Year 6 Exhibition

“I’m proud to share our Year 6 PYP Digital Exhibition with our School community. In groups, girls chose a Global Goal for Sustainable Development to research. Over seven weeks, they carried out the inquiry process, published a persuasive writing piece, completed a statistics investigation and created a digital art character. As a result of their learning, each group then carried out digital action. Some examples are animations, Scratch coding games, Minecraft, raps, iMovies and advice checklists.”

This year keeps on throwing curve balls! Term 3 is traditionally the term the Year 6 girls present their exhibition to their parents and their peers. This year we had to change the format – rather than it being a static display in the hall where guests moved around and the girls spoke about their research and action, it was a digital display. On Friday 21 August the girls had great fun sharing their learning with their peers and then the link was sent to their parents and families.

The exhibition represents a significant event in the life of both the School and student as it synthesises the essential elements of the programme the girls have been immersed in for the previous six years. This year, girls independently carried out an extended, collaborative inquiry project, under the guidance of their teachers. The girls explored case studies of organisations such as UNICEF, Auckland City Mission, World Wildlife Fund and World Vision. This dialogue helped the students to appreciate and explore multiple perspectives. Exhibition truly empowers students to work as a team and ensures that all group members learn, as well as encouraging them to be independent. What better way to graduate from PYP than to show your ability to think and act?
