Park and Museum Host Canada Day Fun!

Between the Dawson Trail Park and the Dawson Trail Museum, residents of Richer were treated to an activity filled Canada Day topped off with a great fireworks display.

Richer Celebrates Canada Day!

Wagon rides, facepainting, kids train, hotdog BBQ, balloon creations the Rodeo Mascots with gift bags, and a firefighter obstacle course kept everyone busy on Canada Day in Richer. Thanks to the Richer Community Club, the Dawson Trail Museum, the Richer Fellowship Church, and the many businesses who supported this day.

CALENDAR! Richer Community Club meeting...

July 13, 7:30 pm at the Dawson Trail Museum.

Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes parish will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its historical church on July 10. You are all invited to join in the activities of these celebrations. Join us at 10 a.m. for a liturgical celebration at the church, followed by a procession to Redemptorist Park where there will be a picnic atmosphere, including musical entertainment by local groups and other entertainment until around 4 p.m. You can bring your picnic lunch or purchase food at the park. Please bring your lawn chairs.

Dinner and Dance...

Richer Young at Heart Club Dinner and Dance Saturday, July 16 with music by Dennis Nykoliation Band.

Cost is $25 per person and dinner is at 6 pm. Music till 11 pm. Call Ron @ 431 275 0874 for tickets.

Compliment

The most obvious fact about praise, whether of God or any thing else, strangely may escape us. We can think of it in terms of compliment, approval, or the giving of honour. Strangely, it may be curious to notice that all enjoyment spontaneously overflows into praise, unless shyness or the fear of boring others is deliberately brought in to check it. The world rings with praise: readers praising their favorite poet, walkers praising the scenery, sport enthusiasts praising their favorite game; praise of weather, dishes, actors, vehicles, horses, colleges, countries, historical personages, children, flowers, mountains, rare stamps, rare beetles, even sometimes politicians or scholars. It is exciting to notice how the humblest, and at the same time most balanced and charitable minds, praised the most, while the cranks, misfits and the discontented praised least.

You may not have noticed either that just as people spon-

taneously praise what ever they value, they also spontaneously urge us to join them in praising it: “Isn’t she lovely? Wasn’t it glorious? Don’t you think that to be magnificent?” The Psalmists, in urging everyone to praise God are doing what all people do when they speak of what they care about. The whole difficulty about the praise of God depends on us when we deny to ourselves, the supremely Valuable, what we delight to do in praising of Him. As we enjoy being in relationship with Him, we can not help praising Him, because we value that relationship with Him. It would seem that we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses our delight, but it completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete until it is expressed.

Might I suggest, do not be shy or fearful, express your praise to someone or about something.

Richer Fellowship Church is on YouTube Live each Sunday morning at 11:00am. You may also pick us up on 101.9fm local radio, beginning at 10:15am with praise and worship, then leading into a time of worship and learning from God’s Word.

Raising Your Food at Home Closer to Reality Food is getting expensive and the RM of Ste Anne council feels that producing your own food at home is going to become a more popular means of keeping up with the increased cost of living. We recently updated our animal control bylaw to allow more families to have animals for food production. Those on larger 4 acres or more parcels in the rural mix or rural R5 zones will be able to have a farm animal unit which can include livestock such as a couple goats. We have also increased the opportunities for hobby poultry for residents allowing up to 10 chickens on property under 2 acres and then another 10 chickens every acre over that up to 5 acres. Over 5 acres animal units would then apply.

our zoning bylaws and make this a reality for everyone.

Our municipality is currently undergoing a full zoning bylaw review with a consultant partnership. Meetings are being held with key stakeholders and the hope is to have everything finalize by the end of summer.

Times like what we are seeing today have come and gone many times in the past. You don’t usually know you are officially in a recession until you are long into one. We will get through these crazy costs of living increases though like we have before. The best thing to do is to keep learning during these times in order to be better equipped to tackle other hard times in the future. I think encouraging and allowing residents to take the opportunity to produce their own food at home is a step in the right direction.

People of the past relied on this and have past down knowledge to younger generations. It seems this knowledge has been getting watered down or lost because going to the grocery store is just so much easier. Canning vegetables isn’t so much common knowledge anymore. It’s never too late to learn these things and we encourage residents to reach out and see what they can produce on their own properties. I wish you all a plentiful harvest!

Discover Our Past.

Dawson Trail Museum Celebrating Our Past.

Museum committee will not hold monthly meetings during the months of July and August. Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 7 pm at the museum.

The museum has two summer student assistants: We welcome Khloé Lessard Kulchynski and Zackary Ross, both from Richer. We are looking forward to working with them at cataloguing artifacts, giving tours, organizing the library, gift shop, markets, and outdoor maintenance.

Thanks to all who attended the Canada Day Celebration at the museum, over two hundred people participated on this beautiful afternoon. The children especially enjoyed the face painting, balloons, along with horse drawn wagon rides, cake, beverage, and popcorn was enjoyed by all. Memberships were available and the gift shop was open, plus 50/50 tickets sale where the draw will take place on October 13.

Projects for the summer months: The front step project is delayed due to material back order. The remaining three faces of the museum stucco will be repaired and painted, windows scraped, sanded and glass re glazed and finish coat. The project is aimed for July 9th till July22nd. The museum is thankful for the MMF summer student lawn maintenance program, as they take pride in their work.

How can you get involved in your community you asked? The museum board is looking for you.
