Construction to Begin Soon

BMX Track in Planning Stage

Thanks in part to a grant from Canada Post Foundation, a subcommittee of the Richer Community Club is looking into the design and construction of BMX moguls and track at the northeast end of the park. While this project is in its initial stage, the concept is to incorporate a hill that could be used as a small toboggan area in the winter months.

Visitors to the Dawson Trail Park will notice a bit of extra activity as the covering of the outdoor rink project breaks ground with the foundation. Engineered plans are complete, permits are in place and thanks to volunteer general contractor Steph Pattyn of Pattyn Ventures, site preparation will start very shortly. Pending any major delays, the timeline for completion of the structure will be in early spring.

This year is the 50th Anniversary of Dawson Trail Park in Richer.

The piece of land on the east end of the community has come a long way from the field stone filled field purchased in 1970. We invite the community to post photos and memories on the Richer Community Club Facebook page to remind us all of the fun we’ve had over the past five decades.

Park Offers Winter Fun The Dawson Trail Park ice rink and skating trails are a perfect place to enjoy some winter fun thanks to a dedicated maintenance crew.

Everyone is invited to utilize these and the other amenities available in the park such as the playground structure and the new community firepit.

Crib News Richer Crib Club met on Tuesday, Nov. 5th, and we really had a full house, with 7 full tables. Welcome to everyone who was a first-timer! Art Bergman took first place, while Don Dmitruk came in second and Harold Burnell won third place. Dan Ross got the booby prize, and pulled George Dmitruk’s ticket for the 50/50.

Then on Nov. 19th, Rick Betts won first place, with Lucy Richard coming in a close second, and Don Dmitruk won third. Claire Logan (yours truly) won the booby prize and Don Dmitruk won the 50/50.

On Dec. 3rd, and we had another almost full house with 6 ¾ tables! A newcomer, Marlene Vanderzweep from Stonewall won the tournament, while Cornie Klassen came in second and Rick Betts took third place. Carole Marleau got the booby prize, and Don Dmitruk won the 50/50 again.

We held our final tournament of 2019 on Tuesday, December 17th, and to celebrate the season, we had a really great potluck supper beforehand. Winning the evening was Wayne Johanneson, with Harold Burnell coming in second. Wally Adair finished third, and yours truly took the Booby prize again. This is getting to be a bad habit! Norm Burnell won the 50/50, which was pretty hefty this week. Congratulations to all our winners.

Our next tournament will be Tuesday, January 7th, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Young at Hearts hall. Everyone is welcome! Entry fees are $5 and coffee and snacks are always free, so come on out and join us!

Hundreds Attend Christmas Celebration The Richer Community Club Christmas in the Park held recently attracted hundreds of families from the area. Santa’s visit with gifts for the kids complemented the sleigh rides, ice skating, bonfire, music and free hotdogs and drinks.

service people to make events less stressful. We also offer guidance in emotional and spiritual development. We truly believe going it would like to do. As we plan for alone is just too exhausting, it is 2020 hopefully we can take some things we have learned to do better in 2019 and take them to guide us in 2020. I am sure some of us have been reflecting on the past year to evaluate the purpose of some of our choices that we made. For the coming year it would be good to have some objective strategies that will guide us down the path of life.

Those strategies should probably be deeper than a “New Years” resolution. Its not that they are not valid, it’s just the majority of us have lost sight of those resolutions a few weeks into the next year. A suggestion that is always current is do not go it alone.

Invite God into your life and make Him part of your objective strategies to shape the following year. Richer Fellowship Church is a group of people who genuinely believe they are part and parcel of the community of Richer. We do our best to be part of the volunteer

Relationship – We Choose

By Pastor Ben Funk If you have been like me, you may have been asking yourself where has 2019 gone? It seemed so most recently that we celebrated a year gone-by and here we are again.

We have engaged in many activities in the past twelve months. This past summer Marjorie had some summer vacation time for the first time in a long time. We took full opportunity of that specialty. We loaded our Harley’s with gear and journeyed off to places we had not previously enjoyed riding. These are always opportunities to create special memories that we can chalk up for reminiscing at a later date and time. We also took some time to relax in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, in a cabin that we rented. For a moment we almost thought we were rich folks, while we enjoyed this luxury. During that week some of our children and grandchildren joined us for a family breakfast on the deck and some fun on the water with the boat. Fun times, giving the grandchildren new experiences of being towed behind the boat.

The year was definitely full of fun times, and also some not so fun times.

For some of us we are entering the New Year without a friend or a family member that has left our physical world, us included. God informs us if we are in relationship with Him through His Son Jesus we will see our friend or family member again. We choose what we

better to include God and a brother or sister in our life’s journey. From Pastor Ben Funk and Richer Fellowship Church have a wonderful and blessed 2020.

Richer Fireside Youth...

The Candy Cane Gospel

On Dec. 6 Youth celebrated Christmas by icing sugar cookies, playing games and opening gifts. We started the evening using a candy cane to teach the kids the simple Gospel message.

The candy cane has always been associated with Christmas yet not many people know the significance of the colors, red, white and green. Youth learned that red symbolizes the stripes by which Jesus took upon Himself, shedding His blood so that mankind could be saved from their sins, giving him a white heart.

The shape of a candy cane is the shepherd’s hook and when inverted is also the letter J for Jesus, the gentle Shepherd of the sheep. Green represents a pasture, where Jesus gives his sheep rest and all colors twisted together mean the message of hope and love for every nation

and race.

A special thank you to Ken and Sheila for their thoughtfulness in buying each of the Youth a gift this Christmas.

9:30 am - 12 noon. 1st stop Burnell’s, 2nd stop Richer Inn, 3rd stop Tibeauville, 4th stop Timberline, with the 5th stop at the Richer Husky where the recyclers will remain until noon. Recycling can also be dropped off in the recycling shed located in the Richer Husky parking lot at your convenience.

Monday Night Bingos - To raise funds for Stacey Pchajek Memorial Foundation Inc. The foundation provides scholarships, bursaries and prizes to students graduating grades 8 and 12.
