Rink Roof Moving Forward The project to cover the outdoor rink is moving along with the foundation ready to be dropped in.

Almost 500,000 pounds of concrete blocks will be set in the ground fastened together with steel plates.

Once this is complete, the Richer Community Club can start erecting the steel trusses.

Richer to Host New Festival in Spring to Celebrate Province and Park Milestones

On April 24, 25 and 26 the Dawson Trail Park will be the place to be as a new festival celebrating Manitoba’s 150th Birthday and the Dawson Trail Park 50th Anniversary will focus on the culture and heritage of the original settlers of the area. Le Rendezvous 2020 will welcome everyone who would like to check out some great MÊtis, Francophone and First Nations entertainment and food. The kickoff on Friday is the welcoming of the 2020 Red River Expedition Ride into the community around noon followed by music and food. More information will be available as the menu is finalized and the entertainers are booked. Guests can expect entertainment, activities and food to be at a minimal cost, even free in some cases! CALENDAR! The Dawson Trail Museum committee will hold their monthly meeting on March 9 at 1 pm at the LUD Hall.

The Richer Community Club monthly meeting is Wednesday, March 11, 7:30 pm at the LUD Community Hall.

Monday Night Bingos - To raise funds for Stacey Pchajek Memorial Foundation Inc. The foundation provides scholarships, bursaries and prizes to students graduating grades 8 and 12. The Dawson Trail Museum will hold a rummage sale starting late May through out the summer. We will accept books, movies and Cd’s. If you can part with those items and are willing to donate them towards our fund raiser please give me a call at 204 422 9369. All proceeds go towards museum renovations.

Crib News

Richer Crib Club met on February 4th and 18th, and we had great turnouts both evenings!

Our winner on February 4th was Cornie Klassen, with Laura West coming in second and Norm Burnell taking 3rd place. Tracy Bell got the Booby prize and drew Claude Caron’s ticket for the 50/50. On the 18th, Melody Olynek won first place, with Glen West winning second place. Rick Betts won third, and Rochelle Anderson took the Booby prize.

Wayne Johannesson won the 50/50. Our next tournaments are March 3rd, 17th and 31st, entry fees are $5, no partner required, and coffee and snacks are always free. Come out and join us for a fun evening of crib!

Firewood Stocked Up for Park

A group of volunteers created a caravan of pickups and a trailer after cutting firewood to be used at the large fire pit or one of the many small fire pit grills in the park.

Seed

February is usual a month when we are in midwinter and those activities that entertain us or occupy our time. Festival De Voyageur is one of those celebrations that bring both entertainment and reflection in time past. Others enjoy their time in the silence of the outback of the Sandilands woods to enjoy some cross country skiing. This also affords hearing sounds from nature that has stayed back from going south where the temperatures are much less hostile.

Some of us who are not well adjusted to enjoy the wintery outdoors. We find ourselves in preparatory mode for soon coming spring and summer.

The other day I went into a local store and notice a large rack of a variety of vegetable seeds. It was unexpected, because we are still in mid-winter and winter mode. However, it was met with both surprise and delight. Surprise, we are still surrounded by snow and cold. Delight, an early indication that someone has an early anticipation of warmer times just around the corner. Now, the seed on the rack will be selected according to desired outcomes in the choice garden. Seed is a fascinating creation.

The reproductive DNA that is contained in the seed is a marvel. The seed contains all of the DNA required to grow the whole plant or tree.

In the same way the seed of salvation, that enters the human being, upon request from the human being. When we ask Jesus to come into our lives, a salvation seed is placed within us. That seed has all of what God is in it to develop a God life in us.

I am not a biologist, and therefore do not actually understand how that all works. What I do know is, when I put a certain seed into the ground I am anticipating the plant that is labeled on the package to grow from that seed. The same holds of the God seed in us. May I invite you to come and enjoy the garden of the God life available to all.

At Richer Fellowship we regularly talk about this God Seed and its potential. We invite you to come and visit us and enjoy fellowship. We meet Sundays at 10:30am and Wednesday at 7pm.

Seine River Services for Seniors Inc. is an organisation designed to provide assistance for seniors who want to live more independently.

We are currently in search of volunteers who would love to help seniors with transportation, cooking, cleaning and friendly visits.

Richer Fireside Youth...

Bold as Lions!

Every year missionaries from all over the country participate in MissionFest held at Church of the Rock. This is a wonderful opportunity to support local and overseas missions by attending sessions and visiting booths that promote the various Bible Schools across Canada.

On Feb. 7, as part of MissionFest 2020, we took the Youth to see Bold as Lions, a husband and wife Christian Pop duo. It was a great evening and wonderful to expose the Youth to what God is doing around the world. Missionary Jamie Saint, grandson to Nate Saint one of the 4 missionaries who was murdered by the Aucas in the 1950’s, gave a powerful message. Saint shared how the widows brought the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Aucas and the man that murdered Nate Saint found forgiveness from the families, becoming Jamie’s “adopted Grandpa.” It is this message of hope that proves God’s love reaches even into the darkest of hearts.

Ste. Anne Councillor Part of Rescue Fundraiser

This summer, one of the RM of Ste. Anne municipal councillor’s will be one of six individuals deliberately stranded on a remote island with nothing but her cell phone.

On June 11, RM of Ste. Anne Councillor, Sarah Normandeau, along with a handful of other individuals will be dropped off on an island somewhere in Manitoba as part of a unique fundraiser called Rescue on the Island for the STARS rescue team. The goal of the event is significant funds for the organization before they can be rescued.

STARS is a charitable organization that cares for and transports critically ill and injured patients, Lemay added. STARS currently average 6 missions per day across western Canada.

Each member of the group fundraising is challenged to raise $100,000 by collecting pledges through phone calls from the island to family and friends.

When the group is not trying to raise funds to get off the island, they will be kept busy with various challenges including shelter building and medical challenges including CPR. Money raised from the event will go towards building a hanger for the province’s STARS helicopter.
