Throughout her years at Westbrook Junior Col-

lege she has served most capably as a member of the English Department and as Executive Secretary to the President of the College.

Her efficiency in fulfilling

these duties has been complemented by her great loyalty and devotion to the ideals of this school.

Those who have been privileged to participate in her courses will always be grateful for the challenge that she has presented to them.

Her intelligence

and keen sense of humor have made her a valuable member of the Westbrook Family.

Mrs. Healy's sincere willingness to help others has contributed to the close bond between faculty and students.

Regardless of her busy schedule, she al-

ways has time to talk over individual problems.

Enthusiasm is a word which seems to have been made especially for Mrs. Healy.

Her genuine interest in campus activities has added much to the West-

brook spirit.

Thank you, Mrs. Healy, for the fine example you have set for all Westbrook girls.

You deserve to be called friend as well as teacher.

DAY HOPS W h e n school first opened m a n y of us w e r e nervous a n d confused, but our tensions w e r e lessened as w e quickly grasped the f r i e n d l y atmosphere of W . J. C. A l l of us w i l l remember i n i t i a t i o n a n d the m a n y comical incidents.

To top it off,

Barbara Stacey w a s the w i n n e r for the best costume.

If one visited the Day Hop Lounge the students w o u l d be f o u n d k n i t t i n g , p l a y i n g cards, listening to the r a d i o , p l a y i n g the p i a n o , a n d of course, s t u d y i n g .

Houghton is the spirit-filled home a w a y from home where everything is done in unison and harmony. Everyone pitches in to make the house shine, and to prepare meals for hungry mouths. We hope to put these homemaking skills into use in the near future.

We have many privileges at Houghton, but the one w e treasure the most is that of the use of the kitchen. Our diets don't stand a chance, but one can hardly resist a hearty snack before bed after a rugged night of studying. " M o m " Johnson has lent her patient motherly ways to give the house a wonderful homey atmosphere. Our very capable and friendly officers are: Ellie Burke, President; Judy Greenan, Vice-President; Janet Cerveny, Secretary; Almira Robinson, Treasurer. Joan Chase does an excellent job of keeping things running smoothly as captain of crews, and Jo-Anne Swett, Judy Bice, and Lois Forsberg, do wonderful jobs as Social Chairman and Fire Chiefs, respectively.

It has been a wonderful year where we have shared in good times, worked hard, and made many lasting friendships.

WOMEN'S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Each year the Athletic Association, consisting of those members of the student b o d y interested in p a r t i c i p a t i n g in Westbrook's athletic p r o g r a m , is m a n a g e d by a council of a p p r o x i m a t e l y sixteen girls. This council, a l o n g w i t h the Physical Education Department, w o r k s h a r d d u r i n g the y e a r to conduct all t o u r n a m e n t s ; p l a y - d a y s w i t h other colleges; skating parties; M a r o o n & G r a y , Interhouse, Varsity, a n d Junior Varsity activities, such as field hockey, b a s k e t b a l l , Softball, a n d tennis.

The senior officers, leaders, a n d managers are elected by the entire student b o d y a n d are announced at the Spring A w a r d s Banquet held in M a y . In the f a l l the f o u r f r e s h m a n officers are elected. The f o u r officers this year include: Nancy Dunnell, President; Penny C h a p m a n , Vice-President; Ellie Burke, Treasurer; Evie S w a n s o n , Secretary.

This y e a r the Council sponsored a skating p a r t y at Colby College in the f a l l , a sports d a y w i t h Colby Junior College, a student-faculty v o l l e y b a l l g a m e , a n d has served refreshments to the visiting teams. The latter w a s done w i t h the helpful assistance of the Junior Council, whose job it is to a i d the Senior Council by acting as assistant m a n a g e r s , referees, timers, a n d scorers for games. The Day Hops proved their basketball skill by w i n n i n g the Interhouse Trophy.

One of the highlights of the college y e a r is the Winter C a r n i v a l W e e k e n d , h a n d l e d by the executive b o a r d of the association. The theme f o r this year's c a r n i v a l w a s " S n o w Flake Festival" w i t h an ice show, interhouse snow sculpture competition, a n i n f o r m a l Ski Tog Dance, skiing at Pleasant M o u n t a i n , the StudentA l u m n i Basketball G a m e , a n d the f o r m a l , "Crystal C o t i l l i o n , " held at the Portland Club on State Street, w i t h music p r o v i d e d by J i m m y Hansen a n d his orchestra.

The dance w a s h i g h l i g h t e d by the c r o w n i n g by President Blewett of our W i n t e r C a r n i v a l Q u e e n , Ellie Burke, w h o w a s General C h a i r m a n for the w e e k e n d .

VARSITY HOCKEY Although this year the Westbrook Junior College hockey team did not win all of its games, it had a very enjoyable season.

JUNIOR DEANS The Westbrook W a y is truly exemplified by the Junior Deans. These girls strive to set examples of friendliness, maturity, and loyalty to their school.

Their purpose is to bring the Westbrook family closer together, acting as junior advisors and being responsible for various duties and activities throughout the year.

Under the capable leadership of Ellie Burke, President; Paula Perry, VicePresident; Rolinda Durgin, Secretary; and Carol Oldenbrook, Treasurer, they have been able to carry on the outstanding work this year that Junior Deans have done in the past.

Early in the fall they met the incoming freshman class and guided them through their first week of school. Next year's Junior Deans will be elected by the vote of the students and faculty. The selection will be made by the retiring Junior Deans at the traditional "tapping" ceremony during M a y Weekend â&#x20AC;&#x201D; a memorable event for those who attend.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS CLUB The International Relations Club sponsored several activities this year on campus.

At Christmas time a group went caroling at convalescent homes.

lowing mid-semester break, the club organized the annual student-faculty basketball game, and in the Spring a group went on a field trip to the White Mountains.

STUDENT DELICIOUS ASSOCIATION The Student Religious Association joined with the Student Council in sponsoring the annual Christmas party for the underprivileged children of Portland.

Coffee-pot discussions were held periodically during the year, and several movies were shown.

RETAILING CLUB The Retailing Club is made up of Retailing majors and other girls who are interested in activities which are related to this broad and varied field.

SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club e n j o y e d another active a n d successful year. CAWTIR CLUB Canter Club membership is open to a n y Westbrook girl w h o rides either for g y m credit or Equitation. During the course of the school year the club provides b r e a k f a s t - a n d supper-rides, a Christmas p a r t y , a style show w i t h English a n d Western clothes modeled by members of the club, a n d competition meets w i t h various other r i d i n g clubs in this a r e a .

The climax of the Canter Club's activities is the Horse Show d u r i n g M a y W e e k e n d , at w h i c h time the Phillip Selberg Trophy is a w a r d e d the Senior girl w h o has contributed the most t o w a r d s the Canter Club.

OUTING CLUB D u r i n g this past school y e a r the O u t i n g Club has sponsored various activities for all girls interested in " l i v i n g it u p " outdoors. The d a y trips to Mt. Pleasant a n d Cushing Island w e r e t h o r o u g h l y enjoyed by everyone. Frequent w e e k e n d trips to North C o n w a y p r o v e d to be unusually successful since everyone f o u n d something to participate in â&#x20AC;&#x201D; f r o m skiing to d a n c i n g . The O u t i n g Club also helped sponsor our a n n u a l W i n t e r C a r n i v a l by p l a n n i n g the "Ski Tow J a m b o r e e . " To b r i n g to a close its festivities f o r the y e a r , the club held its a n n u a l Spring Lobster O u t i n g .

GLEE CLUB The Glee Club under the able direction of Mr. M a r s h a l l Bryant, a n d accomp a n i e d by Mr. Richard Roberts, has had an e n j o y a b l e year of artistic satisfaction a n d achievement.

The Glee Club has participated in several convocation services including a presentation of a Christmas t a b l e a u a n d a medley of Christmas carols.

FAUX PAS The Faux Pas g r o u p w a s first o r g a n i z e d in 1957 by five girls, a n d it is a l r e a d y considered one of the most p o p u l a r groups a r o u n d the W. J. C. campus.
