the fnish line together. The sight of families smiling, laughing and pushing each other forward symbolized what running can mean at its most basic level: connection. Many mothers said it was the frst time they had run with their children and the experience strength-
Bigger race planned for Sherpur
RunBangla is excited to announce our 2nd Annual Bangladesh AIMS Children’s Series – 2026 to be held on 9 January 2026 in Sherpur District.
Our frst event in February 2025 was held in Dhaka with a smaller sister race in Sherpur. It was a great success, but we have much bigger plans for 2026. Sherpur is a beautiful location flled with greenery. With our local partner Sherpur Runners we plan to expand the registration to 600+ children
competing in 3 age groups: 1-4 (100m); 5-8 (500m); 9-12 (1Km).
RunBangla is planning a festive day flled with fun and games and plenty of food and treats for the kids. We also have some surprises that we will announce as we get closer to the race date. Please follow us on Facebook for updates including registration opening date.
Bucket List Ticks Since
ened their bond in a way no ordinary day could.
Inclusivity was a cornerstone of the Thung Song event. More than 30 children in wheelchairs participated, supported by their families and volunteers. The atmosphere was electric as the community rallied around these runners, showing that the fnish line belongs to everyone.
The most emotional moment came when one girl, who had never walked unaided in public, took her frst independent steps in the last 20 metres of the race. Her mother, overwhelmed with joy, said: “I never imagined this day would come. To see her walk on her own, in front of everyone, is a miracle.”
It was a reminder that the AIMS Children’s Series is about more than competition—it’s about life, dignity and hope.
The whole town embraced the event.

Streets flled with music, cheering crowds and colourful shirts as waves of children ran through Thung Song. Local schools, families and community groups all joined in, creating an atmosphere more like a festival than a race. The fnish line became a place of laughter, tears and endless photographs.

The success of AIMS Children’s Series Thung Song is only the beginning. Plans are already in place to expand the initiative nationwide under the title AIMS Children’s Relay: Thailand. With its combination of relay teamwork, family categories and inclusive participation, the model is set to inspire thousands more children across the country.
As the sun set over Thung Song that day, it was clear that this was more than a race. It was a celebration of life, of community and of the next generation of runners who will carry the spirit of AIMS forward.
“Running is often seen as an individual sport, but this AIMS Children’s Series showed that running can be true teamwork.”

25th AIMS World Congress
Tromsø, Norway · June 18–20, 2026
The Midnight Sun Marathon Foundation welcomes all AIMS members to the 25th World Congress of AIMS, June 18–20, 2026. The congress will take place in Tromsø, Norway the same weekend as the Midnight Sun Marathon. We will provide more information on the program, but here are some important things to remember.
At 69N, 350km North of the Arctic Circle, on a small island surrounded by majestic mountains and fords, you will find Tromsø. The city has a population of 80.000, quite small compared to most places, but it is one of the most populated places in the Arctic.
Being inside the Arctic, Tromsø can offer some of the most spectacular natural phenomena. In winter, the Northern Lights dance across the dark sky, and in summer the Midnight Sun creates a special atmosphere. From May 21st to July 22nd the sun never sets, and you can experience 24-hour daylight.
The Midnight Sun Marathon race has been one of the most spectacular running events since it started in 1990. The Marathon starts at 20:30/ 8:30 PM, and most runners will cross the finish line after Midnight – wearing sunglasses. The race offers Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and 5km distances. In 2025 more than 10,000 registered for the event.
Being far away from the rest of Europe one must plan the travel. Tromsø has an international airport with direct flights to the major cities in Northern Europe. Usually we would recommend flying through Copenhagen or Oslo.
Norway is a part of Schengen and most nationalities will have the same rules for travelling to Norway as they have travelling to other countries in the Schengen area.
Please find information about applying for a Visitors Visa at the UDI website. If you are planning to participate please contact Midnight Sun Marathon to get the personal invitation.
The Congress will take place at the Scandic Ishavshotel. Participants will stay at this hotel.
The transfer time from the airport is 15 minutes by bus or taxi. The organiser will arrange this for all participants travelling to Tromsø.
The daytime temperature will probably be 14 – 20° C. At night it will drop even if the sun is up. We will of course send all the participants guidance on how to dress for an Arctic summer.
Please contact us if you have ■ any questions or if you need an invitation letter. E-mail: info@msm.no
We look forward to welcoming you to the Arctic City of Tromsø, Norway
Get your ARCTIC EXPERIENCE and enter for the World Congress of AIMS. Registration will be open from August 2025.

A scenic course through the historic heart of Bangkok
The Thai Sikh Run is one of the oldest and most respected running events in Bangkok, known for pioneering the city’s running culture.
What began decades ago as a 5K and 10K community event has grown into an international race attracting runners from around the world. In recent years the event has expanded to include a challenging 21.1K half marathon as well as a Kids Run, which was introduced three years ago to encourage healthy habits from a young age.
Initially organized to promote fitness and unity within the Thai Sikh community, the event has evolved into a platform for cultural exchange, health awareness and charity. It promotes running and wellness and also raises awareness about the presence and contributions of Sikhs in Thailand.
Runners are treated to a scenic course through the historic heart of Bangkok, pass-
ing iconic landmarks such as Saranrom Park, Sanam Luang, the Grand Palace, the Ministry of Defence, the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine and a unique elevated car-free bridge. One of the race’s most beloved traditions is the unlimited food and drinks served after the finish line, a gesture that reflects the Sikh value of hospitality and generosity.
In preparation for its 30th anniversary in 2026 the Thai Sikh Run continues to inspire runners, build community, and celebrate the vibrant multicultural fabric of Thailand. Rooted in the Sikh principles of seva (selfless service) and langar (community kitchen), the run’s generous post-race feast is an expression of unconditional hospitality to all. The event’s journey from a small community gathering to a major international race mirrors the story of the Sikh community in Thailand, who have a long history of integrating into Thai society while maintaining their unique cultural identity.
By inviting people of all backgrounds to run, share a meal and learn about their heritage, the Thai Sikh Run has become a powerful symbol of unity and a vibrant celebration of Bangkok’s diverse culture. The remarkable journey of Fauja Singh (1911–2025), the world-renowned Sikh centenarian marathon runner, has also long served as a major inspiration for participants, embodying the perseverance and spirit of the event.

It is the Ideal time for the elite to achieve the qualifying standard for international championships (World Championships, Olympic Games...) as there is usually a six-month margin to train for the ofcial championships in summer. Napoli City Half Marathon
Napoli delivers
‘Fastest half marathon in Italy’
Running the Coelmo Napoli City Half Marathon is both a sporting challenge and a memorable experience.
On 22 February 2026 10,000 runners will take part in what is recognised as the fastest half marathon in Italy – where both the men’s and women’s national records have been set.
The course is built for speed. Sixteen of the 21.1 kilometres follow Naples’ coastline, offering flat terrain and long straights. The views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius create an impressive backdrop but the real attraction is performance. Yeman Crippa set the men’s Italian record here in 2022 with 59:26, and Sofiia Yaremchuk
equalled the women’s record in 2024 with 1:08:27. Around 30% of runners have achieved a personal best time in previous editions and the race continues to attract both elite athletes and amateurs aiming for fast times.
The city provides strong support throughout the route. Crowds are enthusiastic, creating a lively atmosphere that helps carry runners through difficult stretches. February conditions are typically mild, with temperatures between 12–15°C, which makes the race reliable for consistent performances.
Napoli
Naples also adds a cultural dimension to the weekend. Known worldwide for its food, the city offers runners excellent opportunities to refuel before and after the race. From pasta to authentic Neapolitan pizza the culinary experience is part of what makes this event stand out.
The timing of the race makes it an ideal early-season test. Positioned ahead of the spring marathon season, it offers athletes a chance to gauge their form, sharpen race strategy and build confidence on a proven fast course.
Taking part in the Coelmo Napoli City Half Marathon means more than completing the distance. It is an efficient, well-organised and high-quality race that combines favourable conditions, a competitive field and a supportive environment. Whether the goal
is a personal best or a solid season opener, Napoli delivers.
The COELMO Napoli City Half Marathon is an internationally recognised event, certified with the World Athletics Label, and the FIDAL Gold Label. Runners can choose from three race formats. The Half Marathon offers a fast, scenic course ideal for personal bests.
The Relay Race, part of the Napoli Running Charity Program, supports local non-profits with entry fees serving as donations. The Family Run & Friends welcomes all ages in a fun, non-competitive walk or run, organised with SOS Sostenitori Ospedale Santobono ETS. All participants receive a t-shirt, medal and refreshments.

It drew in families, younger runners and fans, adding a fun and colourful vibe to the day.
During the pandemic the race showed its resilience. In 2022 it was postponed to May but still went ahead and welcomed over 6500 runners to conquer the freeway. In 2025 it remains one of Taiwan’s most anticipated spring races.
2026 brings exciting new changes: the race will be ofcially named the Nanshan Taipei Freeway Marathon thanks to its new title sponsor, Nanshan Life. And for the frst time the organisers are replacing the classic 10km race with a brand-new 4-person relay. Each runner covers 5 km, combining team spirit and speed over a total distance of 20 km.
The next edition is set for Sunday, 8 March 2026. If you’ve ever dreamed of racing on a real highway, with the city skyline in view and nothing but smooth tarmac ahead, this is your chance. Whether you’re going all-out to beat the 4-hour limit in the full marathon or teaming up with friends for the relay, the Nanshan Taipei Freeway Marathon ofers a unique, adrenaline-pumping adventure you won’t fnd anywhere else. The joy of shared experience
Each spring, when Budapest turns green and blossoms fll the air, thousands of runners gather on Margaret Island for one of the city’s most beloved sporting events: the Telekom Vivicittá Spring Half Marathon.
The race is a celebration of movement, community and the joy of discovering Budapest on foot.
Winding course along the Danube
BY
The event unfolds over two full days, ofering something for everyone. Saturday sets the tone with its festival atmosphere and shorter races: the 3x2 km relay, the 2.4 km run, and the popular 7 km distance. Families, beginners, and those who simply want to experience the
joy of running take part in these challenges and create a vibrant, inclusive community. The island transforms into a colourful hub where music, cheering and spring energy combine, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities.
Sunday is the highlight of the weekend, dedicated to the classic long-distance challenges. At 09.00 the half marathon participants – experienced athletes, enthusiastic frst-timers and even relay teams of two or three – line up on the start line. The fat, AIMS-certifed course also features a 10 km race, attracting runners who prefer a shorter but equally scenic challenge. The energy is electric as the wave of participants leaves Margaret Island, heading into the heart of Budapest.
The course winds along the banks of the Danube, crossing bridges and passing the majestic Parliament building, with panoramic views of Buda Castle and the historic cityscape. At specially designed
“Danube Mirror” photo points runners are captured mid-stride against the refections of Budapest’s landmarks.
Refreshment stations and cheering spectators keep spirits high. The route showcases both the city’s architectural treasures and its welcoming atmosphere, reminding runners that they are part of something greater than a race.
As the kilometres pass fatigue builds but the support and beauty of Budapest provide motivation. Finally, after 21.0975 kilometres, runners return to Margaret Island where the fnish line and a wave of cheering await. Crossing it, each fnisher receives a uniquely designed medal – a keepsake symbolising efort, achievement and the joy of shared experience.
The celebrations continue with spa passes, goodie bags, and ofcial race photos, allowing participants to prolong the festive spirit. For many, the Telekom Vivicittá becomes a cherished tradition, a spring highlight that
combines sport, culture and community.
The Telekom Vivicittá Spring Half Marathon is a true festival of running, embracing the message of vitality and the timeless spirit of “long live the city, long live running.”

Unlike any other
“Because I can” is reason enough to run
Stepping onto the starting line of the ASICS Austrian Women’s Run is an experience unlike any other. It is one of the world’s largest women-only races.
This year’s event in May brought nearly 29,000 runners together to take on the 5km, 10km, and Nordic Walking race. For any serious runner the fact that both the 5km and 10km distances are AIMS-certifed is a huge plus, guaranteeing a legitimate, fast course.
The 10km race holds the title of the biggest 10km in all of Austria.
The start is an inspiring mosaic of runners from more than 90 nations, ranging from beginners to advanced and elite athletes, all united by sisterhood and a passion for running. The atmosphere is nothing short of electric; it gives goose bumps to everyone witnessing the start.
Every participant runs for a diferent reason: some to set their PBs, some for fun, and others for the experience. When it comes to PBs this year was especially memorable as two national records fell: the Austrian and Belgian 5km women’s records were both broken. Of the 42 elite athletes 19 ran new PBs.
The two-day event is packed with activities. The massive festival site is the central hub, where participants can pick up their race bib, the exclusive ASICS T-shirt and a goodie bag flled with cool gifts. The entire weekend ofers a variety of sports workshops, live music, expert interviews and a lot of other activities. A signifcant portion of the race takes place on the Prater Hauptallee, a World Athletics Heritage site lined with beautiful chestnut trees, adding a scenic touch to the challenge. Each year, the run adopts a dedicated motto, and this year’s was “’cause I can,” a phrase that perfectly encapsulates the individual determination of every woman and girl participating. This motto resonated deeply with each runner’s personal motivation, whether it’s to fnish their frst race, have fun or set a new personal record.
For any female runner looking for a powerful and supportive atmosphere, the ASICS Austrian Women’s Run is a must run event in 2026!

Austrian Women’s Run over the
Preparing for success
How health, time and patience matter on the road to your next race
BY D R . M ED M ARGR I T L O CK
In October many runners start to plan their running schedule for the following year. Many people are experienced in long-distance running but others may be starting their journey.
One of the frst questions everybody should ask themselves when contemplating running long distances should be: Am I healthy enough to perform all the training needed for a satisfying result?
Medical check before training
No matter how old you are, every runner should undergo a physical examination with a doctor of sports medicine in advance of their winter training. Runners should be healthy enough to ensure safe and successful training as well as the competition itself.
Essential examinations for runners
A thorough medical history and physical examination should include a resting ECG and a stress ECG, usually on a bike or
treadmill. Also check lung function, blood values and, if needed, perform spiroergometry. Endurance athletes in particular can be misled by the feeling “I’m ft.” Some heart conditions or circulatory problems show no symptoms at frst and only become apparent under stress. Undetected infections or blood pressure issues may also show up during the check-up. The physical examination should include a very detailed check of feet, legs, hips and spine as well as muscular balance and fexibility. This helps the runner to detect pitfalls very early and work on any defciencies during the winter.
Training, time commitment and recovery
The second question is about the amount of time the runner is willing to commit: if you plan to run a marathon you need a full year of preparation. Six months before the actual race you should be able to run 60 minutes without a break. Training during the winter months should include 3–4 sessions a week. To stay healthy and free of injuries, strength
and fexibility should be part of your training throughout the whole year. This helps to ensure an efcient running technique as well as minimizing the forces on joints, cartilage, tendons, and muscles. Finally, if you are caught by an infection, give yourself the time to recover properly before getting back into your running shoes. In the end, the fnish line as well as a beautiful medal will be yours – together with a big smile.
