An immersive village experience that combines comfort with sustainability, Kaura Bali is a unique eco-friendly retreat located in the Karangasem Regency of eastern Bali, up in the hills of serene Manggis Village. Here, 22 inviting Pavilion rooms are dispersed instinctively on the elevated land among rice terrace fields.

ACTIVITIES

OUR VILLAGE ORIENTATION WALK

A slow two to three-hour orientation walk of the village, its various farming initiatives, and its stunning immediate surroundings. Guests are accompanied by a local community member who has been directly involved in the development projects that formed the original, foundational relationship with the greater Manggis community.

The optimal times to start this walk are between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM or between

6:30 AM and 10:00 AM

GET INVOLVED – MANGGIS FARMING IMMERSION

To be fully immersed in Kaura Bali means to get hands-on with its staple crops. Spend the morning or afternoon alongside the cheerful farmers who have supported their families for generations in the fertile valley. Gain insight into their organic farming techniques, and meet the famous goats that have become a proud symbol of the village’s success story and respect for traditional farming methods.

FROM THE VILLAGE TO THE BEACH – CYCLING EXCURSION

A stunning half-day ride using pedal-assist e-bikes to explore the broader Karangasem region. Learn about local livelihoods, listen to the stories a rare few have heard, and discover one of East Bali’s most stunning beaches. Sit down for a flavourful local lunch before heading back to the retreat.

WATERFALL AND GOLDEN BRAHMA STATUE HIKE

Take a challenging but rewarding half-day hike with your community guide. Walk the hidden trails that weave through the Manggis jungle and glimpse spectacular views out to the sea. Cool off under a stunning waterfall, a spiritual site for the local Balinese people, and marvel at the giant Brahma statue that presides over the falls.

The optimal start times for this hike are

TRADITIONAL COOKING CLASSES

Balinese food is rich in flavours and spices, memorable, and best enjoyed when made together with the experts – the locals. Visit a family home and learn to cook tasty, much-loved local dishes with the women of Manggis, then enjoy the fruits of your labour together. Bonding over food is an essential practice in Bali.

Kaura Spa will offer exceptional spa experiences that are designed to bring your mind, body, and spirit back to balance. Our massages and packages will be influenced by traditional Balinese practices and run by Putu, who has worked in 5-star hotels and is from the Manggis community.

Kaura Spa will be a project run by Putu and supported by Discova Impact as a way of creating enterprise and prosperity for not just Putu, but other members of the Manggis community who have wellness experience and wish to be trained further to work in the spa.

Kaura Bali is located amongst the charming and welcoming community of Manggis, a short distance from the beautiful seaside town of Candidasa and just over an hour’s drive from Ubud. Ngurah Rai International Airport
