Horn Head is just one of many Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Points and is about 6km north of Dunfanaghy. It has uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean below and nearby coastal headlands. Well worth the drive!

Bloody Foreland juts out into the Atlantic about 12km west of Magheraroarty. It gets its name from the intense red hue on the rocks from the setting sun. A great photo opportunity!

Inishowen & East Donegal
Reconnect with Irish tradition in the largest Gaeltacht or Irish-speaking region in Ireland, stretching from Glencolmcille through Gweedore (Gaoth Dobhair) all the way to Fanad Head. Get acquainted with the locals to hear them speak the native tongue and to pick up some new Irish phrases. Dive into the abundance of legends and folklore and revel in the sound of fiddles, bodhráns and flutes as they play traditional tunes that keep the history and heritage of the Gaeltacht alive.
Donegal Town is a vibrant and bustling town located at the mouth of the River Eske. It boasts numerous colourful shops, cafés, restaurants and hotels, many of which are centred around The Diamond. Take a visit to Donegal Castle, built by the O’Donnell chieftains in the 15th century, or check out the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre. The Donegal Bay Waterbus departs from The Pier and takes in the sites along Donegal Estuary.
Inishowen is a stunning peninsula steeped in history. Covering a 100mile radius, ‘Inishowen 100’ signposts direct you along one of the most breath-taking scenic drives in Ireland, stretching out to Ireland’s most northerly mainland point at Malin Head.
The rugged and gloriously untamed landscape is easily matched by the spectacular coastline, with 1,100km of sandy shores, dramatic cliffs and gorse-clad peninsulas to explore. Grab your wetsuit and surfboard and master the waves at Rossnowlagh, trek down the breathtaking beaches by horseback at Trá na Rossan or stroll along the stunning white sands of Portsalon Beach.
Assaranca Waterfall – a stunning waterfall on the west coast about 8km from Ardara. It has lush green surroundings and is also right alongside the road, allowing for easy access and viewing. A little further along the road is the beautiful Maghera Beach and Caves. Bundoran’s Fairy Bridges and Wishing Chair - on the southern end of Tullan Strand, peculiar rock formations have created a series of natural blowholes which causes the sea water to crash and blow upwards, which locals once thought were haunted, hence the name “The Fairy Bridges”. Nearby is the Wishing Chair, a seat carved from stone with various associated rituals. More information: www.discoverbundoran.com Lough Derg Pilgrimage Island is a unique island in an idyllic setting, rich in prayer and faith, which has been calling pilgrims for over a thousand years. The Pilgrim Path is a 12km peaceful walking route that begins and ends at the Visitor Centre on the lakeshore. More information: www.loughderg.org

If you long to get closer to the clouds, brave the highest sea cliffs in Ireland at Slieve League (Sliabh Liag). Discover the beehive huts and chapel used by early Christians and breathe in the salty sea air as you marvel at the panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Sligo mountains and Donegal Bay. If you’re lucky you may even spot a pod of playful dolphins or gentle basking sharks in the churning waters 600m below.

A visit to the Islands of Donegal will reinvigorate you. This is predominately where the Irish language and culture is still vibrant.
In the southwest of the county, explore Glencolmcille (Gleann Cholm Cille), known locally as “In Through”, to discover historic court cairns and pillar stones with ancient Christian markings. From there, journey down the magnificent Glengesh Pass, a winding road encompassed by stunning mountains that stretches to the lively town of Ardara, famous for its tweeds and knitwear, the Cup of Tae Traditional Music Festival and the annual Agricultural Show.

Donagh Cross (Carndonagh) is a 7th century high cross, considered one of the most important early Christian relics in Ireland and Britain. East Donegal is a beautiful area of green rolling farmland and valleys with many hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Drumboe Woods are situated alongside the vibrant twin towns of Ballybofey & Stranorlar. There are short walking trails with car parking and a picnic area.
