There were multiple new launches by Xiaomi, namely the Redmi Note 7 series along with Redmi Go. Xiaomi also continued to dominate the online channel with 48.6% share in 1Q19. Samsung continued in the second position with a YoY decline of 4.8% in 1Q19. The vendor revamped its product strategy by launching its online-exclusive M-series (which raised its online share to 13.5% on the back of the Galaxy M20) and its offline-exclusive A-series to counter the Chinese vendors. Offline channels are upbeat about the vendor's schemes and

Realme continued to feature in the top 5 vendors list, despite dropping to the fifth position in 1Q19. Its newly launched realme 3 series produced the highest shipments for the vendor. Originally launched as an online-focused brand, Realme realized the importance of an omnichannel presence with its quick expansion to offline channels; now almost one out of three Realme phones are sold offline.

IDC India Forecast Navkendar Singh, Research Director, Client Devices & IPDS, IDC India mentions "In 2019, we should expect further aggressive offline expansion by the online-heavy vendors in an attempt to get a wider footprint in smaller cities and towns. Having said that, the influence of the online channels and their focus on the smartphone business will continue. This will gain momentum in the all-important second half of the year since the affordability driving factors like EMIs/cashback offers continue to be top-of-mind attributes for consumers."

MARKET REPORT

HP Inc. Maintain its Leadership in Indian PC Market with 28.1% Market Share The India traditional Personal Computing (PC) market declined for the third consecutive quarter in 2019Q1 according to IDC's Asia/ Pacific Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker, 2019Q1. The market witnessed a year-on-year (YoY) drop of 8.3 percent with shipments reaching 2.15 million units in 2019Q1. The market remained weak outside big commercial deals due to weak consumer demand, high inventory from previous quarters, and supply issues for Intel chips. The announcement of central elections on March 10th, 2019 resulted in the model code of conduct coming into immediate effect further resulting in a delay in execution of government projects and impacting the commercial segment. Notebook category contributing 61.4 percent of the overall India traditional PC market shipments witnessed a 9.8 percent YoY decline. Within Notebooks, Ultraslim category, with a 25.3% share of the market, grew by 86.5%.

Segment Highlights The India consumer PC market witnessed a 26.5 percent dip compared to 2018Q1. The dip in the consumer segment was mainly because of low discretionary spending and seasonality. The low discretionary was partially also because of macroeconomic factors such as shrinking industrial output and slowdown in consumer spending. Demand from Online channel was also muted as it has been dealing with excess inventory pile up from the previous two quarters. Inventory correction from 2018Q3 stockpile up continued in 2019Q1 and is expected to be normal by Q2 end. However, the Gaming PC segment saw good traction through both online and retail as vendors decreased GPU prices resulting in a spike in demand. "Spending towards Ultraslim notebooks is increasing as owing to factors such as improved mobility due to the thinness of the product and enhanced aesthetics," says Bharath Shenoy, Market Analyst, PCs, IDC India.

before taking any major decision due to ongoing elections in 2019Q2; the model code of conduct came into the picture in 2019Q1, thereby delaying the Government and Education projects. Demand from BFSI and IT/ ITES sector remained good in 2019Q1 but the main segment driver was ELCOT," adds Shenoy.

Top 3 Company Highlights: HP Inc: While HP Inc. maintained its leadership with an overall market share of 28.1 percent in 2019Q1, it saw a year-on-year decline of 9.7 percent mainly due to consumer segment which declined by 21.3 percent over 2018Q1. However, HP's Ultraslim notebooks witnessed steady consumer traction from its exclusive stores and large format retailers. In the commercial segment, however, HP did not see any major dip in shipment despite elections leading to delayed projects. Dell Inc: Dell Inc. retained the second position with a 25.9 percent market share in the overall India traditional PC market in 2019Q1; with a year-on-year growth of 2.2 percent and a quarter-on-quarter growth of 26.7 percent. Dell Inc.'s commercial business witnessed a 25.9 percent year-on-year growth owing to prioritization of India market by Dell to provide the necessary supply of Intel chips resulting in the execution of some projects which were delayed in 2018Q4 due to same issues and also helping them improve their performance in Government, BFSI and IT/ITeS sector.

Lenovo: Lenovo remained at third position, with a market share of 25.2 percent in 2019Q1 in overall India traditional PC market, observing a 6.2 percent year-on-year growth and a growth of 29.2 percent sequentially. The vendor also witnessed a dip in consumer segment like all other vendors, while on the commercial segment, it witnessed a massive quarterly growth of 70.8 percent driven by partial execution of ELCOT deal, since Lenovo is the sole executor of this project.

India PC Market Forecast: IDC anticipates the overall India traditional India PC market to witness a growth in 2019Q2 over last quarter driven by further shipment of ELCOT. The commercial market is expected to pick up post new government formation in end of May. "The consumer market is expected to pick up largely driven by back to school campaign by vendors and online sales creating a pull to attract consumers through various schemes and financial incentives such as EMIs/ Cashbacks," says Nishant Bansal, Senior Research Manager, IPDS & PCD, IDC India. "Commercial spending due to refresh and fresh demand by large and medium enterprises is expected to continue led by Education, BFSI, and IT/ITeS sector. The public sector is expected to pick up post elections, once the new Government comes into power," adds Bansal.

The overall commercial PC market saw a total shipment of 1.35 million units in 2019Q1, a growth of 7.3 percent YoY. The growth in the commercial segment was primarily driven by ELCOT shipments of around 159000 units which got partially executed in 2019Q1. "Business sentiment has been on the lower side as enterprises look to wait and watch

SERVER DEFENSE

Sophos Adds EDR Technology to Intercept X for Making Servers More Secure With Sophos Intercept X for Server with EDR, IT managers at businesses of all sizes now have visibility across an entire estate. This allows them to proactively detect stealthy attacks, better understand the impact of a security incident and quickly visualize the full attack history. Sophos announced Intercept X for Server with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR). By adding EDR to Intercept X for Server, IT managers can investigate cyberattacks against servers, a soughtafter target due to the high value of data stored there. Cybercriminals frequently evolve their methods and are now blending automation and human hacking skills to successfully carry out attacks on servers. This new type of blended attack combines the use of bots to identify potential victims with active adversaries making decisions about who and how to attack. The SophosLabs Uncut article, Worms Deliver Cryptomining Malware to Web Servers, underscores how easy it is for cybercriminals to leverage bots to discover soft targets. The report explains an automated attack that can deliver a wide range of malicious code to servers that, as a class, tend to lag behind normal update cycles. Anatomy of a Blended Cyberattack Once the bots identify potential targets, cybercriminals use their savvy to select victims based on an organization’s scope of sensitive data or intellectual property, ability to pay a large ransom, or access to other servers and networks. The final steps are cerebral and manual: break in, evade detection and move laterally to complete the mission. This could be to quietly sneak around to steal intelligence and exit unnoticed, disable backups and encrypt servers to demand high-roller ransoms, or use servers as launch pads to attack other companies. “Servers are often overlooked in the IT strategy of companies, hence it is time we realize that servers are critical infrastructure. said Sunil Sharma, WWW.DIGITALTERMINAL.IN

Managing Director Sales for Sophos India & SAARC. “As most malwares today are automated , it has become easier for attackers to find organizations with weak security postures. Cybercriminals use stolen information for their own spearphishing campaigns and crime sprees, and can even resell these at a premium on the Dark Web or to a private network of buyers. This way an entire company could get potentially wiped out if cybercriminals infiltrate its servers with ransomware or malicious code, or exploit vulnerabilities to gain access. Unfortunately, the mission critical nature of servers restrains Sunil Sharma, Managing Director Sales , Sophos India & SAARC. many organizations from making changes, often significantly delaying businesses resolve issues much faster patch deployment.” and prevent them from a repeat data breach.” said Sharma. “If regulators Sophos explains how blended rely on digital forensics as evidence cyberattacks work in this video, Intercept of lost data, then businesses can rely X for Server with Endpoint Detection and on the same forensics to demonstrate Response (EDR). that their data has not been stolen. FACE 2 FACE “Channels Are One of the Most Important Pillars of Our Business” In an era of Digital Transformation, companies are more concerned about the security of their digital assets. Cybersecurity is one of the major concerns for enterprises. In addition, a new form of risk - digital risk has emerged now and needs to be managed effectively. RSA is a prominent name in the security domain and provides security solutions to all sizes of companies. In a recent conversation with DT, Rajnish Gupta, Regional Director–India & SAARC, RSA (A Dell Technologies company) provided insights about the evolving threats, solutions and channel plans for the Indian market. Rajnish Gupta, Regional Director–India & SAARC, RSA (A Dell Technologies company) DT: How do you see the overall growth of the cybersecurity market in India? Rajnish: I would like to take this a little higherthink most of the organisations are going digital - they are adopting digital technologies more than what they were in the past. With the adoption of digital technologies, more digital risks are coming out and technology is getting into products and services where it never existed. From that perspective, it is a good market to be in. Businesses are also realizing that they have a larger risk. A new form of risk - digital risk, needs to be managed and it is larger than the security or cyber risks that they use to have earlier. If we were to slice the market, three segments that are very aggressively looking at safeguarding digital assets are banking & financial institutions, IT- ITES organisations because they are more regulated. The public sector or the government is also very much concerned as they also have a lot of focus around safeguarding newer initiatives. So, the trends we are really seeing in cybercrime scenario today are• The growing use of mobile to commit cybercrime • Adoption of legitimate digital platforms for illicit activities • Use of advanced technologies to both commit and fight cybercrime. DT: What are the current trends for cyberattacks especially in India? Rajnish: The kind of trends, which would emerge due to the adoption of digital technologies from a cyber-risk or digital risk perspective, is that there would be so many things which are unknown and there will not be any technology which can really manage those unknown. So, it has to be well thought through the process of mitigating those risks, it cannot be a point solution, it has to be a journey. Now, if we just take mobile as an example of digital transformation, we can see how cybersecurity and fraud have changed from a computer browser-based attack to a mobile rogue app-based attack. That is the 18 I

I JUNE 2019

kind of transformation we will see even on the fraudster’s side. Over the last year only, we have seen 680% increase in fraud transaction over mobile applications as against the year before that. So, the fraudsters will be ahead of us possibly because the good guys are reactive while fraudsters are ahead of us and they use technologies more than what we do. DT: How do you see the major challenges for CTOs that they face in current scenarios? Rajnish: CTOs and CTDOs know their businesses more than anybody else does, better than the fraudsters. Therefore, the key in today’s world would be - knowing the business, knowing the business risks, and helping draw a mitigation plan around the problem rather than just throwing technology to a problem. DT: How do you play an important role in helping companies secure digital assets? Rajnish: We are poised to be the front-runners and we are creating this market segment, which we call it as digital risk management. Everybody knows RSA as a cybersecurity company and we have been existing for last almost 35 years. I do not think there is any other standalone cybersecurity company that has existed for so many years. We have a strong portfolio of integrated risk management. RSA is poised to be the leader in terms of helping our customers manage digital risks better. Our vision is to help them draw a safe passage to the digital future. DT: How do you sell your products or solutions in the Indian market? How do you support your channel partners? Rajnish: Absolutely, channels are one of the most important pillars of our business- 100% of our business is through channels and we have a huge focus on upskilling our partners, both on the technology side as well as on the selling side. Our channel policies are absolutely focused around channel partners. We understand that most of

the channel today is driven by services revenues and whenever we really sell our technology, there is at least 40-50% of services involved in every technology. That is what we really bring on the table for our channel partners to focus aroundservices as well as advanced technologies, things that could really take to customers. DT: What are your channel expansion plans for the Indian market? Rajnish: We have sufficient partners already in each region. Therefore, from a geographic coverage perspective, I would say there are enough partners. We feel there are more security partners already but there is always a place for niche and very focused security partners in the industry. We have two sets of partners. The national partners- partners who have a national presence, special integrators, and national system integrators. Then we have regional partners, who are focused on specific regions, we engage with these partners in those specific regions. In addition, we also have our distributor partners like Inflow, Redington and others who really support these partners to do the commercial transaction. DT: What technical support do you provide to your customers? Rajnish: There are two things; firstly, we run a 24*7 technical support centre. One of those centres is based out of Bangalore, India. So, one of the shifts is run out of Bangalore itself while for all our customers, our basic support is available 24*7. Secondly, we do have a professional services team for one-time implementation and for some kind of consulting activities. That is very niche though; we have our limited resources there and we try to leverage partner resources for professional services. Wherever our partners do not have skill set, we try to bridge the gap for our customers. We do have a professional services team but their role is to really augment or support our channel partner capabilities to bring solutions to RSA customers, wherever they do fall short of skills.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

75% of Large Organizations Will Hire AI Behavior Forensic Experts to Reduce Brand Risk by 2023: Predicts Gartner

Increasingly, sectors like finance and technology are deploying combinations of AI governance and risk management tools and techniques to manage reputation and security risks. In addition, organizations such as Facebook, Google, and NASA are hiring or have already appointed AI behavior forensic specialists who primarily focus on uncovering undesired bias in AI models before they are deployed. Users’ trust in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions is plummeting as incidents of irresponsible privacy breaches and data misuse keep occurring. Despite rising regulatory scrutiny to combat these breaches, Gartner Inc. predicts that, by 2023, 75% of large organizations will hire AI behavior forensic, privacy and customer trust specialists to reduce brand and reputation risk. Bias based on race, gender, age or location, and bias based on a specific structure of data, have been long-standing risks in training AI models. In addition, opaque algorithms such as deep learning can incorporate many implicit, highly variable interactions into their predictions that can be difficult to interpret. “New tools and skills are needed to help organizations identify these and other potential sources of bias, build more trust in using AI models, and reduce corporate brand and reputation risk,” said Jim Hare, research vice president at Gartner. “More and more data and analytics leaders and chief data officers (CDOs) are hiring ML forensic and ethics investigators.” Increasingly, sectors like finance and technology are deploying combinations of AI governance and risk management tools and techniques to manage reputation and security risks. In addition, organizations such as Facebook,

Google, Bank of America, MassMutual and NASA are hiring or have already appointed AI behavior forensic specialists who primarily focus on uncovering undesired bias in AI models before they are deployed. These specialists are validating models during the development phase and continue to monitor them once they are released into production, as unexpected bias can be introduced because of the divergence between training and real-world data. “While the number of organizations hiring ML forensic and ethics investigators remains small today that number will accelerate in the next five years,” added Mr. Hare. On one hand, consulting service providers will launch new services to audit and certify that the ML models are explainable and meet specific standards before models are moved into production. On the other, open-source and commercial tools specifically designed to help ML investigators identify and reduce bias are emerging. Some organizations have launched dedicated AI explainability tools to help their customers identify and fix bias in AI algorithms. Commercial AI and ML platform vendors are adding

capabilities to automatically generate model explanations in natural language. There are also open-source technologies such as Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) that can look for unintended discrimination before it gets baked into models. These and other tools can help ML investigators examine the “data influence” of sensitive variables — such as age, gender or race — on other variables in a model. “They can measure how much of a correlation the variables have with each other to see whether they are skewing the model and its outcomes,” said Mr. Hare. Data and analytics leaders and CDOs are not immune to issues related to lack of governance and AI missteps. “They must make ethics and governance part of AI initiatives and build a culture of responsible use, trust and transparency. Promoting diversity in AI teams, data and algorithms, and promoting people skills is a great start,” said Mr. Hare. “Data and analytics leaders must also establish accountability for determining and implementing the levels of trust and transparency of data, algorithms and output for each use case. It is necessary that they include an assessment of AI explainability features when assessing analytics, business intelligence, data science and ML platforms.”
