EU technical regulations on energy labeling have come into effect in Ukraine. What should users pay attention to?

odern homes typically have many electrical “helpers” that make daily life easier. They can be found in every corner of the home — from the kitchen to the bathroom or bedroom. One of the key factors when choosing new appliances is their energy efficiency rating. This indicator, shown on the product label, helps you quickly assess how energy-efficient a device will be and choose appliances that provide comfort without straining your budget. Changes to the energy efficiency labeling system, adopted by the EU in 2021, are gradually being implemented in Ukraine as well. This decision is driven by rapid technological advancements: most modern appliances already have the highest ratings under the old scale (A+, A++, A+++), making it difficult to distinguish their actual energy consumption.

The Essence of the New Classification

Transition Period and ARDESTO Labeling

The main change in the labeling system is a return to the A–G scale. The classification using “+” symbols has been abolished for certain product categories. This creates room for future innovations, as the highest class, A, remains largely vacant or reserved for the most advanced technologies at the initial stage. The changes primarily apply to: washing machines; dishwashers; refrigeration and freezing equipment. New energy efficiency labels have also been developed — they now include a QR code that allows users to access the official database and review the appliance’s technical specifications and energy consumption levels before purchasing.

The Ukrainian market is currently in a transition period, so products with both old and new labels are available for sale at the same time. It is important to understand that the technical specifications of the devices remain unchanged; only the method of calculation and the visualization of the energy efficiency class have been updated. Currently, the ARDESTO product range is being expanded with products that already feature energy efficiency labels in accordance with the new classification. When comparing this data, it becomes clear that the WMW-6105 washing machines, thanks to their BLDC inverter motor, achieve the highest level of energy efficiency even under the new, stricter criteria. At the same time, for chest

freezers such as the FRM362MCH, the scale was revised more drastically, resulting in a change in labeling from A+ to F.
