Welcome, friends, family, students and staff, to DC’s secondary production of the wildly witty, delightfully dark, and eternally relevant musical, Little Shop of Horrors.
When choosing a show for our accomplished performers, we look for material that challenges them, stretches their creative limits, and offers layers of interpretation. Little Shop delivers all of that, wrapped up in a catchy, doo-wop score. While the story is, on the surface, a silly sci-fi horror show about a man-eating plant, it’s also a surprisingly insightful morality tale. It forces us to ask: What are we willing to sacrifice for success? And who (or what) are we feeding with our ambitions?
This production has been an extraordinary journey for our talented students. They have embraced the challenge of creating a full, breathing world on Skid Row: a world of desperation, dreams, and undeniable charm. They’ve mastered complex harmonies, learned technical stagecraft, and, most importantly, brought to life the iconic, demanding presence of Audrey II, a feat of puppetry and performance that is a true highlight of this show.
Our students have dedicated countless hours to this project, balancing late rehearsals with demanding academic work. They have learned about teamwork, resilience, and the sheer joy of creating something collaboratively. Their commitment, professionalism, and courage—especially in tackling a show with such specific humour and style—have been inspiring.
