Hokusai & Ukiyo-E: The Floating World
The Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World exhibition showcases over 60 works and artifacts by the masters of Japan’s Edo Period (1603–1868). Acclaimed artists such as Hokusai and Hiroshige provide a window into life during this time, when the city of Edo (present-day Tokyo) thrived as Japan’s cultural and economic center. These intricate works exemplify Ukiyo-e, or “floating world images,” a celebrated Japanese art form that captures an idealized world of grandeur, style, and pleasure.
Making its U.S. debut, this remarkable collection features 53 original works of art and 13 artifacts, including the iconic The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Edo Period culture through 10,000 square feet of interactive exhibits. Highlights include a walk-through history of Manga and Anime designed by 2D, the Step into Hokusai’s World experience, the Edo Experience, and a Samurai and Silk Selfie Station.

Vivid Creatures
You may have spotted a deer emerging from the forest, a squirrel scurrying up a tree, or a sandhill crane gracefully gliding over a pond. But have you ever thought about the roles that these animals play in our ecosystem? Visit The Morton Arboretum to see thems up close and personal as largescale sculptures.
Vivid Creatures is a new outdoor art exhibition at the Arboretum. This exhibit invites you to explore our connections with the natural world through giant, colorful, playful animal sculptures that tell a story about the interconnected relationships between creatures and their ecosystems.
The sculptures represent animals that are important to Illinois ecosystems. Guests of all ages can delight in an oversized white-tailed deer, brittle button snail, fox squirrel, dragonfly, and sandhill crane. They range in size from 8 feet up to 24 feet tall. The renowned artists behind Vivid Creatures are Fez BeGaetz and Heather BeGaetz from Portland, Oregon, who love to make works that people can experience from afar, up close, underneath, on top, or inside. This one-of-a-kind exhibition transforms nature into a vibrant playground of imagination.
