LONG ISLAND IS MAKING WAVES IN 2025.
On behalf of the Discover Long Island Public Relations & Communications team, I am pleased to present this 2025 collection of earned media press placements. As the only accredited Destination Marketing Organization for Suffolk County and the greater Long Island region, Discover Long Island takes a strategic approach to developing strong relationships with journalists from media outlets around the world to share the stories of our destination across print, digital, and broadcast media These press-focused efforts help extend awareness about our region and further inspire potential visitors, ultimately assisting in the year-after-year record-breaking tourism economy success seen on Long Island, which currently stands at $7.5 billion in visitor spending. Behind everyvisitor and every dollar spent is a ripple effect of economic impact that touches restaurants, hotels, attractions, transportation systems, downtowns and beyond, ensuring our region flourishes.
The Discover Long Island Public Relations & Communications department plays a vital role in increasing awareness of our region and situating Long Island as a premier destination by pitching our stories far and wide. Press and media exposure are essential extensions of our tourism efforts. Each story pitch we send is carefully tailored to the specific outlet and writer, increasing the likelihood of high-quality coverage that drives visitation and strengthens our brand For top-tier media exposure, our Communications team carefullyvets journalists who are interested in a familiarization (FAM) tour to experience Long Island firsthand while on assignment for their publication. These visits require our team to craft a specially curated itinerary to fit the journalist’s assignment all while highlighting the region and uplifting our valued partners, who often participate in these FAMs by offering to host the journalist at their business in exchange for coverage in the press piece. The DLI Public Relations & Communications also travels to meet in person with journalists interested in featuring the Long Island region in theirwork Through conferences, media events, and one-on-one meetings, our team works to ensure our media-facing relationships are strong and productive.

Earned media is free, organic coverage from the press and social media influencers. This kind of exposure is “earned” through strong relationships with media and creative pitching. Discover Long Island’s Public Relations & Communications team works year-round to craft unique story angles to secure coverage that reaches far beyond our region, ensuring Long Island, and even more specifically, our valued partners get proper exposure.

Paid media is advertising through media This includes digital ads, sponsored posts and articles, commercials, billboards, and more, where Discover Long Island pays to place our message in front of a targeted audience. Paid media gives us control over the timing and placement of our message
