Dozens of Horses and Riders Turn Out for Gymkhana in the Park Horse and riders from the region came out for a fun Gymkhana at the Richer Dawson Trail Park in late September making the event a total success. The Boot Scootin’ Boogie Gymkhana was

put together by Karla Badhe and with the help of family and friends. She is hinting towards creating an annual spring event to match up with this fall’s success. The Richer Community

Club is pleased that this could be another annual event in the park and encourages other groups in the area to use the facilities.

The Dawson Trail Museum wishes to thank all the volunteers who donated their time at organizing and working at the Fall Supper.

We also thank all our sponsors for their generous donations, with their support it assured the success of this fundraiser. The 50/50 tickets were sold out and we congratulate Gilbert Gagnon winner of the $3,000 ticket draw.

Searching for Seniors Seine River Services for Seniors Inc. is an organisation designed to provide assistance for seniors who want to live more independently.

We are currently in search of seniors who are retired and who would like to offer their time in helping other seniors in need.

2020 Richer Community Club Calendars The Richer Community Club is gathering information for the 2020 community calendars. Local businesses will be listed and a different photo displayed for each month. Families have the option of listing their birthdays, anniversaries and memorials. If you want to have this information listed, please email the names as you would like them to appear on the calendar, along with the date and category (B,A, or M). For example: John Smith Feb 15, B; John and Jill Smith Sept 23, A. The information can be emailed to richercalendars@hotmail.com or phone Sarah at 204-422-6311.

If you had the information listed last year you will be contacted to see if there are any changes - so no need to resend.

Advertising spaces are once again only $100 a block. The calendar is a great way for local businesses and organizations to advertise because their ad is displayed year round. Profits made through advertising will go towards improvements to our playground area in Richer Dawson Trail Park.

We are in need of some local photos for the calendar. Photos can be from events, nature or other activities. Email your photos to richercalendars@hotmail. com with a caption describing the photo.

Richer Fireside Youth...

The Making of Friendships Our last Youth Wiener Roast was held on Friday Sept. 6.

Youth enjoyed a wonderful summer to sit by the fireside with parents and friends.

Ten years ago I started the Community Youth program in Richer. Five years ago I was given the opportunity to continue teaching the Youth in the Richer School. One of my goals was to let kids know they were loved and to be able to hang out in a safe place. More importantly, that they would know Jesus Christ loved them unconditionally, that He understood them, and they could learn more about Him through the Bible based lessons I taught.

Lastly, I wanted them to know that friendship is a gift and to

have friends who care about you will impact your life. And then it happened, I just realized that the entire Youth group are friends who really care about each other. How do I know this?

Lately, when someone doesn’t show up, whether guy or girl, someone comes to ask me where they are and if they’re coming. And you know what?

I find myself missing them so much in between Youth nights that I realized that these kids are my friends too.

Friday Sept. 27 was Youth Start Up and Registration.

Parents of youth ages 12-17 are asked to register their Youth once for the year during the month of October.

Next Youth: Friday Oct. 4 and

Friday Oct 18 from 7-9 pm in the Richer School gymnasium.

School Library Gets Boost Richer School in Richer participated in the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s Adopt a School program. This fundraising initiative connects Indigospirit Oakville with Richer School and the surrounding community to help provide support for much-needed additional library resources.

Richer school had an opportunity to upgrade its library collection and enrich the lives and education of its students.

Each school’s unique registry will consisted of 50 books for supporters to shop during the campaign. When a book is purchased from a school’s registry, Indigo will double the impact of each customer’s donation by providing an additional copy of that book to the school, enabling even more children and youth to benefit.

The Dawson Trail Dispatch editor and Richer resident Dan Guetre had the press release come across his desk recently and decided to post on a few local social media sites hoping to start the campaign rolling. The response was amazing, all 50 books were sponsored by local residents within a week or so, so now the Richer School library will receive all 50 books plus an additional copy of each for their library!

On top of this, with days left in the campaign, the Oakville Ontario store is also collecting donations for the school and should be informing them just after October 6 campaign end.

Ste. Anne Fall Supper - On Sunday, October 6 from 3 - 7 pm, at the Ste. Anne Collegiate’s gymnasium, 197 St. Alphonse.

Cost $15 per person, 13 years old and over, $5 per child from 5 - 12 years, under 4 is free. Traditional menu with turkey

and stuffing, meat balls, ham, mashed potatoes, homemade bread and pies, and much more. Take-out meals available. A silent auction and all profits will go towards the Parish’s good works, including Kateri Centre. Guests are invited to contribute to the food bank by bringing non-perishable foods.

The Richer Community Club monthly meeting is Wednesday, October 9, 7:30 pm at the LUD Community Hall.

The Dawson Trail Museum committee will hold their monthly meeting on October 15th at 1pm at the LUD Hall.

On October 10th the Dawson Trail Museum will hold their annual AGM meeting at the Museum at 1 pm. It is time to renew your membership as well, please come with family

and friends for updates on current projects and upcoming events, don’t forget to bring a tin for the bin. We are looking for people who would like to give their time and talent for a worthy cause. Come meet people, share your ideas and make new friends. This year we are looking for a Vice President for a three year term.

Recycling can also be dropped off in the recycling shed located in the Richer Husky parking lot at your convenience.

Young at Heart Dinner and Dance – On Saturday, October 19 from 5 – 11 pm at the Young at Heart hall monthly Dinner & Dance. Cash bar at 5 pm, supper at 6 pm followed by Dance.

Monday Night Bingos - To raise funds for Stacey Pchajek Memorial Foundation Inc. The foundation provides scholarships, bursaries and prizes to students graduating grades 8 and 12.

From The Pastor’s Desk...

Opportunity for Reflection and Growth

By Pastor Ben Funk September was a busy month at our church. Significant preparation for the Fall programs that needed to take place, and being part of the “Community Picnic” in the park. Even though this event was sponsored by “Richer Fellowship Church” it was a public event; it was not private. The “Community Picnic” was a wonderful time, as we all enjoy two different bands that entertained all that were in attendance. The Barbeques were in full use as we prepared the picnic items of choice. All of us cooking and eating together. A good way to get to know your neighbour and connecting with them.

This month we also began a new sermon series “Restoring and Reconstructing” from the book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament.

We will be connecting with Nehemiah’s spiritual, emotional, and physical strategies and see how they apply to our lives today. You are invited to join us each Sunday at 10:30 am for a time of worship, reflection, connection with people from our community. We are also offering an “Adult Teen Challenge” course “Concerned Person’s Group” which speaks into each of our lives who have a person with substance abuse addictions in their lives. It is concerned with the care giver rather than with the addicted one. We are concerned that the “Care Giver” has significant needs and we understand that they to matter and are in need of empowerment and encouragement. A family day and community picnic in the park was hosted by the Richer Fellowship Church in mid-September. It included live music by Jake Brakes and Small Town Limits.

Richer Fire Department News

As the cooler temperatures are approaching all of us at the Richer Fire Dept would like to remind all residents of the RM to insure there heating sources are checked for safe operation.

If you are heating with a wood stove insure your chimney is clean and clear of obstruction.

Check the burn box for and signs of damage or wear. If you see anything that looks out of place call a professional to inspect.

For space heaters check the cords for damage and insure all

safety features are operating as designed. Do not take chance with worn or damaged heaters. They are a leading cause of house fires. Throw away and heaters that have damage or do not work as designed.

Furnace filters should be

checked to insure they are clean and that the furnace operates as intended. If you have a gas furnace insure you intake and exhaust are clean and obstruction free.

Last but definitely not least test your smoke detector. This simple devise can and does save lives.

Taking a minute out of your day can make the difference between escaping a fire or not. A proper working smoke detector is your first warning that you may have to evacuate. If you do not have a evacuation plan in place for your family now is also a good time to draft one. Examples can be found online to follow. Having a plan is the best way to insure your family’s safety during a fire.
