Canada Day Program Coming Together for Larger Event!

The Richer Recreation Canada Day sub-Committee is working hard at creating a larger event this year. According to Dan Guetre, chair of the subcommittee, “we are spending an additional $2,000 on fireworks above what we did last year.” He noted that the event will again start at the Dawson Trail Museum in the early afternoon and move over to the park at around 4 pm.

“We are looking at hosting live music, our annual BBQ, hayrides, face painting, balloon creation, free Canada Day cake, and free popcorn,” he stated, “plus a matinee family movie in the park and multiple bouncy castles.”

He added that there will be gift bags for kids and possibly a mini old style carnival.

Similar to last year, people are invited to help out raise the teepees in the park.

Groups like the Richer Métis local and both the Richer Fellowship Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Brethren Church of Richer have also jumping in to make the day a success.

“We may also have a search and rescue organization coming out with some drones and other equipment that is sure to entice both kids and adults,” Guetre added.

The Richer Fire Department

will most likely be on site with their obstacle course that anyone can jump in and test their endurance.

More details to come. Watch for posters and the Richer Community Club Facebook page.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT

The server at the local restaurant wore a shirt with the message, ‘Live in the Moment.’ It was a great reminder for me that I should be fully there in the moments of my life. I was reminded of our beautiful foster daughter, who had a hereditary illness which affected her cognitive ability at age 3. Our girl always lived in the moment. She would watch leaves wave and laugh. She laughed when I would take her for a stroller ride. I’ve never seen a kid that laughed as much as she did. We miss her since she passed away at age 10 from this disease. Have you ever noticed how kids will be so focused on the ‘Next Event’ that they forget to fully experience the moment? Adults do that too. While enjoying a great meal their whole conversation centers on the meal that they are going to have at the Keg. Meanwhile they miss savoring their present meal in the moment.

Dawson Trail Museum

The museum Spring Tea was a success again this year. Thanks goes out to all the volunteers and sponsors Over 120 guests attended the tea celebration and we thank them for their support. The fashion show by Linda Lansard was enjoyed by all. We especially want to thank the Richer grade 8 students who stepped up to serve the guests. They were most appreciated by all. Great job everyone. The gift shop grand opening was enjoyed by all with a wide range of selection. Thanks goes out to Laurel Hager for her expertise. All money raised goes towards the museum renovations. The museum renovations are 90% complete. Next year we are looking at upgrading the flooring throughout the building.

I agree that it’s great advice that we live in the moment. But there’s another dimension that will enrich the moments. It’s when we remember that we were created by God to bring Him glory with our lives. Apostle Paul reminds his friends in Corinth, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” God created us so that we should bring praise and glory to him. The shorter catechism poses the question, ‘What is the chief aim of man?’ And the answer is to “To glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” So enjoy your moments as you glorify God.

Allan Dueck is the Pastor at the Richer Fellowship Church.
