Mission Statement

Ss. Peter and Paul St. Mary’s Blue Earth, Minnesota Winnebago, Minnesota We, the Catholic faithful of St. Mary and Ss. Peter and Paul Parishes, in Winnebago and Blue Earth, Minnesota, made God’s children in baptism, strive by grace to be faithful in Word and Sacrament in building up our community of faith, stewarding our God-given time, talent and treasure for the greater glory of God, for the catechesis and faith formation of all our members, for the relief of the needy and for the evangelization of the inactive and unchurched.

ROOTED IN FAITH REJOICE IN HOPE

In 2003, a social hall was built near the church at Ss. Peter and Paul. It was connected on the east end to the church and on the west end to the rectory. With that construction, the separation in the rectory between the residence and the public area was lost: The north end of the rectory, including the kitchen and dining room, was opened to the public. The dining room became a hallway and the kitchen public. In these past ten years, no one has changed this unhappy space.

Through the Rooted in Faith campaign, we hope to address these problems by moving the kitchen and dining room upstairs, joining the rest of the priest’s private quarters and leaving the first floor for the public. This will benefit not only the administrators in the parish offices, but pastors at Ss. Peter and Paul and St. Mary now and in the future.

ROOTED IN FAITH REJOICE IN HOPE

The Parish Center Building was constructed in the early 1960’s to serve as the education center for faith formation classes. Over the years, it has served that purpose and others well, as the parish faith formation program has changed.

Currently, it is home to faith formation classes for all ages. Elementary school students, teens, young adults, and adults meet in the building on various days of the week. It is also home to the parish office. As the building ages and the use of the facility increases, updates must be made. The bathrooms are not handicap accessible and the fixtures are worn, with some being unsanitary. The original heating units in each of the classrooms must be replaced as they are struggling to heat the rooms during the cold months and making the building excessively damp during the warm ones. Finally, a small kitchenette and electrical updates are necessary to keep the building functional and safe.

Funds raised through the campaign will be used to improve the building and make it a welcoming and efficient gathering space for parishioners of all ages.

Since 1861, Immaculate Conception Parish has served the farmers and laborers of Highland Township. Over thirty priests have served our community in that time. Masses began in the homes of some settlers; and in 1866, a “house of the church” was built. Another replaced it in 1903 – and was rebuilt after fire in 1922.

Today our parish continues this legacy of faith.

While we rejoice at the table of Christ on earth, our ancestors rejoice in his risen presence eternally!

To keep all that work at and visit our parish safe, we wish to repair and improve the stone on the walkway wall and the roof on the rectory garage. In addition, church leaders wish to raise funds for an emergency fund so that as maintenance projects surface, they can be immediately addressed. Finally, strengthening our cemetery care fund is necessary so that we can maintain and care for our sacred place of remembrance, comfort and hope.

The current boiler is aging and unreliable; it must be replaced. Next, the St. Felix Alumni Association wishes to renovate the auditorium restrooms. These facilities have served us for many years, but it is time to update them so that they will be handicapped accessible for our many parishioners and guests. Finally, should God bless us with additional funds, these dollars will go into a capital improvement fund so that unexpected or future projects can be addressed.

In an effort to serve our younger parishioners and families, St. Francis of Assisi has plans to improve the cry room. Doing so will make the space more user friendly while maintaining its use as a choir warm-up room before Mass and as a vesting area for altar servers. Improvements to the activity room are also needed; upgrading the amenities will transform the space. Additionally, St. Francis of Assisi will focus on new flooring in the Gathering Space; replacing the curtain behind the altar crucifix; and adding to the emergency repair and maintenance fund, as projects surface and costs are greater than what our annual budget covers.

St. Joachim Parish, in ultimate identity with the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church, and in loyal obedience to our Bishop and the Holy Father, seeks to courageously proclaim the Truth and Love of Jesus Christ to all people through Word and Sacraments, and to live the Faith in loving service to our parish and community for the salvation of souls.

A timeline of deferred maintenance projects has been prepared to determine priorities and anticipate needed action in all buildings, including all roofs, heating and cooling units, parking areas and walkways, maintenance equipment, and the priest’s residence.

The current campaign (2013-2017) will afford us the opportunity to provide at least partial funding in advance, so that our facilities may help us to remain “rooted in faith” and our successors may “rejoice in hope.”

When the new air conditioner is installed, the furnaces should be updated at the same time to decrease our fuel cost. Second, we need to add roof insulation so that our fuel cost will decrease even more. Next, minor roof repair is necessary due to a small leak near the bell tower. Finally, our blacktop parking lot needs to be resurfaced. When we meet and exceed our parish goal, we can make these projects a priority, ensuring our parish is a welcoming and safe place for generations to come.

The floor in the kitchen is also the original floor and has served its purpose. The faucets on the sinks should be replaced with gooseneck faucets to accommodate large pots and pans.

We believe that it is a responsible decision to use this appeal so that we are ready when one of our facilities requires care.

DeSmet Hall, which has been used for funeral luncheons for years, is in need of major renovations to make the space useable again. It is in need of new windows, electrical update, and kitchen update to make it usable for funeral luncheons.

The estimated cost of renovations is approximately $30,000.

The organ is in need of some TLC. Nothing major has been done with the organ since it was installed and it needs to be reworked so it operates well for years to come. The cost estimate is $15,000 to $20,000.

We would like to remodel the gift shop and have it well-stocked with Catholic items. The goal is to have it as the place to shop for all Catholic gifts in the area. This could become an income-producing area for the church. Cost of remodeling and inventory is approximately $10,000.

Repaint the interior of the church. The whole interior of the church will need to be repainted within the next 5 years. The plaster is starting to bubble and flake off in some areas. The estimated cost is over $100,000.

Any extra funds raised would be added to the building fund for future repairs.

In addition, we will replace the old railings and add a center railing. Finally, we will address the problem of the north steps, which are no longer used and only detract from the church’s beauty.
