Head to Peterborough city centre and experience a unique day of musical performances, events and activities. Visit the stages in Queensgate, Cathedral Square and H&M and experience a diverse range of musical performers: choirs, orchestras, bands and soloists. All live, all local. Alongside the performances there are opportunities to participate and develop your own musicality. Make a ukulele, join a choir session or rekindle your recorder playing skills. At lunchtime, participating cafes and restaurants in Bridge Street, Long Causeway and Cathedral Square will be hosting the Lunchtime Takeover. Twenty performers in twenty venues; all starting at 1pm. Have your lunch in a participating venue and enjoy a live performance from one of Peterborough’s leading singer-songwriters. Finally, do not miss Peterborough’s very first Baby Loves Disco and Pop Lock In events. Hosted by Halo nightclub, these friendly and fun events offer families the chance to party together in a sophisticated but child-friendly environment.

The day begins with Peterborough Choral Society, a 70 strong choir, singing works from the great British choral tradition.

Bringing opera to the masses; Peterborough Opera performing works from their forthcoming performance of Bizet’s Carmen.

Beat This Orchestra

Providing musical opportunities for young people, the Beat This Orchestra merges contemporary and classical styles.

Stamford Choral

Stamford Choral is a large voice choir performing music from the classical sacred choral repertoire.

Celebrating young voices, Peterborough Young Singers performing pieces from their upcoming Big Sing!

Peterborough Presents…Ensemble

Led by composer Omar Shahryar and Britten Sinfonia, Peterborough Presents...Ensemble, is the culmination of a six month collaboration between Peterborough Choral Society, Cantus Polonicum, the City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra and the Dhol Ensemble. A truly unique musical performance that celebrates the creativity and talent of Peterborough’s music makers.

Camblast Promotions Stage 11.00am – 5.00pm

Pop Up Music Venue (TBA) From hardcore to hip hop: an eclectic line-up of local bands programmed by Camblast promotions. Expect to see Battle Royale, Channels, That Night that Forest Grew plus more…

The Emerge Stage 11.00am – 5.00pm

H&M, Queensgate

Showcasing Peterborough’s up and coming young musicians, the Emerge stage is a taste of what’s to come. Programmed by Emerge: Creative Producers Peterborough. Emerge provide training and support for artists aged 16-25. www.facebook.com/EmergePboro

Lunchtime Takeover 1.00pm – 1.45pm

Participating cafés & restaurants Stay for the day and enjoy your lunch with a live music performance. Twenty cafes and restaurants in and around Cathedral Square, Long Causeway and Bridge Street will be hosting performances from some of Peterborough’s leading singer/songwriters. From Argo to Sundays, Bewiched to Pizza Roma. Make sure you find a table for 1pm as performers including Meg McPartlin, Misty Jones and Flashback Photograph take to their stage. Look out for posters in participating venues. Free, but please do support your host venue.

Baby Loves Disco 1.00pm – 3.00pm Halo nightclub, Northminster, Peterborough PE1 1FJ

Baby Loves Disco is a daytime dance party for parents with babies, toddlers and young children (0-6 years) with real club DJs spinning and mixing retro floorfillers from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s with the latest pop tunes guaranteed to get you and your little ones moving and grooving – all at a baby friendly volume so the whole family can party together. Face painting, a chill-out zone with play tents, inflatables, instruments and toys, a full spread of healthy snacks and juice boxes, bubbles, balloons, baskets of scarves and egg shakers, arts and crafts or other quiet activities, dance floor games and competitions with giveaways and prizes and most importantly, everything for the children is included in the entry price. Under 1s go free. £3 a ticket for everyone else. Children must be accompanied at all times.

Pop Lock-In 4.00pm – 6.00pm Halo nightclub, Northminster, Peterborough PE1 1FJ An alternative to traditional entertainment for primary school children, this is an afternoon lock-in at the funkiest nightclub in town! The aim of Pop Lock-in is to provide children with an outlet to express themselves and socialise in an environment which celebrates popular culture. With a resident club DJs spinning and mixing only the very latest chart tunes and an expert street dance instructor getting the next generation of dancers and clubbers popping and locking. Away from the dance floor there’s a temporary tattoo parlour, neon hair streaking, dress-up, and jewellery making. All activities are included in the entry price. Under 1s go free. £3 a ticket for everyone else. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Have a go!

Don’t just listen, come along and join in with one of our free workshops. Try a choir session or rekindle your recorder playing skills. All workshops are held in Becket’s Chapel, just on your left as you enter the Cathedral Grounds through the main gate.

10.30am – 12.30pm

Recorders Galore

Recorders Galore perform a wide range of pieces from ancient to modern. Join this friendly workshop to learn and perform a range of songs. You’ll need to be able to play all the notes and sight read a piece, but apart from that your current playing standard is not important. So if you learned at school and always meant to take it further, or you are fed up of playing alone, then this is the workshop for you.

1.00pm – 2.30pm

Peterborough Young Singers

Peterborough Young Singers provide opportunities for young people, aged 7yrs-21yrs, to sing together to the highest standards. There are no auditions, all are welcome. In this taster workshop you’ll join some of the existing members as they rehearse and perform a range of popular songs from musicals. It’s the ideal opportunity to learn some singing exercises and see what a choir session is really like. At 2.30pm PYS are taking to the Cathedral Square stage and all workshop participants are welcome to join the performance.

3.00pm – 4.00pm

Gildenburgh Choir

The Gildenburgh Choir are a mixed voice choir who sing a range of popular music. In this workshop they invite both novice and experienced singers to join them for a relaxed and friendly choir session. No experience is needed and you do not need to sight read music. If you have ever thought about joining a choir then come along and see what choir life is all about. At 4.30pm the Gildenburgh Choir will be performing in North Square, Queensgate and all workshop participants are welcome to join with the performance. All workshops are free. The Utterly Butterly Tup-Up Shop Saturday 18 April, 10.00am - 4.00pm Unit 49, opposite Carphone Warehouse, Queensgate

As part of the Peterborough Presents…Music Takeover, a one day pop-up shop staffed by the Utterly Butterly Ukulele Tub-up team. Drop in for a Tub Up session and use an Utterly Butterly tub to make your very own ukulele. Once you’ve made your ukulele you’ll learn a few chords and that’s it, you’re a musician! Designed by a professional instrument maker, Utterly Butterly Ukes create a sound that rivals, and possibly beats, shop bought versions. Renowned for their simplicity ukuleles are the ideal instrument for anyone who wants to get musical in a relatively short period of time. Great for all ages; with their smaller size even younger children can have a go (although parents will have to help with the making). Children must be accompanied at all times. Drop in for a free session, no need to book.

Beat This is a Community Interest Company (or CIC), which is a social enterprise with a conscience. They use music and technology to help children, young people, adults and people with additional needs develop skills, interact and express themselves through music. www.beatthis.org.uk

Emerge: Creative Producers Peterborough

Musos 4 U

Peterborough Music Hub

Peterborough Music Hub was established as a result of the National Plan for Music Education and is funded by the Arts Council England. Peterborough Music Making supports and promotes amateur music making in and around the Peterborough area. Willow Festival

The Willow Festival will celebrate its tenth birthday in July 2015. Started in 1998 the three day event showcases 170+ live bands and solo acts attracting approximately 50,000 visitors each year.The festival is most probably the largest event of its type and remit in the world today. www.willowfestival.org.uk

Peterborough Presents… Peterborough Presents… is a consortium of organisations working together to create great art in our city. By great, we mean art that is new, diverse and, most importantly, relevant to local residents. To achieve this we are working with community representatives, voluntary organisations and artists to create and commission events and activities that will be enjoyed by people across the city. The Peterborough Presents… Music Takeover is one of our first events but there will be many more. Peterborough Presents… the city’s Creative People & Places programme, supported by ACE, PCC and NNF Bridge, and led by Vivacity in a consortium with Creative Peterborough, Metal, Step Up Community Association and Voluntary Arts.
