First of all, huge congratulations go to our eldest son, Will and his bride, Emily who made July 9th their very special day, getting married in idyllic surrounds in Northamptonshire. Everything went smoothly and, of course, the sun couldn’t help but shine on the loving couple, (slap bang in the middle of a 32 degree plus heatwave!)
Not wishing to be outdone, younger brother, Ed got a big fat “Yes” when he asked Elissa to be his wife in July – even more hearty congratulations go to them both.
Those longed-for summer holidays are now here and, for the first time in years, our area is subject to a hosepipe ban. Hopefully, you are all coping with these high temperatures and, if youngsters are involved, you’re managing to keep them and yourself COOL, in more ways than one! Soon be September and back to school!!

As the second heatwave of the summer continues, the way it divides opinions remains a source of amusement. Some, who would spend a fortune to fly to their holiday destination for the sun complain that it’s too hot; others grin and bear it stoically, some even removing their jumpers along the way!
On July 30th, 1966, the immortal phrase, “They think it’s all over … it is now!” became synonymous with England football’s greatest moment, winning the 1966 World Cup. Sadly, for England fans those same words have come back to haunt us, losing in the semi-final to Argentina. It might get you thinking (but not singing!) “Wonder … when”?
And finally:
➡ If you’re ever attacked by a mob of clowns, go for the juggler.
➡ My teachers told me I'd never amount to much because I procrastinate so much. I told them, "Just you wait!"
Enjoy the read!

Journeying across Britain, from West Penwith and Avebury to the Lake District and Orkney, “Stone Lands” uncovers the magic and rich history of our incredible prehistoric standing stones. It conveys the delight that lies in tracking them down, as well as the solace these ancient places offer in times of darkness.
A long-time megalith enthusiast, she found the ancient stones resonated with her more profoundly than ever as she faced the prospect of losing her husband to cancer. This enthralling memoir is ultimately about embracing life, joy and ancient wonder.

BY FRANCISCO GARCIA
Three women were brutally murdered between early 1968 and late 1969, each after a night dancing at Glasgow’s infamous Barrowland Ballroom. Their murders were linked and ascribed to the spectre of the well-dressed, scripture-quoting killer who had apparently stalked the city’s dancehalls. The figure was never caught or identified. In “We All Go into the Dark”, Francisco Garcia delves into how ‘Bible John’ has morphed across generations, and interrogates our collective obsession with ‘solving’ historic crimes.

When we were invited to ‘start’ the Tractor Run I had images of Judi waving two flags in the air, wearing a Ra-Ra skirt! Luckily for everyone, that proved not to be needed, and it was great to wave off a procession of tractors on a journey through Bourne and surrounding villages.
The purpose was to “honour the memory of Darren”, just a regular man who was adored by his family and respected by his friends, and to raise money for charity. Hopefully, you may have seen them as they proceeded, gave them a wave and even donated. And people do. When asked to respond to any cause that is placed in front of us, we are happy to respond.
When you read this, many of you will have attended the Festival on the Wellhead, organised every year by the Round Table and, hopefully, will have had a jolly good time, sampling the beer, trying to stop the kids costing you too much on rides and, most importantly, listening to the bands, many of them local ones. The Round Table, represented by our local group are amazing, as they turn up every year and organise an amazing festival. Historically, they have supported the Butterfield Centre and, more recently, gave a donation that enabled the Skatepark to come into existence. People want to contribute.

My featured Community Group this month, and designated charity for the year, is the Carers Sitter Service. We need to remind ourselves that this organisation exists and is so necessary. It provides a home sitting service for people who are practically housebound because of the care they provide for dependent relatives and friends.

As a community, we need them doing what they selflessly do, day in and day out. We can help them, either by donation or by giving an hour or two to spend time with a new potential friend. By being there, you would allow someone to fulfil an appointment, go to the hairdressers, or just have a break.
If you feel you can help, please contact either Paula or Sara on 01778 420 257 or carersitterservice@ gmail.com.

My name is Helen Constanti, and I’ve recently launched TCM Bridge Ltd, a business dedicated to helping small and medium-sized business owners gain confidence in using Xero and, more importantly, in understanding the financial information that drives better business decisions.
Having spent more than twenty years working in finance across a range of industries, I’ve seen first-hand how many business owners feel overwhelmed by bookkeeping, software and financial reporting. It’s rarely because they lack ability. More often, they’ve simply never had someone sit alongside them, explain things in plain English and give them the confidence to take control.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked across accounting, systems implementation, training, coaching and mentoring. The part I’ve always enjoyed most has been helping business owners understand their numbers, improve their processes and use financial information to make better decisions for growth.
That’s exactly why I created TCM Bridge.
Rather than simply teaching people how to use Xero, I work alongside business owners to help them build efficient bookkeeping processes, improve cash flow visibility and feel confident managing the financial side of their business.

hite wines are a favourite with many people. Whether a preference is for a dry production, medium or sweeter delectation, white wines can be enjoyed by themselves (perhaps during a quiet moment), but also make ideal accompaniments to numerous dishes of cuisine, complementing the flavours of foods. Sparkling productions are hugely popular too.

GELBER MUSKATELLER (12% vol) comes from Austria. This dry Muscat white wine has been carefully chosen for the ‘Loved & Found’ range of wines. Flowers and fruits are appreciated on the nose and in the flavour. I found this wine to be both elegant and fresh, for the mouthfeel and the palate’s sensation.
Villa Maria wine productions (founded 1961) is a wellrenowned, multi award-winning New Zealand brand of wines.
VILLA MARIA MARLBOROUGH
SAUVIGNON BLANC (12% vol) has proved its popularity over many years. Overtones of gooseberry, passion fruit and lime are very much evident in this classic delectation, which accompanies fish/seafood and salad dishes admirably. For further information, including tastings, experiences, winery tours and more, please visit their website.
Another Sauvignon Blanc production that gained my
attention was No.1 NEW ZEALAND SAUVIGNON BLANC (13% vol), which is produced in partnership with the highly respected Astrolabe winery, utilising grapes grown in the Awatere Valley, reputed to be one of the best areas in New Zealand for Sauvignon Blanc grape productions. Crisp and with a splendid mouthfeel, plus an extended finish, for the palate’s delight, I rated this wine as a fantastic accompaniment to white meats, fish dishes and salads.
For a sparkling white wine (it doesn’t always have to be Champagne) DENBIES WHITEDOWNS BRUT (12.5% vol) does not disappoint in any way. This production is extremely popular when a ‘sparkler’ is required. Fresh ripe fruits, for the mouth’s pleasures, put this crisp wine amongst the leaders for English sparkling wine productions. For more details, of all Denbies wines, including award winners, plus other offerings, tastings, events, tours, hotel, receptions and weddings, please visit their website.
I located these wines at a Waitrose store where staff are always available to offer knowledgeable advice if/ when required: www.waitrose.com www.villamariawines.com www.denbies.co.uk

ost people hope that their estate will pass on to their loved ones eventually. But this will not happen for many unless careful arrangements have been made to protect their assets from being taken towards the end of their life to pay for care home fees.
The solution to help protect your estate is a will incorporating a Property Protection Trust (PPT). A testamentary PPT can only be executed whilst both partners remain alive. Upon death of the first partner, their will specifies that their share of the property is placed into trust and names the ultimate beneficiary of this share, normally the children of the deceased.

The surviving partner, under the terms of the trust, has the unequivocal right to remain living in the property for the rest of their life. On the death of

the second partner the trust comes to an end, and the property passes to the beneficiaries. As the surviving partner does not own the deceased's share of the property it is fully protected for the beneficiaries, so if the surviving partner requires care, or even remarries, this share of the children's inheritance is protected.
This last point can be of particular interest to couples who have come together but have children from different partners. A PPT can help each person in a relationship ensure that their children inherit their share of the property, while giving their surviving partner the ability to live in the property for the rest of their life. If the surviving partner wants to move to another property, they can still sell the property and the proceeds be used to purchase a new property; the terms of the trust remain over the new property.
Westminster Law will assess your current circumstances and arrange the trust that will provide the best protection for you, your family and your assets.

When the bells of Witham on the Hill were re hung after the death of King George IV in 1830, villagers found something unexpected.
The new treble bell, paid for by local landowner William Augustus Johnson, carried a poem, a warning and a political statement all at once. It listed the days the bell must never ring. This was a striking gesture from a man whose life was quietly respectable in the manner associated with the Georgian gentry.
At the Old Town Hall in Bourne, our “Town Hall Histories” project has been uncovering the stories behind the people who shaped the building. Among the 122 subscribers who funded the Town Hall’s construction in 1821, Johnson stands out. Only six donors gave £100 or more, and he was one of them; a sign of how closely his life was tied to the place.
A military man in his youth, Johnson later became Chairman of the Magistrates for Kesteven, presiding over the Quarter Sessions at the Town Hall for thirty-two years. His wealth and influence came from the Witham on the Hill estate, inherited from his paternal uncle in 1814, but his connections stretched further. On his mother’s side, his uncle was Lord William Craven—the man who built the original Craven Cottage in 1780, now the long standing home of Fulham Football Club.

Despite his status, Johnson’s personal life took a surprising turn. He married unusually late in life; at fifty-seven, he wed Lucy Foster, the teenage daughter of Rev Kingsman Foster of Dowsby, who also appears among the Town Hall’s subscribers. Their age gap was remarkable even for the era, yet together they went on to have nine children.
Johnson’s political convictions were equally distinctive. A committed Liberal, he once stood for parliament, but it is the inscription on the Witham bell that preserves his views most vividly. Its final lines forbid ringing on May 29th, November 5th, or on the crowning of a king—an enduring reminder of the principles he held dear.
Through stories like his, the Town Hall’s history becomes not just architectural, but deeply human— full of character, conviction and the unexpected.

* Jane is engaged with the Bourne Old Town Hall project, part of which has been to investigate the donors listed on the board that had pride of place and will once again adorn the renovated Old Town Hall when complete.

Foot Bliss Bourne is a predominantly clinic-based foot care service, although home visits are available within Bourne and the surrounding villages.
Nicola London understands the pressure we put on our feet and the damage that everyday wear and tear can have on our overall foot health, from her long experience as a runner. Foot care is for everyone, young and old. It is important to maintain good foot health at an early age to avoid complications later in life.
Good foot health involves you looking out for: any changes to your feet, both physical changes and pain; cracked, dry skin; sore ingrown toenails; and thickened and discoloured nails, which could indicate a fungal condition. Diabetics should take extra care, as any changes could be an early indication that there is an underlying issue.
From her welcoming, relaxing clinic, based in Burchnell Gardens in Bourne, Nicola’s treatments include fungal nails, thickened nails, verrucae, ingrown toenails, general foot health and nail trimming, diabetic foot health assessments, neuropathy testing, corn removal, and callus reduction.
All Nicola asks is that “You bring only yourself and your medical history to the clinic; I do the rest while you sit back and relax and enjoy a complimentary foot massage at the end of your treatment. Many clients comment that they leave feeling they are walking on air!” There is currently capacity for new clients and Nicola is happy to discuss any foot health concerns that you may have.

When it comes to hearing care, experience and understanding go hand in hand – and few people appreciate that more than audiologist Suzanne Stevenson.
Having qualified in 2002, Suzanne has spent more than twenty years helping people overcome hearing loss and rediscover the sounds that make life so special. She has recently led the hearing care service at Sound Advice Hearing’s King’s Lynn branch but is now delighted to be caring for patients closer to home at the Market Deeping clinic, where she lives.
What makes Suzanne’s approach especially unique is her own personal experience. Having developed hearing loss herself over the years, she understands first-hand the emotions, questions and adjustments that can come with wearing hearing aids.

“I know what it’s like to be on that journey,” says Suzanne. “That’s why I always take the time to

listen, understand each person’s concerns and make sure they feel supported every step of the way.”
At Sound Advice Hearing, Suzanne offers free hearing tests, expert independent advice and personalised aftercare. Because the practice is independent, recommendations are based entirely on what’s best for each individual, rather than being limited to one manufacturer.
For Suzanne, improving someone’s hearing isn’t just about technology – it’s about restoring confidence, reconnecting families, and helping people enjoy the conversations and moments that matter most.

Serotonin is the “happy chemical” within us; it’s a neurotransmitter involved in many processes throughout our body such as –
◆ Creating a happy mood, promoting positive feelings and behaviour.
◆ Regulating anxiety levels and our ability to cope.
◆ Enabling smooth digestion and bowel movements.
◆ Creating good quality of sleep by regulating circadian rhythms.
◆ Improving memory and our ability to learn.
◆ Regulating appetite.
◆ Helping to maintain a healthy nervous system.
Serotonin is also destroyed by having a low mood, low interactions with others, lack of movement, as well as alcohol and smoking.
Approximately 95% of the serotonin in our body is produced in our gastrointestinal tract. The other 5% is produced by our central nervous system. This is why alcohol is so damaging to our serotonin levels as it goes straight to our gut, and it takes approximately three days to get back to normal levels of serotonin again.
1
Increase foods which contain tryptophan (an amino acid which is converted to serotonin in our brain), which can be found in high protein foods such as turkey, salmon and beef. If these are taken with some carbohydrates, it helps serotonin reach our brains more effectively.

2
Exercise raises serotonin by helping to release tryptophan into our blood.
3
Natural light increases serotonin. Research suggests that serotonin is often lower after winter and higher in the summer due to the amount of sunlight we get which can cause ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’.
4
‘Forest therapy’ has been found to also increase our levels of serotonin.
5
Socialise more and laugh a lot!

We have celebrated another outstanding year of scholarship success at Witham Hall, with this year's leavers securing an impressive seventeen scholarships and awards to leading senior schools, including Eton College, Oakham School, Oundle School, Rugby School, Stamford School and Uppingham School.
The breadth of achievement was just as impressive as the number of awards, with scholarships gained across academic, sporting and artistic disciplines. Special congratulations go to Archie, who was awarded the prestigious Eton
Annah Shaw Scholarship for Classics, recognising the strongest performance in Latin and Greek among candidates not elected as King's Scholars. This is the second consecutive year that the scholarship has been awarded to a Witham pupil.

Many congratulations to all our scholarship recipients, and we wish all our Year 8 leavers every success as they begin an exciting new chapter at their chosen senior schools.
Choosing a new bathroom involves understanding your bathing needs, but there is a variety of options to consider when deciding to alter your bathroom.
One option is to replace your bath with a low-level shower; this is suited to those with limited mobility and who struggle to step into a traditional bath. Slip-resistant shower trays are available in various sizes, and accessories like shower seats mean you can relax and let the water wash over you. Grab rails provide further safety, and they come in a variety of modern designs, so they won’t make your bathroom feel clinical.
However, some people still prefer having a bath to a shower so this is when we would recommend a walk-in bath. These are available in various sizes and come with moulded seats (sometimes heated), quick fill and drain options, and some even have jacuzzi functions to help ease aches and pains.
The third option is a wet room which eliminates obstacles, with slip-resistant flooring and a central drain, making them ideal for wheelchair users and caregivers. However, they can be more costly.
It can be overwhelming knowing which solution to choose, but at Living Well Bathrooms by AHM Installations, we have a friendly team of home surveyors who will visit you at home to discuss your bathing needs. We provide FREE quotations and visuals of how your new bathroom could look. At AHM we believe everyone should have access to safe, affordable bathing so we’ll always find a solution to meet your needs and your budget.

The biggest worry for Bourne Town Council’s Events Team before our now annual ‘Picnic in the Park’ is the weather. Would there be a Labrador doing backstroke in a rain-soaked Wellhead Park this year? We needn’t have worried … the weather was perfect and heralded the almost constant heatwave we’ve had since.

This joint venture with Bourne United Charities was a fantastic way to start our summer celebrations in Bourne. An immaculate Wellhead Park was full of stalls, fair rides and complemented by a day’s entertainment from a stage that had a set list full of local performers. Opened by Bourne’s Town Crier with a little help from

the Mayor, the day was compered brilliantly by Discovering Magazines’ Claire Saberton.
At the Red Hall, there was the usual car show organised by the Lincolnshire MG Club with the guest appearance of a BRM racing car. Although all the cars are the stars of this part of the Picnic, credit must go to the designated “Best in Show”,

an early ’60s Ford Cortina; how many of us I wonder had one of those in the family?
The Red Hall also hosted craft stalls, whilst it and the Darby and Joan Hall provided a very welcome cuppa. Huge thanks and credit to all the sponsors and organisers who made the event happen and be such a success.
As always, the people who really made the day such the success were the families and people of Bourne who came, contributed, and got involved in this community picnic. My particular highlight, late in the afternoon, was watching two toddlers chase each other silly whilst their mum sat on the grass and chatted to a friend. They’ll sleep well tonight I thought!

Bourne Town Council would like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors for a most enjoyable and successful 2026 Picnic In The Park.

In this very hot and dry period it will be more about watering and harvesting than planting and keeping the weeds at bay (which in the drier months should be less prolific!)
August is the month when you “reap what you have sown!”; all that hard work in the spring and early summer months should now be paying dividends. There are still one or two crops that you can sow – Japanese onion seeds (in situ) and a last batch of carrots and turnips.
However, as you harvest your crops and create some space, you can transplant winter and spring cauliflowers, sprouting broccoli, Brussels sprouts and kale. Cabbage seeds can be planted in a temporary bed or in pots or modules.
Other jobs for this month:
• Prune gooseberry and currant bushes
• Cut to the ground all raspberry canes that have borne fruit this year and tie in the new green canes that will produce next year’s fruit.
• If you wish to store garlic, onions and shallots, they will need to be thoroughly dried out by lifting them carefully and laying them on the ground in the sun or spreading them out on racks. They can then be strung and hung but not in the kitchen as the atmosphere is too moist; somewhere cool and dry is advisable.

• Pinch out the tops of climbing beans when they reach the top of the canes as this will encourage growth lower down and harvest regularly before they become tough and stringy.
• Make sure that you harvest crops such as courgettes, runner and French beans regularly before they grow too large and stringy – the more you pick the more you get!
• Strawberry runners that have been potted can be transplanted into a sunny, fertile spot where you have not grown them for at least three years. Planting them through plastic will help conserve moisture and provide warmth during the winter.
• Outdoor tomatoes should have their growth stopped by the middle of the month – nip out the leading growing shoot just above the highest truss. Continue pinching out and do not forget to provide support for the plants as they become more heavily laden – also for cucumbers, peppers and even fruit trees,
• Keep earthing up potatoes to prevent the tubers being exposed, and brassicas too to support unsteady stems.
• Dig over any spaces that have been left from harvesting crops, where you could grow green manure such as clover or vetch, which will provide nitrogen for the soil or alfalfa, cress or mustard which will help break up the soil.
Enjoy the fruits of your labour!

When you are brought up in a family which has a long tradition of expertise and success in a particular field, it is often the case that you will soon find your way into “following in dad’s footsteps”.
Wes Buckland, who has recently established WB Roofing Solutions, explained just how he was one such, working amongst family members “on the roofs” in his early teenage years and then making a career of it
Wes is from Market Deeping and very familiar with the local area and in particular, the local suppliers of roofing materials and service providers. It was most encouraging to hear how he insists on “keeping it all local”. This involves using such reputable companies as Castle Roofing Supplies on the Northfields Industrial Estate in Market Deeping, Branch Brothers in Deeping St James and Bourne Skip Hire.
Although his company is only very much in its infancy, Wes can call upon over fifteen years of experience in all aspects of the roofing profession with local firms. It had always been his ambition to start his own business and so, he has now made the decision to go it alone.
WB Roofing Solutions will be able and willing to handle all aspects of domestic roofing work. This means going from tracing and fixing roof leaks, through repairs to existing structures, to installing fascias, soffits and guttering, to specialist ‘torch on mineral felt’ work on flat roofs.

Wes is keen to point out that his firm are part of two highly regarded national networks, designed to give potential customers the confidence to hire someone who they can trust and who will provide a top-quality experience. “Approved Roofers” is a long-established nationwide directory connecting homeowners with local roofing contractors. They verify the insurance and credentials of their members to ensure that you can make your choice of contractor with confidence. In a similar way, “Roofing Networks” provides the means by which roofing contractors can be identified, checked for their credentials and then hired. It gives you, the customer, complete peace of mind and an opportunity to comment on the quality of the work undertaken afterwards.

As a locally owned and operated business, it understands just how important comfort is - whether at home, in the workplace, or anywhere in between.

Sometimes a huge upheaval such as a redundancy can turn out to be the spur needed for a person to decide to “go it alone”. This was certainly the case with Morton resident Steve Lee who was confident enough to recently establish his own company, servicing and maintaining gas and, particularly, oil appliances.
Steve has lived in Morton for twenty-six years with his partner and two sons and can call upon twentythree years of hard-earned experience in the gas and oil appliance installation, maintenance and servicing sector. Much of his earlier work with several large companies was in the South of England. Steve is now focusing on
appliance servicing and maintenance (but not full installations) to customers within the local area but would be more than happy to travel further if required.
Finding a trustworthy and reliable company to install or service heating equipment used to be a challenge, but by becoming OFTEC registered, like Steve is, means that you’re in good safe hands, regarding his competence and trust.

Needless to add, Steve is also on the Gas Safe Register. Besides concentrating on the domestic market, Steve also carries out ‘Landlord Gas Safety Inspections’.
If you would like a gas inspection or service, book an appointment with Steve on 07746 688006.

This month, many of us will be taking a well-earned break and the chances are (and particularly if you have teenagers) that your mobile phone or tablet will be going with you. You may be needing to catch up on work emails or simply want to flood your social media channels with photos of your getaway!
Is your silicone suffering from mould or not looking its best?
Silicone Hero specialises in the removal of old unsightly silicone and resealing with brand new high quality sanitary grade silicone - give your bathroom a new lease of life and keeping it mould-free to avoid costly water damage and leaks.

But how do you look after those devices like laptops and PCs that will most likely be staying at home?
Home insurance and/or travel insurance will cover most cases of theft or accidental damage (be sure to check your policy) but it's still a good practice to take a few simple steps to make sure your devices are as safe as they can be.

• Backup your devices: It’s so simple and it should be something you do regularly anyway but let's be honest, it’s easy to forget. Make it a priority to get everything backed up before you leave. Accidents happen and it’s easy to lose all your important data with just the slip of a hand. Don't just back up to the cloud, consider having a backup to a separate hard drive.
• Update your software: Again, a simple task that’s easily forgotten but can make a huge difference if anything goes wrong. Making sure you have up-todate security software is paramount!
• Secure your devices: Use a PIN, pattern lock or two factor authentication. Don’t forget to add security authentication to your laptops and PC’s.
• Be wary of which Wi-Fi you connect to: It's tempting to connect to any free Wi-Fi when you’re away and save using up your valuable data allowance but really think carefully before connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi. There’s a huge risk that your devices could be hacked, sensitive data stolen or infected with malware.

• Be careful what you share on social media: You might think you’re just making your friends envious with your beach or overseas foodie photos – but if you make it public, you’re away from home any thieves will be able to take advantage of your absence. Now is a great time to check who sees your posts and consider making it private to friends only so you know only those you trust can see where you are.
Safe Local Trades member Ben from File Genie and his team can offer a wealth of advice and support whether updating your software and backing up your devices or if you think your device is not operating correctly. In recent years, interest rates, inflation and the wider economy have all led many homeowners and first-time buyers to adopt a “wait and see” approach. However, we’re now seeing confidence steadily return to the market. Mortgage lenders are becoming increasingly competitive, product choice has improved significantly, and buyers are actively searching for their next home.
Across Bourne and the surrounding villages, rental demand remains exceptionally strong. As a result, rental values have continued to rise, with many tenants now paying significantly more each month.
For those able to purchase, it’s worth asking a simple question: is your monthly rent better invested in your own future rather than someone else’s?
Many landlords are now placing greater value on longterm, reliable tenants rather than simply achieving the highest possible monthly rent. They recognise that a dependable tenant who treats a property as their home, pays on time and commits to a longer tenancy can ultimately provide a better financial return than frequent tenant changes.
As a result, some landlords are offering incentives such as discounted rents or fixed rental increases in exchange for longer-term tenancy agreements. It’s a positive shift that offers greater security for tenants while helping landlords reduce costly void periods and re-letting expenses.
Whether you’re considering buying your first home, moving up the property ladder, downsizing, investing or becoming a landlord, there’s genuine opportunity in today’s market. Having the right advice and an experienced local team behind you can make a real difference.

With a wide variety of mortgage products now available, many buyers are pleasantly surprised to discover that home ownership may be more affordable than they expected.
An independent mortgage adviser can often identify solutions tailored to individual circumstances, making what once felt out of reach a realistic possibility.
The local sales market is equally encouraging. Well-presented homes continue to generate excellent levels of interest, particularly those priced correctly from the outset. Buyers are motivated, viewing numbers remain healthy, and we’re continuing to agree sales across Bourne at all price ranges.
To celebrate what is shaping up to be a busy late-summer market, Newton Fallowell Bourne is offering 20% OFF ALL FEES* for all new instructions agreed during August.

Lisa Thornton explains, “Commercial property is a key driver of economic growth across our region. From businesses expanding into new premises and investors growing their portfolios to landowners exploring diversification opportunities, we’re seeing a wide range of activity across the local area.
Every transaction is different, which is why clients need advisers who understand both the legal complexities and the commercial realities of the local market. We have a team with expertise across every aspect of commercial property so that clients can access specialist advice whatever their objective. We’re proud of the breadth of expertise we’ve built within the team, and look forward to helping even more businesses and investors achieve their ambitions.”

Back in January, I told you about something a little different we had started at W&P Legal: Play & Plan, our soft play and will-writing sessions at The Yard in Stamford, and why, as a mum myself, I understood exactly why “sort out our wills” kept slipping to the bottom of the to-do list. What I didn’t quite expect was just how quickly it would catch on.
Since that first session, we have welcomed families through the doors, watched children tire themselves out on the soft play, and sat down with parents who had been meaning to write their will for years. All of them left with a plan in place, or well on their way to one, and that relief that comes from finally ticking off the thing you had been avoiding.
Feedback has been the best part of running these sessions. A lot of parents have told me how

Telephone: 01778 252301
E-mail: advice@wplegal.co.uk www.wplegal.co.uk
much easier it felt knowing it was a mum on the other side of the table, someone who has lived the same juggle and explains things in plain, jargon-free terms, rather than a solicitor with no idea what your week actually looks like. Add in children happily occupied, and a daunting subject suddenly feels manageable.
A few families instructed us to start their wills there and then. Others took the information away and came back to us afterwards. Either way works; there is no pressure and no obligation.
The honest answer for why it keeps selling out is that Play & Plan solves a problem most willwriting services don’t think about. The obstacle was never really about understanding wills, it was finding thirty uninterrupted minutes and something to occupy the kids. Take those two things off the table, and a daunting task becomes something you can do on a Tuesday morning.
Because of how quickly previous dates have filled up, we have further sessions running, with our next one taking place in August. Each session includes ninety minutes of fully funded soft play for the children, a free, no-obligation thirty-minute will consultation for parents, and time afterwards to relax and enjoy the venue together.
Spaces are limited and go quickly, so if you would like to join us, don’t wait too long. To register your interest and find out our upcoming dates, either email me at meg@wplegal. co.uk, pop me a message on 07890 207432 or Instagram @the_estateplanningmum.

Women across Peterborough and beyond are being invited to take on a unique musical challenge, as the hugely popular Sing for Life project returns, transforming complete beginners into confident singers in just ten weeks.

Launching in September, the project offers around forty local women the chance to discover talents they never knew they had as they take on the experience of a lifetime. No audition. No previous singing experience. Just a willingness to have fun and give it your best shot.
Participants will learn to sing, build confidence, improve their mental wellbeing and experience the thrill of performing in front of a live audience at The Cresset in Peterborough on November 13th. Along the way, they’ll make lasting friendships and help support local families by raising vital funds for charity partner Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
Last year’s project was an enormous success. More than a hundred women

completed the challenge, raising more than £10,000 in sponsorship, while delivering a memorable sell-out performance and proving beyond doubt that singing can genuinely change lives… including your own!
The project begins with relaxed sign-up sessions at the John Mansfield Campus in Peterborough. There’s no audition - just a simple voice test to find out whether your voice is naturally higher or lower, and where it will sit within the group. No judgement, no pressure, just a warm welcome and a chance to meet the team.
Whether you’ve always wanted to sing, are looking for a new challenge, want to meet new people or simply fancy doing something extraordinary this autumn, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to all those who made the 2026 Bourne Festival such a success, specifically our volunteers for their tiresome, yet tireless, hard work, both during the setup and across the weekend; our sponsors, particularly Polyco Healthcare, Anglia
UK and HMC for their generous contributions; and to Bourne United Charities for their continued support and use of the Wellhead Park to host our festival. Finally, a huge thank you to all the public for attending and making the festival such an enjoyable event to host and to organise.

He looks at her accusingly In utter sheer disgust
He knew she was up to something But didn’t want to make a fuss.
He had felt suspicious earlier When she wobbled on the ladder… To reach up for her suitcase Which had somehow made him sadder.
He remembered with a vagueness That she had done this once before… But he hadn’t felt suspicious then, ’Til he was shaken to the core!
He now remembers the dreadful panic As he watched her drive away… Abandonment…desolation… His whole being in dismay!
But wait…she’s putting all MY stuff Inside my furry bed… She’s talking in that silly voice And kissing me on my head!
Hooray…she’s taking me with her We are going away together… To run and play and paddle Under the sun of seaside weather!
Of course, I knew she wouldn’t leave me As she loves me with all her heart… We shall ALWAYS be together And never, ever part.
I was just overreacting… Woof woof!
