Remembering Our Fallen Neighbours
A new feature will be completed soon at the Dawson Trail Park entrance pergola as a permanent veterans’ memorial takes shape. Volunteers are busy installing the elements, including a flag and pole, a bronze plaque and an exhibit that lists those from the area who served and did not return. While we are not hosting an official Remembrance Day service this year, the community may look into it for future years. Feel free to visit the display this November. It will leave you with a somber feeling as you see the last names of families still
recognized in the area and some last names where the families have disappeared from our contemporary community. The Richer Community Club would like to thank our volunteers (individuals and businesses) who worked hard to install the elements, the Steinbach Legion and Veterans Canada for their financial contributions. Additionally, thanks to our group of local veterans who consulted on the final design of this important display, their input was appreciated and respected.

The Ladder By Pastor Ben Funk
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were unsure why a ladder was used in a certain way? First-of-all, a ladder is a vertical or inclined set of rungs or steps used for climbing up or down something. You may say to yourself, “I know what a ladder is”! Now that we have established that we know what a ladder is, let’s dive deeper into the concept of ladders. Ladders have been used for centuries to reach high places, from changing light bulbs to fixing roofs, etc. They come in various shapes and sizes, from small step ladders to tall extension ladders. It is important to use the right ladder for the job to ensure safety and efficiency. I observed one day in someone’s yard that there was a ladder placed against a tree with only one leg of the ladder on the ground. Curious I thought, who would be brave enough to climb that ladder to do what they were thinking of doing. Surely I thought, that ladder will either slide on top or it will twist in the bottom because it was resting only on one leg. As we know that a ladder is a tool used for climbing up or down. This one in particular looked precarious to say the least. Allow me to redirect. I am also thinking about a ladder that was properly placed on the ground and reach up to a unique place. So, as we are talking about ladders, I am reminded of a ladder in the Bible that is referred to as Jacob’s Ladder (Genesis 28). Jacob’s Ladder is a ladder that is featured in his dream that leads to heaven. You see, he was on a journey and he had stopped for the night, he was tiered, he chose a stone for a pillow, and fell asleep. In this dream he saw this ladder (stairway) that rested on the earth and its top reached to heaven (This ladder was properly placed, I might add). There were angels of God ascending and descending on that ladder. On top of that ladder the Lord God Yahweh was standing. It was there that Jacob received a pronouncement that would shape the rest of his life and his descendants. This ladder served as a connection or line of communication with God. Allow me to ask this question: Have you ever had a special dream that shaped the way you thought about life or circumstances in your life? These ladders in life are a reminder that there is a Diving being that we know as God, Jesus Christ our Saviour.
As in Jacob’s life, this God is interested in my life. He is yearning to be our Saviour and our Friend with whom we can have conversation at anytime and about anything. I would invite you to consider that opportunity for your life. The Richer Crib Club held their regular tournament on Wednesday, October 11 with almost a full house. Our winners for the evening were Wally Adair in first place, Mike Pelletier in second place and Ray Burnell taking third place. Yours truly, Claire Logan got the dimes for fourth place while Vivianne Laurin took the Booby prize. Lucky Wally Adair also won the 50/50. Our next regular tournament was on Tuesday, October 24 and we really had a full house with seven full tables! We had a lot of new people and many of them are on the winners’ list. Coming in first was Bu Bird, one of the new members, and in second was another new member, Mimi Smith. Third was won by Laurel Hager while Ida Chenier took the dimes for fourth place. Cornie Klassen got the booby prize and Laurel Hager also won the 50/50. Congratulations to all our winners and welcome to all our new members! Our next tournament is on Tuesday, November 7 at 7 pm in the Young at Hearts Hall. Entry fee is still only $5, no partner required, and coffee and snacks are always free, so come on down and join us!

Dawson Trail Museum Celebrating Our Past.
Museum Tying Up 2023 Renos
Right on Renovations and Constructions are still at work with the basement project. The 11 stone piers were reinforced with forms and the concrete was poured on October 5. The forms were removed on October 29 to display a majestic form of strength. The window openings will then be properly sealed. We shall have photos of complete project for next month’s news. Thanks to everyone who attended the Annual AGM meeting October 14th at 1 pm at the museum. We welcome two new members this year which names are underlined. A group photo will be included next month, as one member was unable to attend. Here are the names of the entire committee members: President, Yvonne Fontaine Godard, Vice President, Travis Cayer, Treasurer, Sandra Brumwell, Secretary, Lorna Annell, Councillor, Melanie Gamache, Councillor, Dan Guetre, Councillor, Yolande Blair. Thank you to the members who renewed their position. Gifts were distributed to volunteers after the meeting, along with door prizes, followed by a Wine & Cheese. Congratulations to the $3,000 prize winner of the 50/50 ticket, Silvie Kozak of Wpg. Thank you, to all who purchased tickets during the summer, your support is most appreciated. We are all winners as all money go towards the museum renovations.

New Ice Rink “Look” Scheduled for Completion Beginning of December
The next step for the ice rink is to install the new board system which is scheduled to leave the manufacturing plant on November 27. The hope is to have them all installed and the footing backfilled by the beginning of December. In the meantime, a new centre ice in-ice display is being created to finish the look of the revamped outdoor community rink. The Richer community Club would like to thank BOSS Q Construction (Bob Laurin) for the hard work he and his crew has been putting in. Additionally, thanks also goes to Premier Tech Horticulture for stepping up picking up the tab for the new ice rink artwork. A reminder to the users of the rink is to please go out of your way and thank the ice making crew for their past hard work on creating a winter wonderland in the park and for the patience they have had with out board of directors as we get the new rink boards set up for this season.
