Camilla Åmot Aarhaug Works… Camilla recreated the designs made by William Morris on her TC2 loom. Vibeke Vestby from Digital Weaving Norway takes us through what went behind the scenes! How to handle a challenge like this?
The design was first reduced to 12 colors, or rather - 12 hues of blue and green.The choice was to use 2 shuttles, and blend each of them towards the warp. Half the warp is white and half is black, which is brilliant in order to assess the impact of the wefts. First version: Satin of 8, 2 shuttles and the weave gradations are shifted horizontally
What’s on your Loom? On the screen, the plan looked OK, but when trying the design in the loom, the result came out too blurred. Next step was to clean up stray pixels and reduce the number of shades/weaves.
Then she applied more contrasting weft colors: pink, red and purple:
Left and Right half of the warp Next attempt was to use 3 shuttles and a satin of 12. In addition, colors with similar hues were merged, and single color pixels removed through using filters.

What’s on your Loom? The final design was woven with 3 shuttle colors and 4 weave structures for each.
Below is both the technical description and some notes on how the editing was done! A project should not be called complete until all notes are carefully collected and organized! But this is fabulous! With this new experience on how to make woven interpretations of the wallpaper designs of William Morris, Camilla simply made another one!

During the William Morris project, we exchanged comments on technical issues via WhatsApp: Not all my input was relevant (- or even correct!) But it is great to be able to discuss weave technical issues remotely!
