YEARBOOK 2025-26
It has been a genuine honor and a privilege to join the Discovery College community this academic year. As I reflect on these past months, I keep returning to a single word: belonging. Joining a community as vibrant and established as ours can be a daunting prospect, yet from my very first day, I was met with an authenticity that made the transition feel less like a move and more like a homecoming. This sense of connection is best captured in the

It is an immense privilege to be involved in the development and production of the school Yearbook. As we gather the photographs, the messages and the reflections from our community, it brings to the fore the pride and gratitude we feel for the extraordinary ways our community has come together. In particular, the 2025-26 academic year is one in which a sense of belonging has had a renewed focus in the College. Our community has come alive through cultural celebrations including Halloween, the Mid-Autumn Festival, Diwali, and Chinese New Year. These celebrations validate our individual identities, foster mutual respect, and build community cohesion through our shared experiences. They are, also, lots of fun! Additionally, it has been inspiring to witness the impact of our student-led initiatives, including the Swap and Shop, the Love for Luke blood drive, and the dedication of our student leaders in organizing Fun Fridays. We have also put a renewed focus on enhancing student voice to improve our facilities, curriculum, and community engagement, with the re-establishment of our Secondary Sportsday just one example of how student voice and leadership can bring us together. The Yearbook is, however, more than just a collection of memories; it is a testament to the resilience and spirit of our students and staff. It serves not only as a source of pride for us in the present but also as a nostalgic reminder of the vibrant experiences we’ve shared and the milestones we’ve achieved together. As you turn the pages and look back on our shared expereiences, whether as immediate readers in the summer of 2026, or in the future, may you feel the same pride and ebullience as we did when putting this together. Here’s to a wonderful year and the many memories that will continue to bring us joy in the future. With warm regards, Mark Jobling Deputy Head of College

YEARBOOK 2025-26
As we look back on the 2025-26 academic year, it has been filled with joyful learning, collaborative spirit, and significant strides forward. Our School Council has been at the very heart of this progress, diligently governing the College and ensuring that the student and parent voice remain a powerful driver of positive change. From championing initiatives focused on student well-being to supporting the development of school infrastructure, the Council’s insight has been invaluable. The dedication of our Council members is also truly inspiring. They generously volunteer their time and expertise, bringing diverse perspectives that enrich school decision-making quantity and guide toward a more inclusive and dynamic future to Discovery College. As Chair, there is nothing more rewarding than to students’ smiling faces and seeing their enthusiasm as they embrace new challenges, explore their passions, and support one another As you turn the pages of this DC Yearbook, I hope you are filled with pride and fond memories of another remarkable year.

Beginning Year 7 was both exciting and daunting. Throughout this year, our year group has achieved so much together. With new chapters, came new faces and new teachers, making this year a memorable milestone as we embarked on our first year of Secondary school. Through all the challenging times we have been through, we persevered and continued. This year, we learned to adapt to new structures, manage heavier workloads, and supported each other through tough times. We welcomed new classmates and built a strong, inclusive year group community. Collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, we applied knowledge across different subjects, and presented our Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) board games that we made. We participated in school productions, discovered hidden talents, and built confidence on stage; little roles, big hearts! We were so excited that the traditional sports day was revived - we got to cheer for our friends and support our houses! Over the Primary years, we have been through many ups and downs. This year, we had fun learning and evolving into Secondary School students. No Boundaries Week was a marvellous experience as we faced fears together as a team. Thank you so much to our wonderful Learning Advisors: Ms Millar, Mr Davis, Mr Bolton, Mr Turagaiviu and Ms Yoong, and our Dean, Mrs Jolly, for all their support this year. Anya Ngao 7B

and Learning Advisors for the invaluable support they provide.
Year 8 was a marvelous year for all of us as we got to meet new teachers, got to meet new classmates, and most of all we got to meet our fabulous new Dean Ms Viirret. As a whole year group, we did so many meaningful activities together, learned many new things, and faced new challenges as well. This year, for the very first time in November, we got a chance to be independent and had the opportunity to explore new villages and residential places in China, and the wonderful camps in Hong Kong. We got to experience China’s diverse culture and the stunning environmental landscapes. Overall, No Boundaries was the highlight of the year. Then, for Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) Week, we got to organise activities in groups and made a persuasive health and wellbeing campaign. This project made us learn about the different hormones and different health benefits. And who can forget the unforgettable Sports Day? We all put on our house colors and the air was alive with roaring excitement. From the relays to the high jump finals, it was truly a memorable day for everyone involved who demonstrated hard teamwork. Another exciting experience we got to do in Science class was the heart dissection. It was the wildest thing we have ever done. In pairs, we were working together exploring the sheep’s heart. At first, we all were a little hesitant and nervous, but ultimately, we all did it and got to understand the heart functions, and got to learn something new. Overall, this year has been a new year of learning experiences and will be a remarkable year for all of us. See you soon, Year 9 !! Anayaa Iyer, 8P Ambassador

Team spirit was heightened during the IDU Amazing Race. Teams creating challenges and producing striking promotional videos revealed both innovation and collaboration. Adding a twist to our year, the Year 9 Mockingjays were hosted to present Hunger Games Awards. With unique categories that captured our creativity, the event was both entertaining and meaningful to everyone. Beyond academic life, we celebrated friendship and fun at the Year 9 Social, sharing food, watching Legally Blonde, and simply enjoying each other’s presence which created a relaxed atmosphere, bonding outside the classroom. A marvellous chance to laugh, connect, and strengthen our relationships. During Extended Learning Time, the excitement continued. Engaging ourselves in the spirit of multisport combined with healthy competition strengthened connections and cooperation like no other occasion. We have had the consistent guidance of our Student Leaders, our Learning Advisors, and Mrs. Tate, throughout Year 9. Their support provided the opportunity to risk-take, approach challenges confidently, and discover our real selves. The laughter of the Year 9 Social, the innovation of the Amazing Race, experiencing learning in an unfamiliar place, Year 9 is, quintessentially: community, imagination, and discovery. A record of how far we have come as a cohort. Oskar Tsing, Gavin Sin and Kairav Singh, 9G

Year 10 was the year about choices and firsts. From new students to new subjects, Year 10 was full of discovery. We navigated the big decision of our first subject selections, diving into new ideas where we became directors in Media, artists in Art, composers in Music, performers in Theatre, and designers crafting everything from gourmet food to wearable jewelry and innovative products. Our cohort’s “No Boundaries” week was yet again another success, from exploring the hidden streets of Hong Kong to adventures overseas, we collected memories beyond our classroom walls. Interdisciplinary Unit Week challenged us to find “Order in Chaos”, blending our Arts and Math in new ways. Presenting our final pieces, whether an artwork, photograph, a performance, or a composition, showed us that the most creative ideas are often built by connecting different parts of our learning. We unleashed our house spirit at our first-ever Secondary Sports Day, our collective spirit on the track and field left a fire that will burn brighter at Sports Days to come. The choices we make this year shapes the path we take going forward. Facing this reality, our students have never been more diligent in their work before, and the burden of anxiety for our futures has never been heavier. And yet despite the pressures, our cohort has persevered and prevailed. Through the efforts that every student placed into their learning, the Year 11 students have actively prepared themselves for what’s to come next year. The challenges we faced this year strengthened our ability to overcome them, and collectively we’ve become better students and people. As we continue moving forward, both academically and beyond, we are incredibly grateful for our Year 11 Dean, Learning Advisors, Higher Education Officers and teachers whose support and guidance we can always rely on. Our Dean, Mrs Prosser is someone our students can always trust. She is open minded, and makes each and every student feel seen and understood. As a cohort, we are thankful for the opportunities this year has brought us, the lessons we learnt, the fantastic memories we made, and for the teachers who supported us through it all. This academic year marked a truly memorable chapter for Year 12, defined by renewed tradition, teamwork, and accomplishment. The No Boundaries trip was a major highlight, encouraging students to expand their horizons through adventure, service, and cultural exploration, providing a rare opportunity to bond with peers beyond the classroom.

Additionally, the Inter-House competitions reinforced the sense of belonging that defines life here at Discovery College. These events ranged from athletic events to creative challenges like the chalk drawing competition and highlighted the depth and diversity of talent across various fields by DC students and kept the kindred spirit of friendly competition thriving. The return of Secondary Sports Day, our first in fifteen years, was long overdue, and brought the entire school together in a display of athletic excellence and collective spirit. Students demonstrated commitment and unity as they competed for their House, embodying the school’s values both on and off the field. Lastly, following the intensity of our first semester, the Year 12 Christmas Party provided a much-needed opportunity for relaxation and celebration ahead of us moving further into DP. It stood as a fitting representation of what’s been a demanding yet fulfilling year, symbolising friendship, perseverance, and a bright future. Through the unrelenting support of our teachers, peers, and staff, we have been able to do exactly what the DC motto stands for. We learned to grow—to understand one another more deeply, to shift our perspectives, and to become better versions of ourselves. We learned to discover— whether through No Boundaries trips, endless Co-Curricular Activities, or simply finding ourselves within new friendships. And we definitely learned to dream—which, in my opinion, is by far the most important one. The freedom to explore what sets your soul on fire is something DC has always given us, both as a community and as individuals. Growing up alongside such talented people, people who constantly raise the bar, has taught me competitiveness, kindness, empathy, and an open mind. This is something I will always carry with me—as I’m sure every student will carry their own part of the DC spirit wherever they go. Hannah Bolton, 13Y

YEARBOOK 2025-26
ESF DISCOVERY COLLEGE | 157
Cobra Sports has achieved a record-breaking year, offering DC students an unprecedented selection of sports and competition opportunities. This year, an incredible 76 teams entered competitions across 11 sports. The introduction of multiple teams across various sports, alongside the ACAMIS Tournaments, has significantly expanded opportunities, allowing more students than ever to represent the College. Now, every student has the chance to engage in physical activity, ensuring there truly is something for everyone. The Cobra Spirit shone intensely this year, driven by unparalleled dedication. Countless hours of training and sheer grit fueled our athletes’ determination to excel, leading to impressive performances across all codes. Beyond wins and personal bests, our athletes embodied character with consistent humility and constructive reflection on setbacks. True sportsmanship, respect for opponents, officials, and teammates, upheld the game’s integrity. This blend of fierce competitiveness and exemplary conduct defines the Cobra Spirit.
LYDIA NAIVALU DIRECTOR OF CO-CURRICULAR/ SPORT
It’s clear the Cobra Spirit doesn’t just focus on the scoreboard, but on building a culture of “humility and constructive reflection”, which, honestly, is often harder to coach than the sports themselves. 2025-26 Achievements* U11 Boys Football - HKPSSA Football Champions U14 Girls Badminton - ISSFHK Division 2 Champions U16 Boys Football - ISSFHK Division 1 Champions U20 Boys Football - ACAMIS Champions U20 Boys Football - ISSFHK Division 2 Champions U20 Boys Football - HKSSF Islands, Tseun Wan Division Champions & ACAMIS Champions U20 Girls Football - ACAMIS Runners Up U20 Girls Netball - ISSFHK Division 3 Champions U20 Cricket - ISSFHK Division 1 Champions C Grade Girls - HKSSF Swimming Champions A Grade Boys - HKSSF Golf Champions (Net) *Seasons 1-3. YEARBOOK 2025-26
ESF DISCOVERY COLLEGE | 171
Discovery College students have contributed a host of fabulous productions once again this year, ranging from the intimate production of the Year 13 Solo Theatre performances to the sublime massive spectacle of the Secondary Musical, Little Shop of Horrors. Other public performances include the 24 Hour play, two Year 12 Collaborative Project performances, Year 11’s Romeo and Juliet Stage Combat assemblies, the Year 11

Year 12 production. Year 10 Theatre students performed their monologues for family and friends, while the Year 9 students performed their created pieces of original theatre for their peers. Year 8’s have learned all about Mime and Masked theatre while Year 7’s have explored the terrifying unit of Darkwood Manor. Not just our Theatre Captains, but all of our students have had many opportunities to perform, or crew for performances! Additionally, we had some fabulous practitioners lead professional workshops for our students this year too; Hong Kong’s own Keon Lee led Faust’s annual visit to teach stage fighting to our youngest secondary students, professional theatre maker and artistic director, Noa Rotem gifted us two days learning about Viewpoints, and New Zealand’s Red Leap Theatre company led a great workshop on Devising and Creating Theatre. The DP Theatre class had the opportunity to join the ISTA workshop hosted at ISF, where they worked with several HK practitioners, examiners, and the fabulously talented UK theatre company, Box House.

YEARBOOK 2025-26
Discovery College Visual Arts has continued to flourish in 2025-2026! Our young Primary artists explored art as inquiry for transdisciplinary themes with a diverse range of media. Year 1 dived into colour theory, discovering famous artists and sparking excitement for art history. Year 2 explored dance and food as celebrations, creating 3D forms to present art as a gift. Year 3 painted beautiful selfportraits and assembled sustainable sculptures with recycled material. Year 4 constructed armatures and collaborated on big animal collages. Year 5 made beautiful detailed portraits of our beloved staff and brought mythical creatures to life in an IDU with English. Finally, Year 6 students refined carving skills in printmaking workshops, drawing deep inspiration from a field trip to the Zhao Wou Ki exhibition at M+. Secondary Visual Arts bridged technical mastery and community impact. Year 7 made ceramics with environmental inquiry to create delicate metaphors for our planet’s fragility. Year 8 explored the emotional depth of Expressionism through distorted self-portraiture, while Year 9 delved into the subconscious, unlocking symbolic Surrealism. Year 10 painted abstract landscapes and travelled to Peng Chau to create Earth artworks in a spectacular IDU with Math. Year 11 students mastered the art of still life and assemblage to weave cultural heritage and personal stories. Year 12 students commanded exploration in the new Diploma Program (IBDP) syllabus in rigorous Art Making Inquiry Portfolios and Year 13 have now culminated this journey, curating sophisticated final IBDP exhibition, representing the pinnacle of creative growth. Beyond the classroom, our artists were integral to celebrating other initiatives. In the musical, Little Shop of Horrors, set decorators transformed digital concepts into immersive backdrops. The Art Captains held art competitions, helped design the yearbook and embraced Lunar New Year celebrations. Custom Red Packet designs raised funds for local charities and the group painted a "Together" mural for the Year of the Horse. From the formative and summative Exhibitions in the foyer to our extra curricular projects, our students have proven they are not just making art, but using creative voices to reimagine the world around them, making our community a better place.

YEARBOOK 2025-26
It has been an extraordinary year for Music at Discovery College with so many opportunities for our young musicians to express themselves through music. The big focus in Term 1 was the spectacular secondary musical production Little Shop of Horrors where our music ensemble members and vocalists brought the story to life with their performances. Our ensembles returned in Terms 2 and 3 with great enthusiasm including the Cobra Choir, Secondary Choir, Chamber Orchestra, and Stage Band. Some of the true highlights
Matt Davis Head of Music
this academic year were the concerts providing a platform for our young performers. Classical and traditional music was showcased at the more intimate Recital Evening and Young Performers Evening featured the immense talent of our primary musicians. Our secondary students took the stage at the Annual Concert and our hard working ensembles came together to celebrate their achievements at the Ensemble Evening. A historic highlight was the inaugural DC Musician of the Year concert, a platform that celebrated individual virtuosity and set a new benchmark for excellence in overall musicianship. Beyond our campus, our Primary musicians represented DC with distinction at the ESF Primary Choral and Orchestra Concert, fostering connections across our ESF schools. We were also privileged to host the acclaimed artist SuRie. Her workshops were inspiring, offering our students professional insights into songwriting, composition, and advanced vocal techniques. I am immensely proud of our musicians’ growth and contributions to our vibrant music culture. Whether through the discipline of the rehearsal room, the leadership from our music leaders or the courage of a solo spotlight on stage, they have truly embodied the spirit of the DC Music department this year.

Discovery College Student News (DCSN) is an organisation made by students, for students. This year is the agency’s 6th year, and it continues to flourish with 44 students ranging from Year 7 to Year 12. This year, we have posted over 40 articles on our website. Each of these articles have been meticulously written, edited and designed entirely by our student team. Hence, DCSN gives students the opportunity to express themselves through journalistic creativity. DCSN also serves as a means to share the school’s achievements, being a constant media outlet for the school’s sports teams and events, documenting our successes. In February, DCSN also had the honor of receiving an ACAMIS Service Learning Grant, recognizing our efforts for raising awareness surrounding both global and local issues through our articles and social media outreach. Next year, DCSN plans to expand their outreach, working on having a greater impact in our community whilst increasing our team. If you would like to join us, please feel free to contact at dcsn@dc.edu.hk!

Model United Nations Led completely by students, Model United Nations is one of Discovery College’s oldest and largest clubs. It has fostered the development of many students' debate and public speaking abilities, whilst simultaneously exposing them to multifaceted global issues. This year has been extremely successful for our club. Firstly, we hosted our 3rd Model United Nations conference; DCMUN III. This conference saw over 120 attendees coming from across Hong Kong and Macau. Additionally, our club has competed in four unique conferences, having over 40 delegates, and bringing home several awards. Currently, we are in the process of organising next year’s DCMUN IV, the fourth iteration of DCMUN since its revival, and we invite all secondary students to participate! DCMUN IV is set to happen in late November, and is a great opportunity to experience MUN within the familiarity of our campus. To stay updated about DCMUN IV, you can follow @dcmun.hk on Instagram! Vicky Wong
Vicky came to us as a diamond in the rough, and she worked incredibly hard to learn our systems, studying courses in the evenings and applying her newfound expertise in lighting and stage managing. She quickly because an integral and productive member of the team, and was always a delightful and sunny person to work with. She was incredibly helpful in providing additions we didn’t even know we needed and her Drama Technician creativity knew no bounds! Our productions only looked as good as they did because of her leadership on lights and set/props management with the students! She was fabulous at working with students and they learned an incredible amount from her. Her new school has scored an incredible technician as well as a beautiful human being. We will miss her greatly!
Teacher - English / Dean Y13
Claire has been a cornerstone of the English Department for as long as any of us can remember. Similarly, she has been the ‘go-to’ proxy mum for so many students over the years, which is a testament to her caring and empathetic nature. She has been a true team player and although she left many emails unread (thousands actually!), she always seemed to know what was going on and where the meetings were. Finding a replacement for her has been particularly difficult; there’s just no replacing somebody like this. Best of luck, Claire - you will be missed by just about everyone in the community. Thanks for showing up everyday and caring about everyone.
Rachel Yu
