So It looks like our holiday plans for 2020 are destroyed again thanks to the relentless global pandemic that has risen from China in December 2019. The new 14 day quarantine that has been put in place by good old Boris has well and truly stuffed the tourist industry this year, however I can’t get my head around why the holiday companies want to get the rules relaxed? Surely peoples life’s are more important than a great sun tan and sangria on the beach aren’t they? I say fair play to Boris’s idea as I would have locked down the UK’s borders a long time ago to stop the virus ever getting in the country. I wonder if we will ever get back to normality again to be honest. As face masks are now mandatory in our shops and on public transport I am seeing some really creative ideas too. Last Saturday I saw a awesome smiley face and a great cats whiskers mask. However would you put your business logo all over face mask to drum up more brand awareness for your business? I’d love to hear your thoughts on all of this. message me at info@directlocalonline.com

Charities join forces to understand how COVID-19 affects people with type 1 diabetes Kathleen Gillespie, Professor of Molecular Whilst risk of death from COVID-19 is low, for people with and without type 1 diabetes, NHS figures nonetheless show the risk is higher for those with the condition.
Medicine at the University of Bristol, said: "Although we know that people with type 1 diabetes are at greater risk if they develop COVID-19, we know very little about how this translates to people’s experiences of the pandemic.
Scientists don’t know how many people with type 1 have had coronavirus and recovered, obscuring the full impact that the virus is having on the UK’s 400,000 people with type 1.
"With this research, we hope to get a much clearer idea of how the type 1 diabetes community has been affected by coronavirus, and how they can be kept safe and well in future."
Now, JDRF and Diabetes UK will co-fund Professor Kathleen Gillespie, at the University of Bristol, to find out. Professor Gillespie's team will work with a research group in Milan that has developed a test that can detect coronavirus antibodies in a small sample of blood – small enough to be collected via post. By offering this test to around 5,000 people participating in ongoing studies of type 1 diabetes (the Bart’s Oxford study and UK TrialNet), Professor Gillespie will be able to estimate how many people contracted coronavirus.
Rachel Connor, Director of Research Partnerships at JDRF, said: "Everyone with type 1 diabetes is different, and Professor Gillespie’s work will shed some much-needed light on the individual experiences behind the statistics.
She will also ask participants to share their experiences of COVID-19 and lockdown – including whether they have been shielding, if they have had any COVID-19 symptoms, and how their blood glucose levels have reacted. With this information, Professor Gillespie will be able to see how the type 1 diabetes community has been hit by COVID-19. This will give scientists and clinicians a clearer idea of the risk that coronavirus poses to people with type 1, enabling healthcare teams to better support and protect people with the condition.
"We’re hopeful that with this information, policymakers and healthcare teams will be able to give people with type 1 diabetes the advice and support they need." Dr Elizabeth Robertson, Director of Research at Diabetes UK, said: "There's never an easy time to live with diabetes, but the COVID-19 pandemic presents particular challenges for people with type 1. It is vital that we understand how having COVID-19, as well as living in lockdown, affects people with type 1 diabetes so that we can provide them with the best advice and care during this difficult time and in the future. "We're delighted to join forces with JDRF to fund Professor Gillespie's research, which will help us to do this by giving important insights into the experiences of people with type 1 diabetes during the pandemic."

Your Garden In August
After the heat of July, the weather usually continues to be very nice giving us time to simply enjoy our gardens and all the hard work we’ve put into them. Don’t worry too much about doing endless jobs – just remember to keep everything watered. If you are going away, you may need to enlist the help of friends and family to look after the garden. If you are at home and feeling energetic, there are still a few gardening tasks for August that will keep your gardens going longer, as well as opportunities to get a head start on next year’s garden plans.
Take herb cutting
August is the ideal month to take cuttings woody herbs such as Rosemary and Lavender. To do this, simply take new growth that hasn’t flowered this year cut a piece 10cm long just below a leaf joint, remove the lower leaves and dip the end in a rooting hormone before planting in a gritty compost. If you have lavender in the garden, now is also the ideal time to give it a trim. This will encourage new bushy growth in the spring and will prevent it becoming bare and woody.
Pruning and tidying
Most long flowering perennials will finish flowering this month so cut them down to the ground. Don’t forget about them though – continue to water them, as this will encourage a second flush of foliage and generally prevent the garden looking frazzled and messy. Although weeds will be growing more slowly now than in the spring it’s a good idea to continue to hoe the soil to keep them down.
Try to do this in warm, dry conditions to ensure weed seedlings you disturb are left on the surface to dehydrate and die.
Make plans for next year
Looking good this month….
A nice relaxing job for those hot days! Pull up a chair in a sunny spot and start planning for next Hydrangea year. 5 More Ways to Make your LinkedIn Profile Work for You. Your LinkedIn Profile is your presence on LinkedIn. You can't do anything in LinkedIn until your Profile is up. It's like your resume and more. When someone looks at your Profile, they'll decide whether to connect with you or hire you. These are 5 Insider Secrets that show you how to make your Profile compelling and be sure you're found when people search for clients, top talent for jobs, and people to connect and network with in LinkedIn. When someone looks at your Profile, they’ll decide whether to connect with you, hire you as an employee or for your services based on what they see there. Make it a good first impression, and make it compelling so that they contact you. People want to connect with people they know, like and trust. And they buy from and hire people they know, like and trust. Be sure your LinkedIn Profile shows who you are and that people can know, like and trust you. Here are some more tips for creating your Profile so that you’re found on LinkedIn, and your Profile shows them that you’re the best person to connect with. 1. When your LinkedIn Profile is complete, it’s searchable by the search engines - almost like your own Web page. Look at other peoples’ Profiles before you create yours. There are good examples to look at to get ideas for what to include in your Profile. Check out several in your industry or area and some that are outside your area. And complete your LinkedIn Profile as soon as possible, even if it’s not perfect. Your LinkedIn Profile is dynamic, and you’ll be making changes as you find a job, work with more clients, and see how other people write their Profiles. 2. Get Recommendations as soon as your Profile is finished. Offer to write a Recommendation for people you know and have worked with. Ask people who know you to write a Recommendation for you. Perhaps people from the company where you work, or clients, if you have your own business. Recommendations are like testimonials about you, and can include how you’ve worked together, results you’ve achieved, and why someone likes working with you. A good way to get Recommendations is to offer to write one for people you know on LinkedIn. Often they’ll write one for you in return.
10
3. Make a list of your goals and what you want to get from being a part of LinkedIn. There’s a summary section of your Profile where you list why you’re a part of LinkedIn, and what you want to get from it. For example, new clients, a new job, let people know about your business or special events, etc. These may change as your goals change. 4. Make it a habit to use LinkedIn before you travel. Search for people in the city you’re traveling to, connect with them via LinkedIn or a phone call or e-mail. Send them the link to your Profile, and tell them you’re in LinkedIn and want to meet with them when you’re in their city. Solid networks are being built in person through LinkedIn. 5. HOT TIP: Include the link to your LinkedIn Profile in your e-mail signature, so people can click right through to see it. This has paid off for me in many ways. For example, I sent out an e-mail with the link to my LinkedIn Profile in the signature line, and someone contacted me and said that my e-mail prompted him to look at my LinkedIn Profile and my Web site, and he wanted to connect with me. He was from Hungary, and we’ve already connected on LinkedIn and when he was in the U.S. recently. Also include your link in the resource box of articles you write. Be sure you personalize it before you start sending it out. For example, rather than the link that LinkedIn gives you automatically, which is something like, www.linkedin.com/in/146t25ab, personalize it so people can read it and know it’s you. (It’s easy). Mine is www.linkedin.com/in/ mike-davies75. And here’s extra tip for you - because I believe in Lagniappe, a New Orleans custom that means “a little bit extra”. It started in New Orleans when the baker gave you an extra bun when you ordered a dozen. And I’ve adopted it and made it a part of my business practice. Your Lagniappe (a little bit extra): 6. Connect with people you know and want to know on LinkedIn on a consistent basis. Invite people to be a part of your LinkedIn network regularly. It’s very easy to extend an invitation there’s an e-mail that LinkedIn has already created that invites someone to be a part of your network. They can view your Profile on LinkedIn. My recommendation is to personalize your Invitation rather than use the rather bland one that was written by LinkedIn. For example, make it personal and friendly Free Reprint Articles, and say more about why you want to connect and about who you are and what you’re looking for in LinkedIn.

FUNERAL VENUE OFFERS PICNIC OPTION SO FAMILIES CAN CELEBRATE FOR LONGER A South West funeral venue has adapted its catering options to allow for families to enjoy a leisurely picnic while remembering the life of their loved one. Bristol Memorial Woodlands, a nature reserve which hosts funeral services and burials within 100-acres of woodland and meadows, was forced to stop the usual buffet-style catering it offered to mourners due to coronavirus restrictions. Now, with the help of hospitality manager Kat Brown, the venue has launched a new picnic bag option which allows families to enjoy homemade treats on the grounds while spending time with family and friends after a service. “One of our biggest selling points, other than the stunning setting, is that families are given the opportunity here to mourn, remember and celebrate their loved ones life for longer than the set time you get given at a crematorium,” said Kat. With the space available at Bristol Memorial Woodlands, up to 30 guests can gather in the chapel (a few more outside) at any one time while following social distancing guidelines. Kat continued: “There has been a really good take up with most families choosing to enjoy our picnic bags over the last few weeks. We’ve now also got a marquee set up so that if the weather isn’t great people can still enjoy the views of our pond and woodlands. “Our customers have really appreciated the effort we have put in to the new catering options so it’s something we’re proud of. After the service they can congregate in the ground and share memories, all while keeping to social distancing rules.
12
“When we were unable to provide any catering for our guests, as our buffet-style with people helping themselves was prohibited under the new government guidelines, we really felt we were missing something and that guests weren’t able to get the full benefit of our beautiful facilities here. “One of our funeral directors Scott noticed that families were bringing their own picnics to enjoy on the grounds, something we encourage all year round. We realised that we could offer a picnic bag option meaning one less thing for families to worry about.” Kat and the team developed the idea from there and now offer visitors an individual picnic bag filled with a homemade sandwich, a homemade sausage roll, a homemade cake, a packet of crisps and a variety of hot and cold refreshments. There are vegetarian and vegan options available as well as gluten free and dairy free adaptations. “We really try to provide a bespoke service to each occasion so if a family requests a certain type of sandwich which reminds them of their loved one, or if they want us to set up a table of glasses for some bring your own fizz, we’ll happily accommodate them. We want to be known, not for a conveyor-belt service, but for an unhurried experience to remember fondly.” Bristol Memorial Woodlands is a 100-acre burial ground which is being transformed into a beautiful woodland with trees and wild flowers planted around the plots where loved ones are laid to rest. The area is managed by a charitable trust and will be open forever for future generations to visit. Bristol Memorial Woodlands has its own chapel, Georgian reception rooms and dedicated burial grounds for the Muslim and Jewish communities. A letter from a life coach - “maintaining the lockdown-blessings As the lockdown restrictions are being lifted, our lives are slowly returning to our routines. Whilst many are adamant to carry the lockdown blessing forward, the reality is there is a chance we will return to overworking habits and be back at square one. But fear not, as there is something you can do about it. Through talking to many clients and contacts, it transpires almost everyone has the same awakenings in the lockdown, and they all wanted to carry this forward when life resumes to normal. The top 3 lockdown blessings are as follows 1. Time to think - evaluating, reflecting and fine-tuning the decisions made and the impact to date. This includes discovering your true self and what you want to become, whether that be in work, health, family, friendship, personal growth and more. 2. Slowing down - the ability to enjoy life in the present moment, appreciating the simple wonders of the world and giving time to value it deserves. 3. Relationships - fine-tuning the relationships we wish to cultivate for a fulfilling life and distancing from those who drag us back into Energy-Sucker-Land. We are habitual creatures of this world and regardless of these lessons, if you do not have a plan, you will return to what is most familiar. We know why our blessings are important to us, we felt it and lived in. This is a great start. Without consistent action taking coupled with being realistic for your lifestyle, we naturally get caught up in the grind of life and revert back to what we know. We must build the foundations to maintain our lockdown lessons in order to live them in ordinary times. Think longer term, a year or so from today. Here are some real-world Lockdown-Blessing Maintenance Plans to consider; Protect your sacred space. Whether you are working from home or if working in an office; have dedicated space that evokes focus, repels any negativity and invites inspirational vibes into your spacen This might mean asserting your voice with setting boundaries. It is not OK for your partner to chomp on their lunch while you are deep in thought on your work strategy or to shout office chit-chat because you are further apart from your peers.
16
If you allow yourself to be distracted, be mindful that this will take time away from the lockdown blessings you wish to maintain. You make a choice to be distracted and take longer to complete your work commitments or to work smarter and free-up your out of work hours to invest in your priorities. Equally, respect other people's sacred space. They might want to be efficient in work to invest valuable time with their loved ones. Gauge their body language, make a judgement call and respect their decision. Fulfilling celebrations. Celebrate your wins often, no matter how big or small. It fuels growth. Consider swapping the going out with cocktails for time with your carefully selected tribe over a healthy meal cooked by your personally hired chef. You get to have quality time with your loved ones; filling up your energy supplies with love, giving your health priority with nutritious food and being hangover-free to enjoy the following few days. Now you have more time to invest the rest of your lockdown-blessings. Win-win. Not everyone is created the same. If you are desperate for a shindig, because partying brings you joy, then create a tactical blowout pot. Save some funds each month to build a pot that has a single purpose of having a blowout; buy the outfit, gather friends, get the music blaring, book the booth in the club and get your freak on!
Once the blowout pot is exhausted and you satisfy your desire, embrace your new lockdown-blessings with a dash of your wildness. If you do not satisfy your need, old habits of regular wild nights will creep up on you. You can balance both.
When you give to you, you can show up more effectively in your work, friendship circles and more importantly, for yourself!

New show homes launch at popular South Gloucestershire development
New show homes at Park Farm Thornbury now open Two brand new show homes at a popular South Gloucestershire housing development have just launched, as the surge in interest in buying a new home continues post lockdown.
The show homes and sales centre are open by appointment only but virtual one-to-one tours via video phone are proving hugely popular as well the 3D virtual tours on the development website.
The new show homes at Barratt Homes' Park Farm in Thornbury opened last week as the final phase of construction resumes following the covid restrictions. Several of the new homes will be ready to move into later this summer.
Set within 27 acres of open space outside the popular town of Thornbury, Park Farm will also offer sports pitches, parks and an orchard and is within walking distance of the Ofsted ‘outstanding' rated St Mary's Church of England Primary School.
The 5-star housebuilder has seen a huge upswing in interest in buying a new home in recent weeks with a 97% rise in enquiries last month, compared to the same period last year.
NHS workers and members of the armed forces are offered a 5% contribution, up to £15,000, on a new home a Park Farm under Barratt’s NHS Deposit Contribution Scheme and Armed Forces Deposit Contribution Scheme. The government’s Help to Buy scheme is also available enabling buyers to become owners with just a five percent deposit on their new home, up to a value of £600,000.
Two new house types have been introduced to the fourth and final phase of Park Farm, offering first time buyers, families and downsizers alike a wide variety of home designs and layouts to suit a range of requirements. Features of the new Woodcote home include a large and luxurious main bedroom with en-suite occupying the whole of the top floor and a fourth bedroom that also makes an ideal home-office. 18
The current scheme is set to change next April, becoming open only to first time buyers and for homes up to £349,000. As a result, there are only ten homes left at Park Farm that will qualify for the current scheme.
Many buyers have expressed a desire to move home before the end of 2020 and Barratt Homes is also offering part exchange on the Park Farm development, which will help speed up the process. The scheme allows buyers to part exchange their current home for a new one, with Barratt Homes being a guaranteed cash buyer. Andrea Pilgrim, sales director at Barratt Bristol said: "We're thrilled to be getting back to building our high-quality homes at Park Farm - already a thriving mixed community. These two new show homes showcase our newest, most contemporary homes offering great flexibility - which recent events have highlighted as being important for so many of us.
A range of safety measures and new working procedures are in place in the sales office including protective perspex screens, retractable barriers, strict social distancing and, where necessary, personal protective equipment (PPE), plus smart video- doorbell intercom systems to enable customers to engage with sales teams before entering offices. To find out more about new homes from Barratt, visit www.barratthomes.co.uk or call 0330 057 6000.
“It’s a really lovely location with masses of outdoor space, parks and even an orchard whilst being less than a mile out of Thornbury and its great range of pubs, restaurants and independent shops.”

The 3 Best Cycle Routes In Bristol
Bristol and Bath Railway Path
Bristol to Portishead
This is one of the most popular routes in Bristol for cyclists and walkers alike. It was originally a railway in the 1960s, before Sustrans converted it into a cycle path between 1979 and 1986. In the process, it became the first of Sustrans’ many cycleways.
Beginning at Queen Square, you ride directly south to the wharf, crossing the small Prince Street bridge before taking a right and cutting through Museum Street to meet the River Avon.
The Bristol and Bath Railway Path is a point-topoint route and can be ridden in either direction. You can set off in Bristol on the corner of Trinity Street and St. Philips Road, or in Bath from the old railway bridge before Windsor Bridge Road. The riverside path continues into the centre of Bath, so why not carry on and explore this beautiful town if you have the time? You won’t have to contend with any cars on this route either. It’s entirely traffic-free and lined with lush greenery, so you’ll feel nestled into the countryside. There are some interesting features along the way as well, namely the Staple Hill tunnel and the traditional Bitton train station serving refreshments, cakes and sandwiches. Distance: 13.9 miles Elevation: 266m

From here, you ride along the River Avon’s banks as it winds down the striking Avon Gorge, past Leigh Woods and underneath the towering Clifton Suspension Bridge. The dirt path is smooth and the sharpest hill is only a 30m incline over 1.5 miles on the approach to Ham Green, so this ride is well suited to cruising. At the halfway point, you’ll arrive at the quaint boating village of Pill. Here, you can stop for lunch or a quick coffee before pressing onto Portishead. The last quarter of the journey hops back onto the road, but you’ll still ride along tree-lined lanes between farmland for the most part. Once you reach Portishead, you can continue northwest and finally rest at the shoreline overlooking Wales across the Bristol Channel. Distance: 11.2 miles Elevation: 329m
Bristol Docks Loop Some might argue that Bristol is best experienced by bicycle – and it’s hard to disagree after watching this documentary from Böikzmöind, a Bristol fixie bike community. The Bristol Docks Loop consists of nearly three-quarters traffic-free paths, which is quite a feat for a city centre cycle route. At 3 miles, it’s perfect for taking things easy and soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
You can glide down the banks of the Avon and cut across town to see all it has to offer in no time compared to walking or using public transport. There’s something more romantic about it too. Starting at Bristol Cathedral, you’ll pass the Bristol central library and then join the path at the wharf for views of the docks and the SS Great Britain. Pass the docks and you’ll join the River Avon and the Chocolate Path will guide you back into town. Central Bristol is full of pubs and cafes if you fancy a pit stop before finishing off the ride

COVID-19 Memorial Garden Design Unveiled An artists’ impression shows how a new memorial garden at Westerleigh Crematorium to remember people who have died during the COVID-19 pandemic will look. Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner-operator of crematoria and cemeteries, announced last month its intention to create a memorial garden at each of its 34 sites across the country, including Westerleigh Crematorium, near Bristol. Luke Dinsdale, site manager, said: “The new garden will be a tranquil place for people to visit and remember loved ones who died during the pandemic, and to pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much to help others who were sick, isolated or vulnerable. “The centre-piece of each garden will be a stone monument surrounded by a floral arrangement representing a rainbow, which has become a symbol of hope during the pandemic. “Many people have put pictures of rainbows in their windows during the lockdown, to cheer up passers- by and to offer a bright message of hope. “Our rainbows will be created using the vibrant colours of Begonias, Petunias and Geraniums.”

The stone at the centre of the memorial garden will be made from all-polished black granite and is a typical traditional memorial for remembrance but with a Westerleigh change of design. The memorials will be individually carved by Westerleigh’s highly-skilled stonemasonsWork is expected to begin on the stone memorials in the Autumn with garden landscaping taking place in early Spring 2021. Luke and his team at Westerleigh Crematorium are now looking to identify the best location within the grounds for the garden, which is expected to open mid-to-late Spring 2021. He added: “We are proud that our crematorium enjoys close links with our local community, and we therefore thought it would be an appropriate gesture to create these permanent and lasting memorials. “It will be a special place where people can remember and reflect on the loved ones they have lost, and give thanks to the wonderful way that the NHS, key workers and whole communities pulled together during this unprecedented crisis. “As this project progresses, we will be reaching out to the local community to help shape and finalise our plans.”

5 Independent restaurants offering 50% off in August August is set to be a great month for eating out, with lots of restaurants offering 50 per cent off food. Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the Eat Out To Help Out scheme earlier this month in a bid to revive the UK economy following the Covid-19 lockdown. The scheme means diners can enjoy a half price meal between Monday and Wednesday every week from August. While you can take advantage of the offer as many times as you like, you cannot use the deal on alcohol and the discount is capped at £10 per head.
Grounded www.cafegrounded.co.uk All of Grounded's Bristol sites, including Bedminster, Horfield and Redfield, have signed up to the scheme, meaning you can enjoy 50 per cent off its food between Monday and Wednesday. Considering Grounded's food is already incredibly reasonably priced, there are some real bargains to be had.
The Government hopes the incentive will encourage people to dine out more, in turn pumping money back into businesses and the high street. Below are independent restaurants in the Bristol area that have signed up to the scheme. If you manage a restaurant and would like to be added to the list, email robin.murray@reachplc.com. Beerd www.beerdbristol.com Popular for its artisan pizzas and impressive range of locally brewed beers, Beerd has announced it is taking part in the scheme. If a quality pizza for around £5 sounds good to you, you might want to take a trip to St Michael’s Hill.
Burger Joint www.theburgerjoint.co.uk With locations in North Street and Whiteladies Road, Burger Joint has become something of a Bristol institution over its 11-year run. Once you've tried one of its burgers, you'll understand why it has built up such a loyal following.
The Wellington www.thewellingtonbristol.co.uk The Welly’ is a large, detached, traditional red-brick pub at the top of Bristol’s vibrant Gloucester Road. It’s a much-loved pub that’s well known for providing a warm welcome and great service. Part of local brewery Bath Ales’ pub estate, it offers high quality food and drink in a lively setting. Featuring an enviable range of beers (available in jugs as well as glasses), a wide ranging menu, a new conservatory, plenty of space to the rear of the pub for al fresco drinking, and a children’s play area, The Wellington continues to be a popular destination for friends and families alike.

Bristol's musical and creative community joins together for Sky Orchestra. The line-up of celebrated and emerging Bristol musicians and artists involved in a massive musical dawn chorus set to take place in the city this month has been announced. Serenading people in their homes with specially commissioned new music, the Sky Orchestra is planned to offer people hope for the future and showcase the creative talent of the city. A flotilla of seven hot air balloons will deliver the instrumental dawn chorus from the sky to create an uplifting visual and musical experience in surround sound.
Outgoing Bristol City Poet Vanessa Kisuule has written a spoken word contribution which she is recording whilst renowned theatre and TV writer, composer and sound designer Elizabeth Purnell has created the string arrangements. Drew Morgan is the cello soloist for the piece. Emerging young Bristol talent performing includes Jo Bacon, Jerome Gamble and Joe Harding on the guitar, with Tom Nosek providing the vocals. Both Stew Jackson and Jerome Gamble will be playing electric guitars in balloons live during the Sky Orchestra performance.
Sky Orchestra - A New Dawn for Bristol is an arts project by renowned international Bristol artist Luke Jerram and Bristol-based BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones. It features the premiere of a new composition commissioned by Bristol Old Vic.
Planned by Dan and Luke since the beginning of the lockdown, the local ballooning crews are being brought together by lead pilot Peter Dalby. The performance has only just been made possible as social distancing restrictions have been relaxed to allow pilots and crews to work together safely. To avoid public crowds turning up to watch the launch, the dates and times of the performance are a secret. The performance will be announced on the day, just as the balloons take off.
Now, the incredible line-up of Bristol musical and artistic contributors joining forces for the project has been revealed. Grant Marshall, founder member of Massive Attack, Stew Jackson, current writer and producer for Massive Attack, and Adrian Utley, founder member of Portishead, are all involved in either creating or playing on the soundtrack.
People are encouraged to capture the experience on camera and share their photos and video on social media, using the hashtag #skyorchestra. Funds raised from the sale of the EP of the musical composition, which will be available to stream via all mainstream music streaming services, will be donated to support emerging musicians in the city.

Sky Orchestra was first performed in the city at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in 2003, and in 2011 flew across the Capital for the London Olympics 2012. Dan Jones, a BAFTA and three-time Ivor Novello award-winning composer who balances his time creating large scale musical artworks with a prolific career writing music for screen, is co-creating the new score.
"I'd love to see how people experience the Sky Orchestra from around the city so please do share your photos and videos on social media, using the hashtag #skyorchestra."
He said: "We're excited to be bringing together some of Bristol's most celebrated musicians alongside emerging young talent from across the city; Bristol continues to be a launchpad for musical innovation that spreads right around the world. This is a great opportunity for all of us to thank the city as a continued source of inspiration."
Tom Morris from Bristol Old Vic, which commissioned the new musical score said: "All of Bristol is a theatre and the safest performance space in the world is the sky. Bristol Old Vic may be closed, for now, but the ears and eyes and hearts of all Bristolians are not and the need for inspiring work by our most extraordinary artists is greater than ever under the effect of the pandemic. We are thrilled to be able to collaborate with Luke and Dan and a host of Bristolian musicians on this wonderful project, their gift to the city during lockdown. May it bring hope and delight to all who see and hear it."
Luke Jerram, who is well known for artworks such as Museum of the Moon, Play Me I'm Yours and Park and Slide, explains: "As the city begins to unlock, we wanted a way to deliver an uplifting experience to people in their homes. Something spectacular, yet somehow intimate; to create a sense of renewal, hope and rebirth, to raise the public's spirits and mark a moment in time.
With seven hot air balloons positioned over a city, this makes it one of the largest surround sound artworks in the world.
Sky Orchestra - A New Dawn for Bristol is taking place with kind permission from Bristol City Council, within social distancing guidelines.
