Welcome to your October issue...

I

t’s been an exciting month for our Discovering Magazines team as the first issue of our latest title, Discovering Chatteris, finds its way into the homes and businesses of this small, friendly Cambridgeshire market town.

No sooner have holiday things been stored away and new school shoes and uniforms ‘broken in’, than we now turn to local schools and their Open Days for next September’s potential intake! If you are looking to give up smoking, “Stoptober” is the campaign for you and so much help is available by visiting websites such as www.campaignresources.dhsc.gov.uk/campaigns/stoptober-2026 With the money you’ll have saved, treat yourselves to a Christmas to remember – less than a hundred days from now! But before then, don’t forget to stock up for when those “Trick or Treaters” pay you a visit on Hallowe’en, October 31st. Finally, don’t forget to change your clocks (“Spring forward, Fall back”), as we ‘lose the hour’ on Sunday, October 25th.

Claire x

You know when summer has well and truly ended when the adverts appear on TV for the new programmes that are about to start to see us through the autumn and winter months. Having served up mainly dross during the recent scorching summer, the terrestrial and satellite channels are about to bring out their big hitters as they know that many of us will now be firmly ensconced at home during the dark evenings. It only seems like yesterday when the daylight seemed to last forever but the reality is that British Summer Time ends on Sunday, October 25th. I actually like this time of year as I enjoy the changing landscape and colours of the season, but the prospect of a long winter fills me with dread. Still, I will be bravely facing it with my trusty TV control in hand and planner packed with my favourite programmes…

Food & Drink

BY TREVOR LANGLEY

WINES FROM THAILAND

T

A Good Choice! hailand (officially the Kingdom of Thailand and previously known as Siam) is a country in South East Asia. Today, manufacturing, tourism and agriculture are leading parts of Thailand’s economy. Thai cuisine and wines are very popular and can now be found globally.

Monsoon Valley is a multi-awardwinning fine wine producer. Grapes are carefully selected and transported in air-conditioned vehicles from the Monsoon Valley Vineyard to the Siam Winery. Producing splendid classic, premium and flagship wines, with grapes only grown in Thailand, Monsoon Valley wines are now enjoyed by numerous connoisseurs and are also available in 5-star hotels and restaurants, in Thailand and many countries worldwide, including the UK. Monsoon Valley White (12% vol) wine has a pleasant bouquet, plus a good mouthfeel and palate sensation, and is excellent with seafood and white meats. The Monsoon Valley Red (13%

4

vol) wine has ripe, red fruits for the bouquet and the mouth’s pleasures. This pairs wonderfully with red meats. If it’s rosé that is preferred, then the Monsoon Valley Rosé (12% vol) wine will not disappoint. This wine has a delicate nose, excellent mouthfeel and palate, and is a wine that is extremely popular for numerous occasions. If a Shiraz is required, then Monsoon Valley Shiraz (13.5% vol) from the Premium Range, with its ruby-red, enticing appearance, has it all. Dark fruits are in abundance, with oak-aged barrels contributing to the exceptional pleasures of this wine. It is fantastic with red meats.

D I S C O V E R I N G Whittlesea

Muscat (15% vol) is a ‘flagship’ delectation and a very popular fortified dessert wine, having aromatic nasal delights of ripe, tropical fruits, which continue on, for the palate’s enjoyment. I found this to be an ideal ‘towards ending’ or finishing of a dining occasion. When a sparkling wine is required, Monsoon Valley Brut Prestige (11.5% vol) pleases, absolutely. Utilising 100% early-picked Colombard grapes, this sparking production has gained many devotees. I found this wine to be hugely refreshing and to be a perfect accompaniment to fish, salads, seafood, sushi, sashimi, plus white meats and great for celebrations, occasions and parties. For details of all wines from Monsoon Valley Winery, including (easy) ordering and stockists, please visit www.monsoonvalleywine.co.uk www.siamwinery.com

As always, enjoy!

Recipe

Loaded Spuds OCTOBER VIBES

Simple comfort food doesn’t come in a finer form than a baked potato. Perfect as the weather starts to get a little chillier... stuff them with bacon, cheese and soured cream and dig in!

Method

1 Heat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan/gas 7. Rinse the potatoes, then sprinkle all over with sea salt. Put the potatoes directly onto the oven shelf and bake for about 1 hour until crisp on the outside and soft inside when tested with a skewer. Serves 4

Ingredients

4 baking potatoes Sea salt for sprinkling 100g bacon lardons 80g unsalted butter, cubed 80g grated Cheddar, plus an extra 2 tbsp for topping 4 tbsp soured cream, plus extra to serve 1 tbsp chopped chives, plus extra to serve Sourced from www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk

6

D I S C O V E R I N G Whittlesea

2 Meanwhile, fry the bacon lardons in a non-stick frying pan until crisp. 3 Once the potatoes are ready, turn the oven to grill, remove the potatoes from the oven and transfer to a baking tray. Slice off the tops (hold the potatoes steady using a clean tea towel), then carefully scoop the soft potato centres into a bowl. Add the butter, 80g cheese and soured cream to the bowl and mix well. Stir in the chives and lardons, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Stuff the cheesy filling back into the potato shells, then top with the extra cheese. 4 Grill the potatoes for 10 minutes until golden and bubbling hot. Serve with the extra soured cream and chives.

HELEN’S STORY: From ‘diet starts on Monday’ to taking back control...

F

or years, Helen had been caught in the familiar cycle of ‘diet starts Monday’ — only for it to finish by Tuesday.

She knew she wanted to lose weight, but something needed to change. That turning point came during a routine appointment with her nurse, when Helen was told she was pre-diabetic. It was the wake-up call she needed. Helen was also living with an underactive thyroid, making her weight-loss journey something she knew wouldn't always be easy. Additionally, she had been diagnosed with fatty liver, another reason she knew it was time to take control of her health and make lasting changes. Her best friend had been telling her about Slimming World for years, so in March 2026, Helen decided to take that first step and join. From the beginning, something clicked and Helen has lost weight every single week since joining. She attends the group every week because she values the encouragement, support and motivation

that come from being surrounded by people who understand the journey. She has embraced Slimming World’s activity programme and become much more active, using every resource available to her – Slimming World books, the magazine, the app and, most importantly, the people around her. Helen’s confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing have increased dramatically and for the first time in her life, she genuinely feels in control of the choices she makes, rather than feeling that food is in control of her. Most importantly, Helen has seen her hard work translate into positive changes to her health and has now lost an incredible three stone, but perhaps her biggest achievement is the change in the way she thinks and feels about herself. Her journey from ‘diet starts Monday’ to taking control of her relationship with food is truly inspirational.

Coles

CELEBRATES MAJOR MILESTONE

I

t may be Laura and Phillip’s second year as new owners of Cole’s Barbers, but they will be celebrating a much bigger milestone as Cole’s Barbers will be celebrating seventy years!

Many families and generations have walked through the doors of Cole’s Barbers throughout the years, and it will be no shock as this wellestablished business has been running for seventy years. So let me tell you where this all started… Les Cole began barbering in 1956 in Syers Lane, Whittlesey. Becoming established over the years, he then moved to Market Street, taking over the premises that Len Templeman had previously kept as a barber. This is where the business thrived, with Les’s wife Molly owning the shoe shop next door, knocking on the wall when it was time for teas and coffees to be made. It wasn't long before their two boys would join Les in the trade, firstly Ken in 1966 at twelve years old, then followed by Dave (Butch) in 1971, also aged twelve at the time. It soon became a family-run business, with the boys helping out by lathering up for wet shaves before Les came over with the cut throat. The boys took the customers' money, and customers were often too shy to ask for ‘something for the weekend,’ as, before the days of pharmacies, the barbers would sell everything from tobacco, razors to little matchbox cars. Times became tough through the years as styles changed thanks to celebrity influence. Long hair became popular, and the shop saw a significant drop in customers, which lasted five-fourteen years and became worrying times; even Les thought about a different trade at this point. Luckily for everyone, they all stuck it out, and styles like perms, inspired by Chris Waddle and Kevin Keegan, emerged. Soon came Michael Owen and David Beckham, and this trend continues to this day.

Ken and Butch worked together with a team by their side from 1991 until 2002 when Butch moved on, leaving Ken and the team to carry on the legacy. It wasn’t easy for Ken; all of a sudden, he didn’t have his dad or brother by his side cutting hair, engaging in daily banter, and sharing business worries. But fast forward to the present, with a team by his side and a wonderful family at home, he made it through the years, customers becoming friends, and meeting generations. As he started to slow down, the prospect of retirement became more realistic. The final piece to the puzzle was when Phillip started in 2023. A perfect business partnership that Ken was hoping for. Ken was able to retire at the age of seventy and is loving every minute with his family and friends. Kathy, his wife, hasn’t stopped smiling; she felt the day would never come. From Laura, Phillip, and the team at Cole’s, we wish the original Cole’s the very happiest seventieth birthday. Here’s to the next seventy! Why not pop in to see how they will celebrate, or follow them on Facebook and see what they're up to?

The final move came in 1991 when Cole’s Barbers moved to the premises people know now. Les worked for a few months before enjoying his retirement with his wife Molly and letting their boys take Cole’s into the next generation. 12

A HOUSE SALE CHAIN ISN’T SOMETHING TO BE AFRAID OF...

W

hen you hear that your house sale is part of a chain, it can sound worrying. But first, what actually is a house sale chain?

A chain is simply a group of property transactions linked together. You may be selling your home to somebody who also needs to sell theirs, while you are buying from somebody who is moving on too. Each sale depends, to some extent, on the others’ progressing. That sounds complicated, but it is completely normal. What matters is not necessarily whether you are in a chain, but how well that chain is monitored and how well everybody communicates. One of the biggest frustrations during a house move is not always the delay itself, it is not knowing why there is a delay.

Sometimes a quick conversation is enough to reassure somebody or explain the next step. We recently completed a Whittlesey sale which received a full asking price offer within two days and then became part of a six-property chain. There were dates to co-ordinate, searches and enquiries to work through and even an electrical issue close to the end. The chain still completed successfully.

Your buyer may be completely ready, but somebody further up the chain could still be waiting for searches, enquiries or a mortgage offer. The important part was not that nothing ever cropped up. It was that when it did, That does not automatically mean there is a everybody knew what was happening, who problem, it simply means the right people need needed to act and what came next. to know what is outstanding, who is dealing with it and what needs to happen next.

At Cannon & Co, we map the chain and keep in touch with buyers, sellers, solicitors and other agents where needed, so we can understand the wider picture rather than only looking at one sale in isolation. Being available matters too. A buyer may have a question after work. A seller may receive an email from their solicitor in the evening and immediately worry about what it means.

So, if you are buying or selling and find yourself in a chain, do not automatically assume that is bad news.

Good communication, regular monitoring and having somebody available to keep an eye on the bigger picture can make a huge difference. For more straightforward advice about buying, selling and moving home, head over to www.cannonandco.uk and take a look through our latest blogs and property guides.

From Fight or Flight to Calm:

Helping Your Nervous System Feel Safe Again

W

hen life feels relentlessly busy, the nervous system can remain on high alert. Even without immediate danger, the body may respond as though it needs to protect us. During fight or flight, stress chemicals such as adrenaline and cortisol are released. Heart rate rises, breathing quickens, muscles tense, and digestion slows as energy shifts towards survival. This response protects us in emergencies, but frequent activation can leave us anxious, exhausted, irritable, disconnected, or struggling to relax. As the body senses safety, the parasympathetic nervous system supports rest and recovery. Breathing slows, the heart settles, and digestion improves, allowing space for repair and restoration. A regulated nervous system does not mean never feeling stressed. It means being more able to recover, respond thoughtfully, and return to

Consumer Advice Think About Winter-proofing Your Home Before the Cold Snap Bites By Eileen Le Voi at Safe Local Trades Now is a great time to winter-proof your property with a series of checks and actions. Safe Local Trades can offer experts at the touch of a button across the PE area to help make your home awesome in autumn and ward off the worries of winter. By preparing your property, both inside and out, you can save on effort, energy, and be kind to your pocket. Here is a pre-winter maintenance checklist for your home and garden which could avoid a November nightmare or December disaster; with our Safe Local Trades members offering rescue and remedy: • Check all external pipes. Blocked or leaking pipes can freeze during the cold months, then expand and burst – causing potentially expensive water damage. • Think about insulation. A properly insulated property is an absolute must. Make sure that you check the basics, starting with obvious draft points. Invest in a draft excluder to keep doors and windows secure. Check the cladding around your boiler and pipes and make sure that taps don’t leak. • Bleed your radiators. A great way to warm up your property is to bleed the radiators. This releases any trapped air, allowing hot water to fill every part of your radiator and warm the property more efficiently. • Get a boiler service. Arrange for a professional to service your boiler each year. As everyone starts to switch on or boost their central heating, the surge in gas consumption can lead to a big increase in boiler breakdowns. • Clear out your gutters. In autumn, leaves can collect in gutters and drains, leading to blocks and overflows – so it’s best to clean them regularly. Consider investing in gutter leaf guards to help prevent your gutters becoming blocked in future. Meanwhile, here’s a seasonal maintenance checklist: • Check the stopcock is working. • Check the window frames and doors are sealed well. • Use draft excluders under doorways and around letterboxes. • Clean and put away any outside furniture. • Inspect the roof for damage or leaks that could worsen over the winter. • Ensure all locks, security lights, and alarm systems are working properly. • Check there are no leaks in the guttering joints when it’s raining. Is Your Legacy Well-Prepared? Understanding Inheritance Planning By Ashlie Barnard When it comes to planning for the future, inheritance is often something that’s left to the backburner. But if you want to ensure that your wealth is passed on to loved ones in the best possible way, it’s important to take a closer look at inheritance planning. Inheritance planning isn’t just about drafting a will; it’s about understanding the bigger picture – how your assets will be transferred, the impact of Inheritance Tax, and how to protect your family’s financial future. Without the right planning in place, your estate could be exposed to unnecessary costs, and your loved ones might not inherit what you intend. At Nene Financial Planning, we focus on helping people in March navigate the often complex world of inheritance planning. We take the time to understand your goals and ensure your wealth is transferred in a way that reflects your wishes. It’s not about pushing financial products, but about creating a plan that delivers the right outcomes for you and your family. If you haven’t looked at your inheritance plan in a while, now’s the perfect time to have a conversation.

What our clients say: “The information and advice that Ashlie gave me was exceptional. She was really patient, answering all my questions and was happy to explain the figures more than once until I had fully understood them. Following my meetings with Ashlie, I came away much better informed and would definitely recommend her to friends and family.” “We spent a very useful morning with Ashlie as we made plans for the future of our family farm – she really knew her stuff and was able to give us plenty of advice about the different options open to us. We were very impressed and reassured. We look forward to working with her as we move on with the next stage of our future proofing.” “Ashlie and her team were helpful and professional throughout the whole process. The information was extremely helpful and we will be using their services again in the future.” If you have a ‘when can I? or ‘how can I?’ question, then get in touch with our friendly team in complete confidence on (01354) 278088 or book online at www.nenefinancial.co.uk

Your Garden

T

SPONSORED BY THE SHED SHOP

here’s still plenty to do this month, including harvesting late crops, planting for next year and improving the soil.

The most important job, when beds become vacant, is improving your soil. Healthy, nutrient-rich soil lays the foundation for thriving plants, abundant harvests, and a vibrant ecosystem. Adding organic matter like manure or leaf mould helps with the soil structure and slowly releases nutrients. It also enhances the soil’s capability to retain water and air- crucial for good root development and uptake of nutrients. Fresh manure should not be used until it has been composted and never put fresh manure around edibles. Potatoes and beetroot should all be harvested now. although carrots can be left in the ground it is probably advisable to lift them. Potatoes should be stored in paper or jute sacks in a dark, dry, frost-free environment Carrots can be stored by spreading a layer of sand in a box and laying them on the sand, avoid them touching, and then cover them completely with another layer of sand, repeat until the box is full and then cover. You can also successfully keep root vegetables, except potatoes, in the ground by covering the roots with a layer of straw to protect the plants from frost. Crops that can be sown this month are: • Japanese over-wintering onion sets. • Last chance to transplant spring cabbages – be sure to net them to prevent pigeons eating the young leaves.

• Broad beans – early varieties should overwinter. • Sow a pot of basil seeds and put in a propagator or on a warm windowsill, keeping the soil moist. Parsley and mint can be dug up from an established clump, put in a pot and kept on the windowsill – much cheaper than buying pots from the supermarket! Other jobs for this month include: • Continue to earth up celery and leeks. • Check the condition of last year’s fleece, cloches and winter protection so that you can plan for any cold spells that may be imminent. • Protect cauliflowers by bending a leaf over the curd. • Finish pruning blackberries and raspberries. • Keep removing yellow leaves from brassicas – leaving them on the ground risks spreading grey mould. • If you have not already done so earth up, or stake (or both) Brussels sprouts and sprouting broccoli plants. • Pick the unripe tomatoes and put a few in a bag with a ripe banana – this gives off ethylene gas which speeds ripening. • Cut back asparagus and artichoke foliage and compost. • Remove runner bean canes: if left in the ground they will easily rot.

Happy gardening!

MAYOR’S MESSAGE After a damp start, the Whittlesey Festival Day was a great success. I hope visitors and locals alike enjoyed it, Alex Miscandlon I know I did, and everyone I spoke to said they had and thanked Whittlesey for putting on a great day. Although I accepted their thanks it was not down to me but the team of volunteers who gave up their time to produce such a great day, plus the sponsors who gave the funds to give all the rides free on the day for the children.

PEGGY CELEBRATES MAJOR MILESTONE

Thanks must also go to Fenland District Council for their time and effort and staff provided for the day. But the biggest thanks must go to the locals and visitors who turned out to make a good day GREAT. Also thank you from me as the Mayor of Whittlesey. Regards, Alex Miscandlon

Congratulations to Cedar Court resident Peggy who has celebrated her 100th birthday. She celebrated in style in Whittlesey surrounded by family and friends and enjoyed a party with entertainment by The Singing Gardener and of course lots of tea and cake. Peggy shared her secret for a long and happy life, saying: "Smile and just get on with it.”

HORTICULTURAL SHOW’S BLOOMING GREAT

Not only was the Whittlesey Festival centre stage at St Andrew's Hall, but it was also the Early Flower and Vegetable Show organised by the Peterborough Horticultural Show with many great entries from young and old. The society was founded in 1884, and the next event is the Late Chrysanthemum and Vegetable Show on Sunday, November 1st at the same venue 2pm-4.30pm. Photo: courtesy RWT Photography/Radio Fenland

READING CHALLENGE IS A SUCCESS STORY It was certificates galore at Whittlesey Library. Read to the Beat was this year’s Summer Reading Challenge as children collected six stickers by reading books during the summer holidays. Each book they read earned a star which in turn earned a certificate, a nice medal, and a bag. Under 3s received a golden sticker.

FOOTBALL FUNDRAISER RAISES £1K Whittlesey Athletic Under 12s held a fundraising day at the Black Bull in Whittlesey, with the squad looking after the stalls and £1000 being raised. Special thanks were given to the Round Table for its support.

Library manager for Wisbech and Whittlesey Jakki Racey said: "There were increased numbers of children taking part in Fenland and we would like to thank the young volunteer helpers and Whittlesey Town Council for their support.” The Mayor of Whittlesey Cllr Alex Miscandlon presented all the awards and was delighted with the scheme and congratulated all those who succeeded in the challenge. FOOD WASTE RECYCLING STARTS

Households across Fenland are now filling their food waste recycling caddies with 44 tonnes recycled in the first week of service. Fenland District Council has started its first food waste collections after delivering more than 90,000 caddies to over 45,000 homes across the district, together with a roll of indoor caddy liners and an instruction leaflet. Cllr Steve Tierney, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder for waste and recycling, said: “Our food is for eating, not for wasting, but every meal leaves a little something behind – and when it’s recycled, it can do something remarkable. It produces energy to power homes and businesses, and fertiliser for our farmers. “Residents will notice the benefits at home too. With weekly collections, there’ll be more room in your green bin and fewer smells as food will no longer be sitting in your green bin for longer periods.” If you’ve not received your food waste caddies, email foodwaste@fenland.gov.uk or call (01354) 654321 to arrange delivery. You can find more information on the service, including FAQs, what goes in the caddy, and how food waste is recycled, at: fenland.gov.uk/foodwaste

BETTER MARKS FOR SCHOOLS

P

By Steve Barclay MP

rogress sometimes comes slowly. Yet when it comes it can be clear cut. That is the case with the independent, and highly respected, international assessment of maths and reading ability in schools (known as the PISA ranking).

Every three years, this study compares the educational standards of different countries. The most recent report shows significant improvement in England – from 25th in reading and 27th in maths in 2009, to internationally being ranked ninth in reading and tenth in maths in 2026. This is in marked contrast to Scotland – which dropped from 15th to 22nd in reading and 21st to 31st in maths over the same time period, and Wales which now sits at fortieth internationally for reading and 42nd in maths in the same international rankings. This staggering contrast in outcomes reflects the Conservative Government’s education reforms introduced after 2010 in England, which were blocked in Scotland by the SNP and in Wales by Labour. Progress has also been evident on another issue, with the prosecution now announced of those responsible for a serious pollution incident near Whittlesey in September 2024, which killed around one thousand fish. It is an issue I have raised repeatedly in Parliament, followed up in my meeting with the water minister, and with the Environment Agency directly. So, I welcome that they have now confirmed they will be prosecuting Anglian Water for this major pollution.

In contrast to this welcome news, the reports emerging from local health leaders continue to cause alarm. It has now been confirmed that a review was started in July 2026, which is due to report in October, looking at health services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. Media reports suggest significant cuts are being considered, including the possible removal of intensive care, the downgrading of A&E to a nurse‑led Minor Injuries Unit, and threats to maternity services. The day after the reports were made public, I had an urgent meeting with the Chief Executive, Professor Dwyer who is responsible for the QEH, King’s Lynn and overseeing this review, and made clear both my opposition and that of the wider community. Coming on top of recent cuts at the North Cambs Hospital site – where I revealed from research that more than a quarter of treatments were reduced in the past year – it is understandable that many people are alarmed. I will continue to make clear these concerns. Finally, I continue to raise the concerns of motorists with Cambridgeshire County Council regarding the shocking state of local roads. Benwick Road is one of many local examples – we had to get our tape measure out to measure the cracks because they were so wide! Whilst the county council tell me the hot summer has exacerbated the problem, the real issue is their prioritisation of roads in Cambridge and south Cambridgeshire. I will continue to highlight this issue to them – including the risk to motorcyclists – given the dangers and damage caused by the terrible state of local roads.

If the Government u-turning on a retrograde step counts as progress, we have also seen positive movement on local government reform. These botched reforms were deeply unpopular locally, as it risked Fenland being saddled with Peterborough City Council’s debt, and the potential loss of free local car parking. The Government announced in Parliament last month that the reform has been scrapped – at least for now.

The club’s regular volunteer-run public taster evenings and open days at events such as the Big Bash also continue, giving anyone interested the chance to come in and try target shooting. The club understands that Fenland District Council remains committed to the redevelopment and to providing it with a new building, with ambitions for the new facility to help Whittlesey become a regional centre of excellence for shooting. Changes to the wider leisure centre design mean the final funding decision is now expected later in the year, pushing the likely start of the project back. However, the uncertainty has not stopped the club looking forward or continuing to widen its role in the community. July brought another reminder of just how far the sport can take you. Club president and Paralympic champion Matt Skelhon returned from the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Novi Sad, Serbia with two silver medals, continuing an extraordinary career at the highest level of the sport. Just a couple of weeks later, youngsters from Phoenix Youth Provision visited the club to try target shooting for themselves. Under the guidance of experienced club volunteers, they quickly got the hang of it, with some excellent scores along 46

LOCAL GOVERNMENT REORGANISATION ON HOLD The Government has announced that its national Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) programme and timetable is on pause and under review.

Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Angela Rayner has confirmed in Parliament that ministers will review plans for LGR, following updated and privileged legal advice. An announcement on the future of local government in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough had been expected this month, with proposed new unitary authorities expected to replace current district, city and county councils in April 2028. As part of the review, the Government has confirmed that local elections will go ahead in May 2027 based on existing council boundaries so normal Fenland District Council elections will take place next year. The review includes decisions on reorganisation in Essex, Hampshire, Norfolk and Suffolk being withdrawn in light of new legal advice. Plans for fourteen further areas announced in July 2026 will also be reviewed, alongside the two areas yet to be confirmed – Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and West Sussex. At this stage, no timeline has been set for when the review will conclude or what future proposals for Cambridgeshire may look like. 52

WHERE THERE’S A WILL… Almost three quarters of adults in the East of England risk leaving loved ones without clear instructions about their final wishes, new research has revealed. A new poll commissioned by charity will-writing campaign, Will Aid has found 71% of adults in the region either do not have a will or admit the one they have is out of date. The research, released to mark the opening of appointments for the Will Aid 2026 campaign, found 60% of people in the area have never made a will, while a further 11% admit their existing will no longer reflects their current circumstances or wishes.
