This is the first Dille guide of 2024. It’s going to be an exceptional year as it marks our 50th anniversary! Since being founded in 1974, our mission has always been the same: conscious enjoyment and living with care for one another and our world. As modern life speeds up, it makes sense to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.

Our seasonal range and this guide inspire customers to live in harmony with nature and enjoy those special moments.

This Dille & Kamille guide celebrates spring with tips for a lovely, seasonally-themed home as well as delicious recipes and DIY projects. It shares stories from and about our stores, and gets our anniversary year off to a roaring start with a number of limited edition- products. We will also be introducing a very special vegetable cookbook to you. It’s available in Dutch, German and French. I am enormously proud of the book which features fabulous recipes by Michelin-star chef Sidney Schutte. My huge thanks goes out to all those who worked so passionately on this project!

Cookbook ‘Vegetable party’

From salads and stews to oven dishes, elegant side dishes and naturally sweet vegetable desserts… 56 vegetables star in Sidney’s book, in recipes that can generally be prepared in advance. You can use the recipes to serve your friends or family an interesting menu, without having to spend your entire evening in the kitchen.

Sidney Schutte was schooled in the French culinary tradition and started his career at the famous Dutch restaurant, de Librije*** in Zwolle. He also developed an abiding passion for Asian cooking techniques that provide extra flavour, whilst keeping dishes easily digestible. An ideal combination for Dutch ingredients.

Dille & Kamille has aimed to inspire people to enjoy more consciously and live with attention, for the past 50 years. This is why, in conjunction with chef Sidney Schutte, we developed the cookbook Groentefeest ‘Vegetable party’!

100

Refreshing pea soup

Ingredients

Peas

• 1 kg peas in the pod/230 g shelled (or deep frozen)

• ½ clove of garlic, thinly sliced

• 1 Tbsp olive oil* (approx. 10 g)

Apple-cashew nut cream

• 3 green apples (Granny Smith)

• 90 g roasted cashew nuts + extra for garnishing

• 240 ml goat’s milk

• 30 Thai basil leaves + extra for garnishing

• 0.5 g Madras curry* (approx. ¼ Tsp)

• Salt*

• Juice of 1 lime

To serve

• 6 Thai basil leaves

• 60 g goat’s yoghurt (approx. 4 Tbsp)

Method

Peas

*Available at Dille & Kamille

• Bring water to the boil, then cook the peas for approximately 45 seconds. Drain, then allow to drip dry on some kitchen roll or a tea towel.

• Thinly slice the garlic. Heat the olive oil in a pan and briefly fry the garlic. Add the peas, stir, then adjust to taste with some salt. Set aside.

Apple- cashew nut cream

• Peel the apples, remove the cores, then cut into chunks. Blend the latter with the roasted cashew nuts, goat’s milk, Thai basil and curry powder until smooth using a blender. Pass the cream through a fine sieve, then adjust to taste with salt and lime juice.

Serve

• Chop 6 leaves of Thai basil. Mix these with the peas, then share between two soup plates.

• Pour the apple-cashew nut cream in the centre. Add two Tbsp of goat’s yoghurt, then finish with some extra chopped cashew nuts and Thai basil.

Pop up restaurant

In May we will be introducing our own pop-up restaurants!

Please join us at our temporary Dille & Kamille restaurants, which will be opened in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Reserve a table for a unique experience and enjoy a 5-course, plantbased dinner devised by Sidney Schutte, featuring recipes from our cookbook. Taste how delicious cooking with vegetables can be!

Dille members can reserve from 15 March 2024 onwards and other guests from 31 March onwards.

Price: 109.95 Euro per person, including a wine or mocktail pairing. There is limited seating available, so reserve promptly.

To me, Dille & Kamille is like coming home. As soon as I walk into the store, smell the herbs and tea, and hear Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in the background, I get nostalgic for my student days in Utrecht. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, I lived in student digs above the Dille & Kamille store at Oudkerkhof 46.

As soon as I opened my front door, the wonderful Dille smells and music would envelop me. I have warm memories of this amazing location in the beautiful city centre of Utrecht with the Dille & Kamille store (and Jeanette, the manager) as our downstairs neighbours. So unique!

My roommates and I were loyal customers as we bought endless liquorice and glazed, tulip-motif flower pots.

For us, Spring represents a fresh, new start making it the perfect time for a thorough clean. It’s nice to come home to a neat and tidy house so you can relax and ground yourself.

Green cleaning

Cleaning in an environmentally friendly, natural way is very ‘now’. Our natural cleaning agents make cleaning child’s play! They are safe, biodegradable and mild on nature: in other words, good for you, your home and the environment.

All you need to clean naturally are a few basic products. Marseille soap, bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and ‘black’ soap are truly multi-purpose and indispensable in every ‘green’ home. Besides cleaning agents, our stores also stock items for cleaning every nook and cranny of your home. From brushes, brooms and scrubbing brushes to feather dusters and dishcloths, all made from natural materials.

Cleaning heroes

Tea towels and dishcloths are indispensable in every kitchen as they can be used for a variety of cleaning chores. Our kitchen textiles are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton. This international standard for organic textiles indicates that our organic cotton was cultivated and processed in a responsible manner, with respect for both humanity and nature. Organic cotton doesn’t create lint, is very absorbent and easy to wash.

Good cleaning starts with a set of sturdy brushes. From cobweb brushes, washing-up brushes and bottle cleaners to handy, environmentally-friendly drain sticks and scrubbing brushes: we have handy, nice looking, brushes for every cleaning job. Our authentic Marseille soap is a natural product made from 72% olive oil. Want to make multipurpose cleaner or your very own handwash?

Grate a little Marseille soap into some boiled water and allow the soap to dissolve. Pour into a bottle or bucket, then top up with water if necessary.

Garden chores

Store news

Dille & Kamille keeps developing. The company continues to expand and we open new stores every year. To top it all, we will be opening our 50th store this year. Where? That’s a secret for the time being. We will keep you posted.

Besides new stores, we also continue to work on the existing ones. Early this year, it was our store in Ghent’s turn. The store was festively reopened on 6 March 2024 by store manager Simone and her team, after a thorough refit.

River. Ghent is a quaint city and we get to welcome a lot of regular customers as well as tourists. I love watching our customers enjoy themselves at our store. They often just come in to browse or to buy a single item. Seeing them leave, satisfied and with a basket full of products is truly the most fun part of our job as well as one of the biggest compliments customers can give us.

Although an old building with creaky floors had its charms, our store desperately needed a refit. We are enormously proud of the final results and the building is ready for the future now. It has become a wonderful, spacious store that sells something for everyone, including yourself.”

My memories of Dille…

Valuable traditions

I first walked into a Dille & Kamille store years ago, looking for a gift for my sister. She was expecting my cousin at the time and I wanted something special that was useful and meaningful. Wandering the aisles, a beautiful wooden shape sorter caught my eye. I instantly knew this would make the perfect present. One my cousin would enjoy for years. The shape sorter has since become my tradition and the gift I give to pregnant friends as it symbolises our friendship and love.

One day, before I had become pregnant, I was walking around Dille & Kamille and bumped into the old, familiar shape sorter which I immediately bought. It made me happy and gave me hope for the future which was a good thing too as pregnancy made me quite ill and the sorter kept me focusing on the future.

It is a truism that the little things in life sometimes mean the most. But, since then, Dille & Kamille has always been my favourite. I know I can always find something special there. Whether it be a hand-made soap for a friend, a set of herbs for my cooking obsessed partner or a colourful decoration for my festive, seasonal tables … I always succeed at Dille & Kamille.

However, it isn’t just the gifts that make Dille & Kamille so special. It’s the atmosphere, the staff’s friendliness and the warm feeling I keep getting when I enter a store. It’s the gift that is happily wrapped and then given with love. It’s the memories made that you fondly look back on. Thanks Dille & Kamille!

No trip to town without Dille & Kamille

I was born in Deventer (NL) and grew up with Dille & Kamille. As long as I can remember, there has been a Dille & Kamille store in the Walstraat. It’s always great to be there with all those inspiring items – practical, beautiful, timeless, seasonal. And the smell! So delicious and familiar. To me, Dille & Kamille was always inextricably linked to Deventer. I like to buy my supply of candles, napkins, drier balls, glassware or beautiful things for the festive season there. My children are also fans. All three (even the boys) love wandering around them every now and again. And, during our annual trip to Deventer, Dille & Kamille is still a must!
