A trip to the Cromwell Museum

Pupils from Barnack Primary School had a fascinating trip back in time when they visited the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon. They won the trip in the October competition and had a wonderful day out.

It was all thanks to Harry who entered his class into the competition, and he wasn’t disappointed – ‘We got to dress up as musketeers, pikemen and cavalry men and it was very exciting!’ The Cromwell Museum is home to the best collection of items relating to the life and times of Oliver Cromwell on public display anywhere in the world. Harry and his friends had a fantastic morning spending half of their time in the museum looking at artefacts from Oliver Cromwell's life and even got to see the huge scale model of the Naseby ship, a special exhibition about the 17th century English Navy. They then went to the Town Hall to meet some civil war soldiers, where they learnt why the war started and all about the different weapons the soldiers used. The youngsters were shown how muskets worked and had plenty of fun when they finally got to dress up as civil war soldiers. Teacher Lauren Earth said it was the perfect prize – ‘The staff at the museum were really enthusiastic and knowledgeable - thank you for a lovely experience!’
