2019 Community Calendars The 2019 Richer Community Calendar sales have come to an end raising just over $2,300 to go towards the Richer Dawson Trail Park playground fund.

Crib News

Richer Crib Club held their first tournament of 2019 on Tuesday, January 8th, with a great turnout! In first place, George Dmitruk took the honours while Rick Betts placed second. Don Dmitruk came in third, while Claude Caron took the Booby prize. The 50/50 was won by Miranda Laszchuk.

Welcome back, Mandy! Then, on Tuesday, January 22nd, we had another great turnout, with lots of fun and great snacks! Winning the evening was Wally Adair, with Dennis Brown coming in second place and Glen West taking third place. Claude Caron took the booby prize, while Art Bergman won the 50/50. Congratulations all! Our February tournaments are Tuesdays, February 5th and 19th at 7 p.m, at the Young at Heart hall, entry fee is only $5 and snacks and coffee are always free, so come on out and join us for a fun evening of cards and laughs!

Never Ever Give Up

By Pastor Ben Funk As you well know, we are in the dead of winter. This can do weird things to some of us, particularly when we have not seen the sun for a while. In this frame of season, did you ever feel like quitting? Do you ever feel like giving up on life? Maybe all of us have had that feeling at one time or another. Sometimes we may have wanted to run away from it all. I am reminded of the cartoon where the Pelican has a frog clamped in its beak. The frogs head is already out of view, but it takes its front hands and grabs the Pelican’s throat to choke it. The caption reads, “Never ever give up”. So when you feel like giving up, grab your circumstance by the throat and cry out to God for help. All of a sudden a bulb will come on and you begin to see a whole new perspective.

Have you ever had a moment when all the light bulbs come on and you have this “aha” moment. Suddenly everything makes sense, and you begin to see your way through. In the new year we have just entered, if we alert our awareness, I hope you have many of those moments. Many of us call those moments God moments.

It is hoped that God will give you greater clarity about your life and your future. We, at Richer Fellowship Church, extend a hearty invitation to come and worship with us each Sunday, 10:30am. 50 Southeast Dr.

God’s Mercy: Not Getting What We Deserve

We started off the New Year asking Youth to name some of the events or changes in 2018, either nationally or globally. Across the board, the events they seemed to remember was that someone’s cousin got married, what they got for Christmas, or that the last movie they watched scared them. But after reminding them about the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy for example, or giving them the rising stats on the abortion rate in 2018, Youth had to decide if the person received justice in these situations.

Question: “If someone chooses to have an abortion, is there justice for the unborn child?” One Youth didn’t know what an abortion was and others talked about “a bunch of cells forming, but that it wasn’t a baby yet.”

Rebuttal: “Well, when does it become a baby then?” A few opinions later we decided to open the Bible and see what God says about the unborn. In Psalm 139 King David says to God, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…my frame was not hidden from You when I was secretly made… Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.

And in your book they were all written, the days fashioned for me when as yet there were none of them.” “Hey, it’s a baby from the beginning!” Kids then decided that justice for the unborn was not served through abortion, as the baby lost its right to live.

Question: “Should the truck driver that ran the stop sign serve life in prison for all the lives that were lost?”

Some kids said yes and others were undecided. Rebuttal: “What if “you” were driving and accidently ran the stop sign and killed someone?” “Naw, not life in prison,” was the unanimous answer.

In 2 Samuel 24:14, King David had made a huge mistake and worries more about his enemies pursuing him than God’s punishment for him. “I am in great distress. Please let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

Casual Weight Loss Richer TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) have been meeting for many years in the Richer Fellowship Sunday School building on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. Due to time constraints of some of our members however, it has been decided to change the day of our meetings from Tuesdays to Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. effective Thursday, February 7th. Location has not changed. TOPS Inc. is a low cost group for anyone who is interested in learning about healthy, better eating and living, and losing weight as well. We are a very casual group, and have a lot of fun.

Saturday, Feb. 9 and 23: Recycling Collection. 9:30 am - 12 noon. 1st stop Burnell’s, 2nd stop Richer Inn, 3rd stop Tibeauville, 4th stop Timberline, with the 5th stop at the Richer Husky where the recyclers will remain until noon. Recycling can also be dropped off in the recycling shed located in the Richer Husky parking lot at your convenience.

The Dawson Trail Museum committee will resume their monthly meeting on February 11th at 1pm at the LUD Hall. You are all welcome to attend.

The Richer Community Club meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 13, 7:30 pm at the LUD Community Hall.

Monday Night Bingos - To raise funds for Stacey Pchajek Memorial Foundation Inc. The foundation provides scholarships, bursaries and prizes to students graduating grades 8 and 12. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult to be on premises and must play bingo.
