Dear Graduates: Each person graduating from Westbrook College leaves here changed by the experience. We know you are older; we hope you are wiser, more mature, more skilled, more developed intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Your years at the college have changed you.

And you have changed the college. Your participation in the life of the c o l l e g e — i n the classroom, in activities, in your relationships with other students and the f a c u l t y — h a s made the college d i f f e r e n t — a n d better.

Change, as the cliche has it, is the only constant.

But change is not always for the better. Change happens, whether you like it or not. Some changes are beyond your control, but the purpose of education is to help you shape change so that at the other end of the process you and those around you are better.

That means setting goals and working toward them, modifying as necessary but keeping your sights firmly set on an outcome.

If your education at Westbrook College was successful, you have learned to accept, and indeed to embrace, change. But you have also learned to shape change, to identify what changes you want and then work toward them systematically and persistently.

As a graduate of Westbrook College, you are a changed person. And the college has been changed because of you. Now you have a wider scope for implementing change, in yourself and in others. What you have learned here should help you change n m o r e — a n d to make the changes even better.

August 27, 1993 was the day that the resident freshmen arrived at Westbrook College.

When they took their first look at college life, they found it not so exciting; after all, carrying arm-loads of belongings to their rooms wasn't what they wanted to be doing, especially when it was over 90° outside.

Orientation weekend was jam packed with things that these new freshmen had to do; placement tests, meetings with the RA's and PALS, getting to know everyone, decorating, and more meetings. The least popular event was taking the placement tests. Nobody wanted to take a test this early in the school year — what was its purpose anyway?

The highlight of the weekend was Sunday night. This was the night of the boat ride on Casco Bay. The cool, summer night was a great way for all involved to relax before the school year began. % ^$Mt&

The holiday ball took place in December.

The ball was originally going to be held at the Best Western in South Portland but due to lack of interest, the ball was held in Wing Lounge. Dinner was served prior to the ball in Westbrook's own cafeteria.

There was a DJ spinning the tunes, but there was also Laser Karaoke. This, as usual, was a fun site to behold as students did their best to sound like their favorite stars. This night was enjoyed by everyone who attended. It was a great way to release some stress before finals.

Comedy night took place in early April. This was a fun-filled night highlighted by Bob Marley who had many more jokes up his sleeves. Bob, who made yet another visit to Westbrook, was quite disappointed to find that Captain Cafe was nowhere to be found. But, this didn't stop him from his usual joking and everyone that went had a great time.

Another first for Westbrook College happened on this night: the cash bar. This went over with great success. Everyone was well mannered — much to the pleasure of the administration. This was indeed a time for fun and everyone that went to Comedy Night had just that — fun.

Westbrook College visited Montreal twice this year. The first trip took place in November and because it was enjoyed by everyone another trip was planned, this time in May. However, due to last minute projects and finals, not everyone who wanted to go could. Among the sites that Westbrook students took in included: Le Musee des Beaux Arts, the Botanical Gardens, the Olympic Stadium, and the many clubs that Montreal had to offer. The bus driver for the second trip took us on a tour through the city and brought us to a Bavarian restaurant for dinner. It was a time enjoyed by all.

Charter Day was held on March 2 this year and focused on Westbrook College in the 1960s.

In the morning, a panel discussion was held by Professor Richard Roberts, former administrator Mary Lou Kiley, and several alumnae, who discussed life at Westbrook Junior College in the 1960s. During lunch, the assembled masses enjoyed music from the sixties and slides of the College from the decade, and got to see photos of what the current faculty looked like back in those days. In the evening a sixties dance was held in Wing Lounge, featuring some of the greatest hits of the era.

To the 1993-94 Tower Staff: Last year, when I said that I wanted to help get the yearbook started again, I had no idea how time consuming the yearbook was going to be. Every Sunday night, sometimes even Wednesday, was spent down in the yearbook office. I know that it was very frustrating for all of us involved; especially when only a couple of people showed up (which happened quite often). Yet, we still got the job done.

This was a difficult and challenging endeavor for me but all of you helped me along the way. No matter how small your contribution was, I greatly appreciate it!! I would like to thank those of you who I could not have done this without (which was everyone). Julie — thank you for answering all of my harried questions. I know there were many! I know there were times when you may have wanted to strangle me (thank you for not)! Joe and Adam — two wild and crazy guys! What can I say? Thank you, thank you, thank you, for making me laugh and for all your work! Leah and Amy — thank you for taking the time to help out. I appreciate you both taking the time to make this work! Iat — thank you for doing everything that I asked you to do! Your section looks great! Chad — thank you for everything (especially your artwork on the chalkboard!!!).
