Committed to Being a Cattle Farmer

I said it when I got on the plane to Iowa,” said Alice Rose Rooke a student at Vincent Massey School in Brandon. “And I said it when I got off the plane when I came home. I want to be a cattle farmer.” She did acknowledge that the trip to Des Moines, Iowa for the 2016 World Food Prize Global Youth Institute held in October did make her aware of other opportunities that may detour her from the end goal but everything will be done with the end goal in mind. The determination is unusual for a Grade 10 student but Rooke has been on the course for a while. Last year while in Grade 9 she saw an advertisement for the contest, that offered a trip to the World Food Day on the matter of food security in an effort to combat global hunger. “The contest was for Grade 11 and 12’s primarily, but when I saw it in the Beef Magazine I thought it was worth a try and when I was selected for an interview I was surprised that I was one
