BSI Insurance Donates to the Richer Community Club “Cover Up” Campaign

BSI Insurance has donated to the Richer Community Club to help with the purchase of a Pavilion Style Cover for the Outdoor Rink. The cover will make it more appealing to the community and region as weather would play a smaller part in affecting events and make it available to a larger variety of activities.

This is an important recreation facility which services the Richer Community and area and runs many events throughout the year, such as the Richer Rodeo. This donation is made through BSI Insurance’s Because We Care Initiative.

Crib News Richer Crib Club met on Tuesday, March 5th, for another fun night of snacks, sociability and cards too, of course. Norm Burnell took top honours for the evening, with Wally Adair coming in second and Dan Ross in third. Regina Konge got the booby prize, and picked Dan Ross’s ticket for the 50/50. On Tuesday, March 19th, we had our second last tournament of the 2018/2019 season.

Good friends, delicious snacks and great fun! Dan Ross took the evening’s honours, with Laura West coming a close second.

Gayle Carriere won third place, while Norm Burnell, our indefatigable leader, got the Booby prize.

Visitor Suzanne Dmitruk won the 50/50, so hopefully she will be back again. Congratulations everyone! Our next tournament is April 2nd, and will be our season windup, so we will be starting at 6 p.m. with a supper of pizza and whatever, and starting play at 7 p.m. as usual. You don’t want to miss it, so come on down!

We have now trained in the use of the new set and we have put them into service. We also wish to thank the R.M. of Ste. Anne and all people living in the R.M. for their support in purchasing this new set of life saving tools. Without these tools the time required to remove a person involved in a motor vehicle collision can be tripled. These tools save time which in our line of work saves lives. As with any tools training and practice are imperative to maintain a constant state of preparedness and these are no different. We are currently looking for vehicles to use to cut and train with if you have one or know of any who may have one please contact any Fire Dept member to make arrangements for pick up.

From The Pastor’s Desk...

Being Impactful Intentionally I have been asking myself a very basic question. How could we be more neighbourly, not just as a church community, but as a community as a whole? We have allowed ourselves to live our lives in seclusion, away from most everyone. We have so individualized our lives that it has, truthfully, become unhealthy. Now, what if there was one thing we could all do to become healthier physically and mentally, and reduce crime considerably? Would you be interested? Well, there actually is. Considerable research has been done to find that one simple act. That one simple act is: Getting to know your neighbour.

This would require from all of us to become more intentional in getting to know our neighbour. It is the intention of Richer Fellowship to take a more proactive role in encouraging our people to be good neighbours, and getting involved in our community. The single act of getting to know your neighbour reduces the space in which a criminal can find seclusion or insulation. There is great safety in an informed neighbourhood. We at Richer Fellowship

intentionally host an open invitation barbeque to our neighbourhood for lunch every Second Sunday all summer long, beginning with Mother’s Day and ending in September. This does not come with a prerequisition to attend the worship service first… although there is an open invitation to that as well.

That choice is yours. The barbeque invitation is open.

To our neighbours, our yard is big… I would invite someone on our street to initiate a Block Barbeque this summer. There is a sand volley ball court with a good net available to be used. We could entertain other ideas as well.

Jesus speaks of a very basic life enhancing principle: Love God, and Love Thy Neighbour. This simply means getting to know the people that live next door to us. To me it becomes self-evident… if we all want to impact our community in a positive and healthy way we should begin by being neighbourly.

Begin by saying hi to people, even those you may not know. Begin with small talk. Soon we will be the happiest place in Manitoba. Cheers – Pastor Ben.

Richer Fireside Youth...

Bob Lagasse: Connecting the Dots When we ask God to step into our lives to help us figure things out, He will not only answer us but will cause us to reflect back on those very low points or ‘Dots’ to help us see that He didn’t let us “fall on our heads.”

Last summer, I had the privilege of meeting Bob Lagasse, MLA of Dawson Trail at the Metis Pavilion at Folklorama. It wasn’t long into the conversation, that Bob’s engaging personality and easy manner gave me the freedom to ask some pointed questions. First of all, I couldn’t help but notice the tattoo on Bob’s forearm: Jeremiah 29:11. It was the exact Life verse that all our Youth lessons are based on: God has a plan for “You.” This led up to my very bold question: “Um, so sir, are you a Christian?” Bob’s straight forward response laced with a smile was, “Don’t call me sir, it’s just Bob, and yes I’m a Christian.” Bob went on to share with me a portion of his faith journey and I was immediately captivated by his story. He in return asked about the Richer Youth and Wally and I shared that

we are reaching out to the Youth of Richer in hopes of sharing God’s love with them. “Hey, would you like me to come and talk to the kids and the community of Richer?

I’ll share about my faith journey, how God connected the ‘Dots’ on my map of life.”

Lagasse will share his Faith Journey for the community of Richer on: Friday May 10 at 7 pm at the Richer School gymnasium. Everyone is welcome to come out and meet Bob. Music by: SCMC Praise Team. Admission is Free.

Start Collecting for Annual Rummage Sale It seems Spring is here to stay, so it’s a good time to clean closets and cupboards before summer rolls along.
