FOOD DRIVE

The impacts of COVID-19 have been far-reaching on all New Zealanders, particularly those who are already vulnerable. In June, the Service Council ran a food drive to support the Auckland City Mission, which has been experiencing an unprecedented number of requests for food parcels from the local community. The Service Council partnered with the House leaders across both the Junior and Senior Schools to bring in as many food items as possible. The response from the School community was incredible and a total of 7250 food items were donated during the week of collections. The City Mission staff noted that this would fill 1200 food parcels and support about 2500 people in our community.

It was great to see the School spirit and positive energy from the girls as the Houses attempted to bring in the most items and earn House points. The winning house, Selwyn, was awarded the inaugural Service Cup by Deb Ward, Fundraising and Reputation Manager from the City Mission at the last Full School Assembly of term (pictured bottom left). The cup will become part of the House competitions in the future.

It’s been an incredible opportunity to serve our city in a very practical way and live out our motto Ut Serviamus.

CANCER SOCIETY VISIT

As part of our Service Learning programme, the Year 10 students partner with the Cancer Society to plan and run the annual Relay for Life. On 16 June, seven of our Year 10 girls attended a brainstorming session with staff at the Cancer Society’s Auckland Northland Division office. This was an exciting opportunity for our girls to discuss and contribute ideas to help engage secondary students in the annual Daffodil Day appeal. The Cancer Society staff were very impressed with the creativity and passion of the students and and plan to develop a number of their ideas as part of the national campaign.
