The Dawson Trail Museum recently hosted the La Fédération des aînés franco-manitobains on October 22. A tour bus of seniors visited the museum as part of its “Cultural - historical tour & dinner show - On the Seine together!” excursion. The group promoted the event as an opportunity to rediscover the villages, artists and artisans and historic sites of the EAST Region and brought almost 75 visitors to the community.

“The museum welcomes all groups that have an interest in learning more about artifacts as well as the way of life our ancestors lived,” explained Yvonne Godard with the museum. “In the past few years The Pink Ivy was associated with the Seniors Association that travels across Canada during the summer time. The bus tour was scheduled to stop in at The Pink Ivy for lunch which only 30 people could sit in the tea room, as the second half of the group toured the museum and switched after their lunch. We received approximately three bus tours a year. Unfortunately The Pink Ivy has closed its doors.”

“We also give tours to the Richer school children which seems to be very interested in learning more about the way their grandparents lived. Not all school children experience the knowledge of grandparents,” continued Yvonne. “There was mention that the Richer Museum was the best tour the school had during the year. Yvonne led a presentation to the group explaining in depth the culture, history and detailed what the museum does for the community.

“When I address a group no matter what age I feel the importance of keeping their memories and way of life of our ancestors alive,” said Yvonne. “We too, will be leaving our legacy after we pass. What we will leave our children and grandchildren will describe who we are.”

Paradise Squares Dance Club has begun their new season at the Paradise Village Rec. Hall. Modern Square Dancing is fun and a great social activity. Dancing is Tuesday evenings from 7 – 9:30 pm. Couples and singles are welcome. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

It’s this time of the year the Dawson Trail Museum is closed for the winter season. The museum committee would like to thank everyone for their support during the year. Anyone who has an interest in knowing more about the history of this area or has time to give towards organizing or helping with fund raising we would like to meet you. Our next year project is giving the façade a face lift including the Bell Tower depending on funds availability. The Dawson Trail Museum next meeting is on Monday, November 14 at 1 pm at the LUD Hall. Hope to see you there.

Archery Club Season Windup The Mocking Jay Archers of Richer held their 2016 season wind-up on Saturday, October 22nd, with an hour of shooting at D and G Archery in Giroux, followed by a potluck supper at the home of president Sarah Belisle.

Following a great dinner, plaques of acknowledgement were handed out to members who were successful in winning the various competitions. The Mockingjay Archers Plaque was won by Robert Law with 36 points, while the Youth plaque went to Wade Law with 18 points. The Burnell’s Food Plus plaque went to Norm Burnell with 35 points, and the Youth plaque was also won by Wade Law with 5 points. A No Name plaque was won by Norm Burnell with 26 points and the Youth went to Sabrina Burnell with 12 points.

Most points overall plaque was again won by Norm Burnell with 85 points, while the Youth plaque went to Wade Law with 29 points.

Congratulations to the Burnell and Law families, who swept the honours for 2016!

SEINE RIVER SERVICES FOR SENIORS The members of the board of administration for Seine River Services for Seniors are inviting you to donate your slightly used mobility aids to help the elderly who are in need of mobility assistance.

Equipment such as rolling walkers, standard walkers, crutches, canes, wheelchairs and bath chairs will help give our seniors a little extra stability when it is required. It is imperative that the needs of our seniors be met. For more information, please call the Resource coordinator, Julie Rowan at 204424-5285.

Richer Fireside Youth

Running a Youth program in Richer gives opportunity for teens in the community to play sports while learning that true sportsmanship means being a team player and having a winning attitude. The Jets beating the Leafs was a great inspiration to our floor hockey game and helped gear up the Youth for “Hot Chocolate and Hockey” coming up this winter at the park.

Youth will meet on Fri. Nov.4 (Pizza Night) and Fri. Nov. 18 from

7-9 pm at the Richer School Gym. All youth ages 12-17 are welcome.

We would like to thank those that attended our AGM on October 13 at the Dawson Trail Museum. It has been one full year since the church began its transition to a museum.

We had two open houses this summer, one in June with a free BBQ to all and one during the Rodeo weekend. We had visitors from across Canada, England, Ukraine, France, USA as well as residents

It will also be part of many conversations in the next couple of months until the winter stories begin to form.

November is the month when we remember the ultimate sacrifice that many have made for the freedom we enjoy today. Many thanks is appropriate. There is also one who entered our world to give the ultimate sacrifice to deliver humanity the ultimate eternal plan for freedom. This one is Jesus who reminds us that discipleship requires sacrifice. We, like Jesus, must sacrifice ourselves for the sake of God and His gospel. The question is, what have we given up in order to follow Christ? The challenges are many to be a Christian today. Each of us is being called upon to remain faithful. Each reader is invited to come to visit God’s local church at Richer Fellowship Church, 50 Southeast Drive and experience the unique fellowship with one another and God our Savior Jesus Christ. Our service times are Sunday 10:30 am.

By the end of July we completed this year’s project of reconnecting the water to the building, renovating the bathroom to provide wheelchair access and building an outdoor ramp. We are now ready to open our doors for gatherings, seminars, classes and as a meeting place. Our next year’s project is painting the bell tower and the facade of the building along with repairing the upstairs ceiling and wall due to water damage.
