Lorem Ipsum What’s on your Loom? [Date] Institute…

Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava Works… In the last semester, we deepened our knowledge of weaving on the TC2 loom. We worked with multiple wefts and used the software Arahne. In one of semestral exercises, students created upholstery fabrics, which gave a complete facelift to the old chair in the school. – Text by Associate Prof. Blanka Cepková (Studio of Fiber Art)

Veronika Galasova (Student) “Intertwined”- Upholstery inspired by knitting technique. Design created Photoshop. Used satin weave, black polyester warp and white cotton weft.

Anna Fricova (Student) ”Flashback” - Design is drawn by hand and is a detail from a big tapestry realised on the TC2. Design weaves created in Photoshop. Used satin weave, black, polyester warp and brown cotton weft.

Jaroslava Frajova (Student) “Water Drops” - Inspired by photography - water drops. Design weaves created in software Arahne, Used satin weave, black polyester warp and blue cotton weft.


About …

The focus of the Department of Textiles ranges from free creation to design. During their studies at the Department, the students get familiar with textile as a fine-art instrument, which can help them to develop their surface and space perception. They learn about texture and structure of the material, about effect of its colouring as well as textile techniques. Thanks to new technologies (including our TC2 loom!), the Department intends to improve production procedures of new textile materials, textile designs, prototypes in fashion and textile design and experimental textile works.

Kristina Hanulova (Student) “Imaginary landscape” - Design drawn on Photoshop. It is an inspiration from microorganisms and landscape. Design weaves created in software Arahne. Used satin weave, black polyester warp and three-coloured cotton weft.

Bianka Kukurdikova (Student) “Sense” - It is inspiration from a portrait and is created on Photoshop. Used satin weave, black polyester warp and two colour cotton weft – white and grey.

Kristyna Sirkova (Student) “Intensification - Shadows of the Past” Design drawn by hand. It is a detail from big embroidery tapestry. Design weaves created in software Arahne. Used satin weave, black polyester warp and white cotton weft.

Eva Srubarova (Student) “How to Yawn” - Design inspiration is the yawn. Design created in Photoshop. Used own weave, black polyester warp and multiple-coloured cotton weft.


Beรกta Grebรณcovรก, head of Preparatory Course of Textiles, made a fabric, which was used as upholstery for pillows. The design was made as a computer graphic and interpreted structures of stone. The fabric was transformed into the shape of pillow and is being used in the common living space. Beรกta wove on black synthetic warp and used a pink polyester fiber as the weft. (Refer to the three following pictures)
