Because of the drink’s popularity with kids, Ovaltine

American cartoonist and Lombard resident, Harold Gray, created history and brought a slice of Broadway to DuPage County with his fictional story about Orphan Annie, her dog Sandy and her benefactor, Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks. After the debut of Gray’s radio drama series in 1930, it soon caught the attention of executives from Ovaltine Products, Inc.,

executives developed a clever strategy marrying entertainment with messaging through sponsorship of the radio series and a marketing campaign to get listeners to buy the chocolate drink mix. Ovaltine grew to be Villa Park's largest industry, especially during the Great Depression. Villa Park was home to the company until its purchase in 1988 by Nestlé USA. Today, the building is still standing as a residential apartment property. Little Orphan Annie and Ovaltine® are nostalgic names that children and adults continue to love.

TIVOLI THEATRE Sit back and relax on plush velvet seats, gaze at the intricately designed walls, and watch the latest screening of movies where time stands still at Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove. The Tivoli Theatre opened in 1928 as the second theater in the world designed for sound motion pictures. It was an era when cinematic motion picture screenings were forever changed with the introduction of “talkies. Talkies revolutionized the motion picture industry as silent films were transformed with synchronized audible sounds. Going to the picture show became an experience, where emotions became real; taking you to a different state of being. To date, Tivoli Theatre, owned and operated by Classic Cinemas, is one of the longest running theaters with one single large screen. Equipped with a state-of-the art sound and projection system, movie watching becomes a one-of-a-kind experience. This nostalgic theater is a favorite among generations of families and visitors. So, grab your buttered popcorn, favorite candy and drink from the old-fashioned concession stand and enjoy the movie.

ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY Argonne’s natural surroundings are an inspiration for innovation. Educational programs offer immersive and engaging experiences to create S.T.E.M. pathways for students throughout their journeys. Argonne was born from a famous University of Chicago scientific moment when Enrico Fermi and his team engineered the first nuclear chain reaction, a key component leading to the development of the atomic bomb.

patrishaxhiaj Argonne National Laboratory

FERMILAB Bison roaming the grounds, arts and lecture series, tours of the Leon Lederman Science Education Center and a little folk and barn dancing are just a few of the offerings to enjoy on the laboratory campus! Fermilab is America’s premier national laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research.

INNOVATION DUPAGE Innovation DuPage (ID) is a “think tank” located in downtown Glen Ellyn. The nonprofit organization brings professionals together to provide information, ideas, and advice. ID shares resources, talent and ideas to support the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. Through strategic partnerships, they showcase the region’s economic vitality to the world. ID membership affords access to workshops, resources, mentors and events. College of DuPage, Choose DuPage and the Village of Glen Ellyn are founding partners.
