Welcome to this months edition. Wow October already. Where has the year gone, seems like the years go faster and faster the older you get doesn’t it? feels like only a few days ago we were talking about the kids going back to school and the problems it may bring... Now we are thinking what sort of mess has been created as we head to half term and the government suggestion of not going away for the autumn school holidays. I really do feel for the university students that have been sold the dream of partying all night and endless campus lectures they were so looking forward to as they head in to fresher week. I think they should all get a refund, or at least been told the whole story before the local universities took their cash and put them in some kind of lockdown. As for those that seemed to have had mass dorm parties shame on you we are all in this together for the long haul so suck it up, a time to party will happen-and what a party it will be when its all over!! On a happier note as of the 1st October its only 85 days to Christmas. I wonder how we will celebrate this year as most of the usual events that mark this occasion are closed and the pub will be closed at 10pm. Maybe we should have social distant street parities. Anyway till next week stay safe and well folks

PM Johnson confirms major blow for football fans! Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that football fans will not return from October 1 after announcing new lockdown measures in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It had been hoped that fans could return to limited-capacity football stadiums from the start of next month. With grounds having around 25 to 33% of its capacity being filled. However, tighter restrictions due to a spike in Covid-19 cases have resulted in those plans being pushed back - potentially by six months. That would mean matches continuing to be played behind closed doors until March, at least, unless "significant progress" is made. "On reopening sporting events, we will not be able to do this from 1 October, "Boris Johnson told the House of Commons.“We will have to extend the 'rule of six' to all adult indoor team sports. "Unless we make significant progress, these restrictions will be in place for six months."
The Football Supporters Association have written to the government urging them to rethink the approach to letting fans in. Arguing that pilots which allowed fans into matches have been a success and shown that crowds can comply with social distancing measures put in place, FSA CEO Kevin Miles said the financial consequences of not allowing fans in could be devastating to clubs that mean so much to communities.
A combination of revenue at the ground and government support is urgently needed to keep clubs going. “The Government has to listen to fans and football clubs on this one.”

The Bell at Old Sodbury
The Bell Inn at Old Sodbury is a traditional family run pub, serving great food at a reasonable cost, and with friendly service. Before lockdown me and my other half had dinner there one evening in the week. We took a gamble on walking in with no reservation. The gamble paid off. We got sat down and ordered our food. To start I had chilli and garlic king prawns on a bed of crispy noodles. A lovely little starter, delicate in flavour with just enough of the sweet chilli and garlic dressing to give it an oriental flair. The other half ordered mushroom stroganoff on a grilled piece of horseradish soda bread. The sauce I thought was too heavy with paprika, there was no room for the other flavours to really come through. But the bread however was delicious! I’ve never seen horseradish bread before let alone eaten it. Freshly baked The flavours sang out like church choir on and tasting unique it was a lovely Christmas morning. Crunchy crackling and accompaniment. that sweet charred taste of the grill coated the thick fat like a comforting blanket Onto the main course. The one thing I love of goodness. The Jambalaya didn’t disappoint about this place, is it’s originality. There are either. Lightly peppered with crumbly chorizo, items on the menu that you won’t find on roasted peppers and tomatoes, it was light, anywhere else. There’s something for everyfragrant and perfectly cooked. The rice also one on this menu including the vegans!! We absorbed some of that delicious pork juice both had the Louisiana tomahawk pork, with chorizo Jambalaya and cornbread. Now being from the chop which gave it an extra edge. Served with a fresh slice of warm, sweet, in rural South Gloucestershire one doesn’t cornbread this was quite possibly the best really experience the tastes of the American meal I’ve had out this year so far. Deep South, so this was an opportunity I wasn’t going to pass on. The tomahawk itself Reviewed by Peter Abraham was a BIG pork chop. Cooked to perfection and tasted sublime.

Gas Girls’ Launch Special Edition Away Kit With Bristol Pride The 'Gas Girls' are delighted to launch a special edition away kit in partnership with Bristol Pride. The brand-new special edition kit will made its debut on Sunday the 20th September in the Women's FA Cup Preliminary Round away to Chipping Sodbury Ladies. Bristol Pride is a registered charity organised by volunteers from the community who work all year round to challenge homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and promote equality and diversity, for all, through various events, school visits and consultation services. The Bristol Pride Festival also attracts close to 40,000 people every year. The ‘Gas Girls’ recently received ‘The Best Football Community Development Initiative’ award at this year’s FA Women’s Football Awards and the club is continuing to establish key partnerships within the City in an attempt to promote community cohesion and inclusion. Bristol Rovers Women’s and Bristol Rovers Community Trust are also excited to be working alongside Bristol Pride to organise future events and help bring the community together to celebrate, create understanding, opportunities for engagement and to tackle discrimination.
10
Club Secretary and Marketing Manager, Matthew Davies, said: "I am absolutely delighted to establish this partnership with such an inspiring organisation and charity like Bristol Pride. We've been in discussion with the team at Bristol Pride for a number of months and it was very clear that we all share the same community values and strive to challenge homophobia of any kind in society. To donate the front of this shirt to Bristol Pride and to be able to wear their brand is a huge honour and we're really excited by what we're able to achieve by working together in the future. I'd also like to thank Bob Seymour from Ahimsa Yoga Bristol who helped us the launch of the kit and shares our values as a club." Festival Director at Bristol Pride, added: "We were so excited when Matt got in touch. Sport reaches and connects with so many people of all ages, races, sexes genders and everything in-between. Homophobia is a big problem in sport and this is a very clear message. We wish them all the best with the season ahead and can’t wait to wear the shirts with pride."

Thornbury Town FC has launched a fundraising appeal in an attempt to recoup losses made as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Thornbury Football Club is estimating a shortfall in their income of aoound ÂŁ10,000 in 2020.Town had been hit badly by the bad weather at the start of the year and only had two home first team fixtures from the end of November.
"We also have permission for an extension to our clubhouse, improving the matchday experience for our supporters and all visitors to our games. It will also provide the opportunity for use by various groups from the local community on non-match days.
All revenue was then lost after the season came to a premature end. Fundraising events including the junior section summer tournament, sponsored race nights and quiz nights also had to be cancelled due ti the pandemic.
"Unfortunately because of the loss of income we have suffered during the year we are not in a position to move ahead with these projects."
A statement from the club's fundraising page said: "We face the prospect of struggling to cover our running costs, let alone provide the funding for the new stand that is required for us to gain promotion to the next level. "The club has permission for the installation of a new stand and the relocation of the existing stand to the far side of the pitch, giving a much better view of the game for spectators."More importantly they will offer spectators much more protection from the prevailing winds and rain than the existing stand does, tucked away as it is in the corner of the ground!
14
The club is now asking it’s supporters, ex-players and anyone with an interest in supporting the club to help, by making a donation in exchange for various rewards. So far more than £1,200 has been raised. More details are available at crowdfunder. co.uk/thornbury-town-fc-covid-recovery-fundraiser. After six months of enforced inactivity Thornbury Town first team get back to competitive action Saturday 11th September when they play their first Uhlsport Hellenic League fixture of the new season with a visit to Clanfield85. In the past, visits to Radcot Road have proved to be tricky encounters but manager Jason Rees is hoping for a winning start to the new campaign.
Thornbury Football Club have managed to retain last season’s squad with the exception of Dave Jones, but with a number of new signings there will be lots of competition for places. Harry Walton and Elliott Gardner have both had Toolstation Western League experience with Cribbs whilst experienced James DeRosa makes a welcome return to the Mundys having also spent time at Cribbs. Former Port Talbot Town forward Ben Ryan has also signed along with Bath City Under18 keeper Mackenzie Welsh. The pre-season friendlies went well with a mixture of results against strong opposition. One of the highlights was a 4 goal haul for Luke Franklin in a 5-2 win at Longlevens, whilst their last friendly at Southern League side Larkhall Athletic saw Town slip to a 5-0 defeat which was not as emphatic as the scoreline suggests.
Town’s first home game is on Tuesday 15th September when Hereford Lads Club are the visitors, kick off 7:45pm. Meanwhile the Reserves and A team have both started the new Bristol & District League season, having both been promoted at the close of last season. The Reserves started with an emphatic 5-2 win at Hartcliffe with Harrison Young notching two and Matt Constable, Joe Wisby and Cam Drew completing the scoring. The A team went two goals down before Paul Turner and Matt Smith brought them level and secure a good point against Iron Acton. This Saturday the Reserves are at home to Hanham Athletic Reserves at the Mundys whilst the A team visit Oldland Abbotonians. Both games kick off at 2:30pm.

Your Garden In October
Autumn is officially here! October, in all its glory, gives us a wonderful display of colours. The trees are beginning to lose their leaves in abundance as they become dormant for winter, telling us that the change of season is in full swing.
The days are much shorter and cooler and we can feel autumn chill in the air. Although trees are the stars of the month, October is time to think about how the garden will look when it wakes from hibernation. There are plants to be cut back and left tidy for the winter, shrubs to be planted or moved, summer plants to be removed and replaced with winter hardy bedding, bulbs to be strategically placed in borders and the lawn to be fed and given its final mow October may bring with it the beginning of quiet times for the garden – but not for the gardener. TIDY PERENNIALS Perennials are not difficult plants to care for, but trimming them after flowering finishes in autumn helps to improve their appearance and give a boost to next year’s flowering. Using a knife, shears or secateurs, cut stems close to the ‘crown’ or dormant base of the plant. Any crowded clumps of perennials can also be lifted, divided and replanted. Take the opportunity to remove weeds as you prune before applying a light mulch to protect from any hard frost.
16
PLANT TREES AND SHRUBS October is the ideal month to plant trees and shrubs. Although the container grown plants can be planted at any time of the year they are easier to care for if planted in the autumn or winter. The ground is damp and still warm which gives the perfect conditions to allow roots to become established before winter sets in.
PLANT AUTUMN BEDDING Any remaining summer bedding will be looking very tired by now and is best cleared and replaced for a fresher display. Autumn bedding such as pansy and primrose will give an instant lift to the garden and they look great planted between the shrubs in the border. Myositis, which produces masses of small flowers with the little white eyes and Sweet William, which provides a colourful carpet of flowers from spring through summer are both ideal for over wintering if planted now.
LOOKING GOOD THIS MONTH... Conifers
WHY SHOULD YOU PLANT THEM? Conifers are hardy evergreen trees and shrubs that suit any garden. They come in a huge range of shape and sizes and textures and the colour can be anything from yellow or light green through to dark green and blue. Easy to care for and long lasting, conifers are the ideal choice for any gardener looking for a low maintenance but high impact plant. HOW SHOULD YOU PLANT THEM? Dwarf conifers are good for containers and larger shrubs and trees make good hedging or garden features. They are happy in any soil in the sun or shade. Newly planted conifers will need watering until established.. After flowering, sheer back dead flower stems to keep the plant looking full.

Amazon parcels could be delivered by selfdriving delivery boxes
Bristolians could soon see their Amazon parcels delivered by a small self-driven vehicle.
The online giant is hiring a team of engineers to develop its Amazon Scout vehicles for use in Bristol and throughout the UK following the growth in online shopping. The Scout rolls along the pavement at walking pace before delivering to a customer's door. It has been developed with a camera and sensor to help it navigate around pedestrians, pets and obstacles such as bins and sign posts.
"Our investment in this new Amazon Scout team in the UK, which will consist of dozens of engineers, is driven by our partnership with the Cambridge community and made possible by the talented people who live here," the company said.
The technology is already being tested out in small areas in the States, including the area just outside Amazon's headquarters in Washington state.
Last week, Amazon said it would create 7,000 jobs by the end of the year, taking its permanent UK workforce to more than 40,000 people.
Engineers in the UK will be working with the Amazon Scout research lab in Seattle to develop the software.
But thousands of jobs have been lost in the retail sector since March, as non-essential shops were forced to close during lockdown and many turned to online shopping.

Home Improvement tips
Laminate Flooring In Five Steps! Laminate is attractive for a few reasons. It is just a good tight floor that requires minimal maintenance. Laminate flooring is normally durable and in comparison with other types of flooring not costly. If you're following theses steps carefully, it is possible to setup any flooring straight away on your own. A fairly nice activity job for two individuals to undertake. What do I need? - Laminate - Underfloor + joining tape - Skirtings - Mitre Saw / Jig Saw - Tapeline - Hammer - Spacers - Pencil - Square Step 1 Prepare everything you have obtained for the project to start out. The ground where one must place the laminate ought to be completely flat and free of dirt and dust. Step 2 Then you may start with the actual sub floor. This is basically the sound, humidity and heat insulation. There are numerous types of flooring on the market. Make sure when choosing your sub floor to select the one that fits your floor the best. When rolling out the sub floor. Simply place the underlay along with joining tape together.
24
Step 3 Now you can begin at one corner, between the walls and the laminate place spacers an 8mm apart around the room between the wall and the laminate. This help the laminate to expand against the wall in hot and cold climates. First, place a whole sheet of flooring. After that you can work the room. Hold the plank in a angle of about forty-five degrees and tap the boards together using a rubber hammer and off cut of laminate to ensure you don’t ruin the tung or grove of the next board. I recommend using a dremel tool to cut out spaces under skirting that is surrounding doors to get a seamless finish if your leaving the original skirting in place Step 4 When the laminate is completed , you may start the skirting to hide the 8mm. You can find a variety of skirting for sale at places like B and Q. The simplest to use is the bull nosed variety. This can be a good choice seeing as there are absolutely no fancy edges to cut. Cut the skirting boards inside a corner with a miter saw at forty-five degrees. This way you will get good, tight edges. Step 5 Your floor is ready! Thoroughly clean the surface with a lightweight. Wet cloth. Not too wet, because laminate are not able to endure that. Be careful while positioning the furniture. Putting them on laminate (specially with the cheaper ones) can quickly get them scratched. The best you can do is ensure the bottom part of the legs is properly flat.

Your guide to online car shopping As a nation, we absolutely love the convenience of shopping from the comfort of our own homes including buying a new car. Gone are the days of traipsing around car dealerships on a rainy Sunday morning. With the consumer demand for online car purchases showing no signs of slowing down, many dealerships, brokers and independent sellers are advertising their ‘too good to miss’ deals but how do you know which one is right for you? We’ve put together our top tips for choosing the right car and getting the best deal online. Budget and research Before you start daydreaming of that new car parked on your drive, sit down and work out exactly what you can afford to spend. You’ll need to consider the total cost of ownership including the car itself, insurance, maintenance, tax, fuel and even delivery costs. It’s also worth considering which fuel type is better, whether you should buy or lease and even the possibility of going electric. Once you’ve done this, you can begin shopping.

Since many websites allow you to narrow down your search based on your requirements, this can save a lot of time browsing through cars that are out of your price range or just not suitable. Take your time and check out all the deals offered by different vendors – from dealerships to independent sellers. It’s good to know what the average cost of your chosen car is to prevent spending more money than you need to. Once you have a list of prospective vehicles, start comparing them to find the right one for you. Get used cars independently checked Buying a used car online can be riskier compared to buying brand new as you’re relying on the dealership or private seller being honest with their vehicle photographs and description. You should always be cautious as sometimes they might not be completely honest. It’s good practice to get an independent mechanic to check over the car to ensure that you’re getting exactly what’s advertised especially if it’s a long-distance purchase or your mechanical knowledge is limited. Don’t worry if the seller doesn't want to take the car to the garage to be inspected because there’s plenty of services that will go to the car's location instead.

Some of the most painful health conditions most common signs of a heart attack people can suffer with The are : The NHS has revealed some of the most painful health conditions people can suffer from. The list has a number of illnesses which can be so insufferable they can prevent people from doing simple, everyday tasks. Not all of the conditions on the list are curable, but they are manageable - with the help of medicine and a little support from loved ones. Some of the list comes as no surprise, while others certainly might do. Shingles Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is an infection of a nerve and the skin around it which usually affects a particular area on one side of the body. The main symptom is a painful rash that develops into itchy blisters which contain particles of the virus. An attack usually lasts between two and four weeks, but 20 per cent of sufferers go on to develop nerve pain in the affected area of skin. This pain can be severe and last for several months or even longer. Shingles can occur at any age, but is most common in people over the age of 70. It is much less common in children. Frozen shoulder Frozen shoulder means your shoulder is painful and stiff for months, sometimes years. The NHS says it means the joint can become so tight and stiff that it is virtually impossible to carry out simple movements, such as raising your arm. Daily activities can become an ordeal. It is not clear what causes frozen shoulder but it can happen after a shoulder or arm injury, and is more common in people with diabetes. Heart attack A heart attack is life-threatening and sees the heart muscle starved of oxygen-rich blood. Most are caused when the arteries narrow and fill up with fatty materials which prevents blood from flowing properly. Smoking and living an unhealthy lifestyle are major contributory factors in heart attacks, so regular exercise and maintaining a good diet are vital. But through no fault of their own some people are more prone to having them as heart disease can be hereditary.

Chest pain - tightness, heaviness, pain or a burning feeling in your chest. • Pain in arms, neck, jaw, back or stomach - for some people, the pain or tightness is severe, while other people just feel uncomfortable. • Sweating • Feeling light-headed • Becoming short of breath • Feeling nauseous or vomiting Migraine More than “just a headache” - migraine is a complex disabling neurological disorder, the Migraine Trust says. It explains: “For many people the main feature is a painful headache. Other symptoms include disturbed vision, sensitivity to light, sound and smells, feeling sick and vomiting. Migraine attacks can be very frightening and may result in you having to lie still for several hours. “The symptoms will vary from person to person and individuals may have different symptoms during different attacks. Your attacks may differ in length and frequency. “Migraine attacks usually last from 4 to 72 hours and most people are free from symptoms between attacks.“Migraine can have an enormous impact on your work, family and social lives.” Sciatica Sciatica is a back problem that affects the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body and runs from behind the pelvis down to your feet. Sciatica occurs if it becomes irritated or compressed in any way – this most commonly involves pressure being placed on the nerve by a slipped disc for example – and the pain will basically follow the path of the nerve, so what you’re describing in terms of it starting in the lower back and progressing through to your leg seems to fit with this. Other symptoms can include tingling sensations, a bit like pins and needles in the leg, cramp, and shooting pain that starts in the buttock region and travels swiftly down towards the foot. The pain of sciatica can vary from mild to extremely painful – to the point where in severe cases it is impossible to put any weight on the affected leg. Sciatica can affect just about anyone, but the younger you are, the less likely it is.

First residents to move into new housing development near Bristol as new show homes open
A housing development in Coalpit Heath has just opened three new show homes and is about to welcome its first residents. Work has been forging ahead at Blackberry Park since construction resumed following measures taken in response to the coronavirus pandemic, with the first houses now ready for occupation. The 5-star housebuilder has seen a huge upswing in interest since lockdown restrictions were eased. The number of people registering their interest in a Barratt or David Wilson development in the South West went up by 82% last month on the same period last year. Blackberry Park is surrounded by beautiful countryside views and lots of open space, with 204 two, three and four-bedroom homes being built as part of this new community. It's ideally located for commuters to Bristol who are keen to make the most of village life and the great outdoors, with residents even given the opportunity to have their own allotment.

The neighbouring village of Frampton Cotterell is home to the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding' Watermore Primary School, a Co-op and a range of traditional pubs, bars and restaurants. As part of the development project, Barratt Homes is making a contribution worth ÂŁ739,000 in total towards wider community improvements including outdoor sports facilities, allotments and recreational open space, as well as highways improvements such as investment in a new cycle path. Teacher Abbie Evans aged 24 and her partner Jed Sheppard, also 24, will be among the first residents to move into Blackberry Park. They've secured a three-bedroom home using the Government's Help to Buy scheme. The move marks a return to her family routes by returning to the village where both her mum and grandmother grew up.
"My nan lived in Coalpit Heath, and my mum grew up here - so I have lots of fond memories of my childhood locally," explains Abbie. "It seems like a lovely area to live in. It's not too busy and is quite villagey but we still have access to lots of things and good links to Bristol city centre." Andrea Pilgrim, sales director at Barratt Bristol, which covers the wider Bristol area, says: "It is fantastic to see Blackberry Park reaching such an important milestone with new residents moving into their new homes. We've had huge interest in the development, particularly from commuters to Bristol and families keen to make the most of the beautiful countryside on Coalpit Heath's doorstep. "With the Government having recently announced a stamp duty holiday for homes up to £500,000, and our own initiatives such as part-exchange and our NHS and Armed Forces deposit contribution schemes on offer, there's lots of different routes open to people so they can snap up their dream home."
The show homes and sales centre will be open by appointment only. A range of safety measures and new working procedures will be in place in the sales office including protective perspex screens, retractable barriers, strict social distancing and, where necessary, personal protective equipment (PPE), plus smart video- doorbell intercom systems to enable customers to engage with sales teams before entering offices. NHS workers and members of the armed forces are offered a 5% contribution, up to £15,000, on a new home at Blackberry Park under Barratt's NHS Deposit Contribution Scheme and Armed Forces Deposit Contribution Scheme. Barratt Homes' part-exchange scheme allows buyers to part exchange their current home for a new one. The M32 and Yate railway station are under 4 miles away from Blackberry Park, offering easy access to Bristol city centre. For those who need to travel further afield, the M4 and M5 can be reached within 15 minutes.
