Come Diwali, and everyone in India tend to get an overdose of sweets. Our ancestors have come up with a special recipe to help handle all the fat and aid in digestion. Here's the recipe prepared by home chef Latha Chelladurrai.

Ingredients: Jaggery ............................................................... 112 cup Coriander & Pepper corns ...........................2 tbsp each Cardamom ........................................................... 1whole Carom......................................................................... 1tsp Jeera.......................................................................... 1tbsp Sitharathai..............................1 inch piece(optiona1) Dry ginger powder ............................................... 1 tsp Gingelly Oil............................................................. 2 tbsp Ghee ......................................................................1 tsp Method: First, let's prep up the jaggery syrup. Add water to jaggery till it immerses. Heat it up till it bubbles.

Strain to remove impurities.

Take all the ingredients except dry ginger powder and soak in water. Transfer all the ingredients to a mixer.Grind it to a semi fine paste. Add dry ginger powder and mix well. Now add jaggery syrup and heat for 2mins until its frothy then add the paste and mix well.

Simmer and keep stirring, till it gets a sticky texture.

At this stage, add oil and keep stirring for 3mins, finally add ghee and then switch off.

Cool down and store in an airtight container.

Now gobble up!

The acidity of the cranbery revs up the appetitefor things to follow.

In the sumptuous vegetarian platter, the spices of the vegetables were set off wonderfully by the sweetness and tartness of the charred pineapple and the blandness of cheese in the grilled paneer only enhanced the flavour.

I love, loved how the crispness of the fish encrusted with spices, was in total contrast to its well-cooked white flesh inside. Overall the non-vegetarian platter is more of a comfort food that revokes memories of the good old days!

I Located at around 60 Km from Chennai, the Pulicat lake is an ideal weekend getaway from the city. Being the second largest brackish - water lake or lagoon in India, after Chilika Lake, this water body attracts various kinds of migratory birds.

Apart from the bird sanctuary housed here, one can see the Dutch influence of a bygone era in its dilapted fort, church ruins and a cemetery. The fort dates back to 1609 while the cemetery was structured in 1622. The huge mausoleums and graves inscribed by Dutch, carved with skeletons make for an interesting albeit eerie history lesson.
