since the 1400's, Haiti has been seen as a threat to the western world.
In 1804, Haiti became the second most powerful country in the Western Hemisphere, just 28 years after the establishment of America.
The US refused to recognize Haiti’s Independence until 1862.
Spain, France, and the United States all served as major blockades to the Haitian people, with the former two imposing brutal colonial rule prior to 1804, and the latter issuing sanctions over the next couple hundred years including in the 2000's.
It is important to understand the ways in which Haiti has been deliberately harmed.
Below are resources including our video series on Haiti to learn about the history on western intervention in Haiti.
