God speaks to us! God reveals His greatness in the Bible and in creation. What can you discover about God from what He has made?

G

tes the Earth Crea d o Genesis 1:1–19

Before creation, everything was dark and quiet. Then God shouted, “Let there be light!” Instantly, beams of light flashed across the black darkness. The second day God said, “Let there be sky!” Fresh air, puffy clouds, and blue sky appeared. The third day God said, “Let there be land!” Hills and valleys pushed above the water. God decorated the land with colorful plants, trees, and flowers. The fourth day God lit the sky! The sun shone, the moon glowed, and millions of stars twinkled. God was pleased. Everything He had made was good!

10

God is our Creator! God was pleased with all that He created. What is your favorite part of creation? 11

G

tes the Animals Crea d o Genesis 1:20–25

The fifth day God commanded, “Let there be fish in the water—and birds in the sky!” Suddenly, wiggly fish swam everywhere—and beautiful birds flew through the air.

12

The sixth day God said, “Let there be animals!” Soon, amazing creatures of all shapes and sizes hopped through forests, galloped across fields, and crawled on rocks. God blessed the fish, birds, and animals. “Swim, fly, and run!” He told them. “Fill the seas, skies, and land.” God’s new world buzzed with life—and the Lord loved it! Everything He had made was good.

God is joyful! God made living creatures to enjoy the earth. Can you run, skip, and hop like the animals God made?

G

tes People Crea d o Genesis 1:26–31; 2:4–25

The sixth day of creation, God carefully shaped a head, body, arms, and legs from the soft soil. When the Lord breathed into the shape, it became alive! “Your name is Adam,” God told the man. God showed Adam how to grow food. Then Adam named all the amazing animals. While the man was sleeping, God took a rib from Adam’s side and made Eve, the first woman. The Lord God was very happy. Adam and Eve were like Him. They were very good!

14

God is our Creator! The Lord made people to be like Him. Why do you think God created you?

Gabriel left heaven with a wonderful message. The angel came to a young woman named Mary. “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel said. “God is with you! You’re going to have a Baby named Jesus. He’ll be a great King—God’s very own Son!” “How is this possible?” Mary asked. “God can do anything!” Gabriel explained. “I’ll do whatever God wants,” Mary answered. Then the angel disappeared. How exciting— the Lord had chosen her to be the mother of His own Son!

What should I do? Joseph wondered as he lay in bed. That night, an angel told him, “Joseph, God has chosen Mary to have a Baby— God’s special Son. Take Mary as your wife and name the Baby ‘Jesus.’ He will save people from their sins.” When Joseph awoke, he knew what to do. God wants me to take care of Mary and His special Baby! Soon Mary and Joseph got married. They were excited about God’s promise! Mary’s Baby would be extra special—Jesus was God’s own Son!

Joseph and Mary traveled all the way to Bethlehem. They were tired and needed a place to rest—but all the rooms were full! “You can use my stable,” one innkeeper offered. That night God’s Son, the Savior, was born! Mary gently wrapped Jesus in strips of cloth for warmth. She laid him in a manger to sleep. Joseph looked at his sweet wife and beautiful Baby. “Thank You, heavenly Father!” Joseph prayed. “Thank You for Jesus. What a special Baby You have given us!”

God is our Father! Jesus is God’s Son, the most important Person ever born. Why are you glad to have a heavenly Father?

It was dark outside. The shepherds strained to see their sheep. Suddenly, the sky exploded with light! “Don’t be afraid—I have wonderful news!” declared an angel. “Today a special Baby was born in Bethlehem. God has sent the Savior!” Instantly, angels filled the sky! They sang praises to God for the Savior. Then the angels disappeared.

“Hurry!” the shepherds shouted. “Let’s go to Bethlehem and worship this Baby!” The shepherds told Joseph and Mary everything the angel had said. What an amazing night!
