Richer Gets Quiet Visit from Coast to Coast Riders While it is not unique to see horses and riders strolling through Richer, these two put a bit of a spin on it. Katie and Jewel Keca are riding their horses across Canada raising money and awareness for Lions Foundation Canada Dog Guides. They set out from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. After a short break at the Dawson Trail Park (May 18), the two set off again down the Dawson towards Ste. Anne. According to their Facebook blog, the two have crossed the border into Saskatchewan. MLA of Dawson Trail, Bob Lagasse: Motives behind the man

Bob and his wife Andrea Lagasse spoke boldly about their faith at the Richer School on Friday May 10. Bob shared how God put into his heart to be a politician and Bob decided the only way he could effectively advocate for the vulnerable in society would be to become a politician. Bob had already volunteered at a homeless shelter and he and Andrea had taken foster children into their home. Bob quoted his life verses from the book of James chapter 1: “Anyone who sets himself up as a ‘religious’ by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight…”

In 2014, Bob ended up running in the municipal election, knocking on 500 doors in the dead of winter but lost by 78 votes, sliding into 2nd place. Bob shared that this defeat was the lowest point in his life, yet God used this valley as a training ground for Bob, and opened another door.

“God has a plan even when it feels like you have failed. He has a bigger plan and is holding you and telling you He is bigger than the problems you face.”

Using key people to get Bob’s attention, God made possible, Bob’s nomination for provincial candidacy in Dawson Trail. Bob won in the first count in a preferential voting system and went on to win the election and current standing as your Member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for Dawson Trail.

So why are political figures sometimes viewed as “all talk and no action?” It is because most of us do not have an accurate understanding of who the person is on the inside. We must be careful to not judge the “man” rather, scrutinize the motives behind the man. Crib News Richer Crib Club had their season windup on Tuesday, April 2nd, with a wonderful pizza, chicken and potluck dinner! As usual, there was a great turnout, and everyone had a good dinner and a good time. Winners for the evening were Roger Chenier in first place, Don Ross in second place, and Don Dmitruk in third.

Glen West got the booby prize, while Carole Marleau won the 50/50. Hi average for the season went to Don Dmitruk, and he picked up all the dimes, which totaled $90, while Claire Logan ended up with the low average and took home a nice bottle of wine. Congratulations to all our winners!

We started our summer session on Tuesday, May 14th, with our usual fun, lots of treats and coffee and good friends. Winning the

evening was Claude Caron, while George Dmitruk came in second, and Ida Chenier took third. Rick Betts won 4th place, and took the dimes home. The Booby prize went to Regina Konge, who picked Tracy Bell’s ticket for the 50/50. Congratulations to our winners! We will be continuing on the second Tuesday of each month until August, so be sure to mark your calendars, as we hope to see you there. Summer session entry fees are $10 per person as we only meet once a month. Our regular 2019/2020 season will start in September.

The Museum committee would like to thank everyone who donated items towards the rummage sale fundraiser. We also thank all the shoppers and the volunteers for donating their time at organizing and making it again a great success.

RECYCLE AND DONATE: The Museum committee have partnered with Allan Durocher to pick up your derelict vehicle, old implements or scrap at no charge to you. He will donate 40% of the invoice value paid by General Scrap, in your name. In return the Corporation The Enfant-Jesus Heritage Site, better known now as the Dawson Trail Museum will issue and send you an official tax receipt for the amounts $20 and greater. You may call Yvonne at 204-422-9369 to make arrangements for pick ups. All proceeds go towards the renovations of the Museum.

Being Impactful Intentionally

By Pastor Ben Funk The month of June is Father’s Day month which causes me to reflect on my father and his influence in my life. It also causes me to reflect on what kind of father was I to my children as they were growing up, and even to this day. I may want to ask that question of you the reader: How are you influencing your children, and is it earning respect. All to soon those days will be gone.

I am thinking that each of us as fathers should have an innate desire to be influential in the lives of our children. We can make mutual inquiry in each other, bouncing ideas and interests off of each other. I particularly enjoy bouncing ideas off of my son and he with me. This contributes to a healthy relationship that builds respect for each other. My dad had a great influence on me as I was growing up, and that influence has become part of my life. I respect my dad because he earned that respect. Now, he was not perfect, but over the years I observed him and learned from him and through those experiences he earned my respect. This holds true whether we are on the trails with our ATV’s or on the water boating and or fishing. Influence has many spheres or categories where respect is earned.

To be influential and respected should really be the goal of all of us as fathers and father figures. Our desire should be to be role models that young people can look up to and learn from. In order to do that we must also see ourselves in the role of a child to our Father in heaven. God our Father is not just the One who created us, but He is the One who has loved us and taught us through the years. As fathers and father figures we should all be mindful that our guidance comes from above. With that point of view, we can be the leaders we should be: Influential, impactful and respected.

The Dawson Trail Museum committee will hold their monthly meeting on Monday June 10th at 1 pm at the LUD Hall. You are all welcome to attend.

The Richer Community Club monthly meeting is Wednesday, June 12, 7:30 pm at the LUD Community Hall.

Farmers Market at the museum on Saturday June 15 and 29 from 10 am to 3 pm you are all welcome.

Come and have lunch on the lawn along with Canada Day cake and hot beverage. The park will have bouncers, wagon rides, kids train rides, live music and an Open Mic stage and lots more!
