"An organization on campus that is open to all interested persons, to help students of the Westbrook Community to be recognized," is quite often what people soy about STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION. In addition, we return our gratitude by our involvement in the Greater Portland community. In recent years, S.G.A. hos token upon itself to be involved with many policy changes on campus that directly affect our students. This year is no exception! In doing so, we hove redefined our Philosophy so that we become more and more involved l,;eeping the institution more adoptive to the rapid changes toking place . Our number one priority in achieving this goal hos been to listen to the students' concerns and needs, while still maintaining our relationships with College administration and faculty, thus creating a comfortable environment for both living and learning. We strongly be lie ve that no t only a sound education, but a positive attitude towards our school ore l<iey ingredients for a happy and successful College experience. Our accomplishments this year hove greatly added to this philosophy: * W .C. hos a weightroom it con coll its own * Plans ore on paper for a student center * A forum hos been established to voice all student concerns and needs * Committees ore represented by students in issues directly and indirectly affecting them. Without strong student support, w e , the student government association, realize that the quality of education and the social well-being of Westbrool<i will diminish. Our accomplishments ore being recognized, and our a ttitudes ore bey ond enthusiastic. We belie ve tha t students ore what mol<ie a college, and this year Student Government hos certainly proven it!

111

The Junior Deans ore a very special sub-group of the Student Government Association, and ore considered to be the Senior Representatives of the student body. This year we hove worl ... ed verY closely with the other members of the Student Government Association in defining the needs and ex¡ pectotions of the student community, designing appropriate goals and objectives and finally, developing ways of meeting these goals. In addition to our Student Government responsibilities the Junior Deans ore traditionally involved in volunteer worl ... . During the popular Parent's Weel... end in October, the Junior Deans sponsored a " Casino Night.'' The money raised during this important weel ... end, with the help of the faculty , staff, parents and students, is donated to the Student Scholarship Fund . Thonl<;s to the hard worl.., and dedication of all the Junior Deans, the weel ... end's gala of events was quite successful. In November, the Junior Deans started a " Thonl... sgiving 13osl... et Project." This was the project 's first year, but we intend to incorporate it into our many other traditions. Just before Christmas, the Junior Deans shored a very special evening with approximately twentY underprivileged children from the Portland area . This is l<;nown as the " Mitten Tree Porty." In December, we also hosted a " Holly 13runch," a traditional brunch when faculty ore invited to shore the joy of the Christmas season with the students. The occasion all freshmen remember best? - Condlelighting Ceremony . As Junior Deans, we en¡ joy the privilege of conducting a worm and friendly welcoming ceremony for the new freshmen . Ir was on emotional, uplifting ceremony that none of us w ill ever forget.

We also set up on " Adopt-A-Resident Program " to help the residents and commuters get to know one another better. Westbrook Wings

The WINGS originated in the Spring of 1985 as the result of a request by President Thomas Courtice. He desired that a running team be formed which would represent Westbrook Colle ge in inte rcollegiate cross country competition as well as lo cal road races. The team concept includes anyone who desires to participate in aerobic exercise . They may choose to work toward improving their performance le vel as an end in itself, or participation in team competition with other colleges in the state, and/or testing themselves in road races. All levels of participation are encourage d.

" Cross to center! " "Come downstage a few steps! " "Con I go over that line again?" Do you wont lights two and three on full? " Sounds of a busy rehearsal fill Ludeke Auditorium as the Westbrook College Theatre Guild prepares for on upcoming production. The 1986-87 year sow the production of two major ploys, " Isn ' t It Romantic?" by Wendy Wosserstein and "Something to Hide " by Leslie Sands. In the first ploy , two young women challenge life and love as they question their relationships with parents and men to discover that, as women, they " never really knew how life was supposed to be ." The second ploy , produced in Spring 1987, questions romance in quite a different way. A writer and his rich wife scramble to cover a crime (the wife 's hit-and-run killing of her husband's mistress). Dlockmoil , violence and mistaken identity ore a few of the plot's twists that police officer Davies must follow before discovering the real criminal in this psychological suspense thriller. The Theatre Guild is open to all Westbrook College students. With Dr. Chris Jackson as our faculty advisor, the Theatre Guild offers students the opportunity to explore their interests in drama before and behind the curtain . Students study drama in class and attend ploys locally, as well as toke port in two Westbrook productions yearly . Westbrook College Theatre Guild Productions: Spring 1986 " Staged Stages:" Scenes from " A Midsummer Night's Dream " William Shakespeare and " The Little Foxes" - L(llion Hellman.
