Wimberley Zipline Adventures The view above the valley on a hilltop is breathtaking. But when you’re tethered to a line with Wimberley Zipline Adventures, it’s even that much more exciting. Seeing the beautiful Wimberley Valley with a 360 degree view from up above is a wonder, with the creeks and canyons in their natural state, untouched at your feet. Learning about the ecosystem of the valley is the first step, the plants, the

wildlife and how they work with each other to keep the valley in its pristine state. A new appreciation of nature is assured. Then it’s time for the big ride. You might be a little apprehensive, but you are carefully harnessed in and off on a cable for the ride of a lifetime. Soaring above the treetops, immersed in your surroundings,

a total of 10 zip line crossings are achieved. The Wimberley Valley Zipline Adventure lasts about 1½ to 2 hours. Wimberley Zipline Adventures is located on County Road 1492, just about a mile from RR 12. Follow the signs. For more info, visit www. wimberleyzipline.com.

treats of the season are also sold and, depending on the month or weeks, peaches, watermelons and other summer treats can be found.

Every Wednesday, at the Visitors Center parking lot, from 3 to 6 p.m. vendors offer out the locally grown produce, fresh from the farm. Buying local is the way to go if you want the best vegetables of the spring and summer seasons.

And Wimberley being Wimberley, there’s sure to be some local craftsmen selling candles, baked goods and other unique items underneath a shaded tent. If you are visiting on a Wednesday, the Farmer’s Market is the place you ought to be.

While you’d expect to find produce at a Farmers Market, you’ll find so much more here. Artisan bread, locally roasted coffee, goat cheese, and other

Market Days Enjoy an entire day shopping Wimberley Market Days. PHOTO BY ROBERT ANSCHUTZ

If you’re ever in Wimberley on the first Saturday, March through December for the first time, you might be wondering what’s all the commotion and why is there so much traffic. Two words: Market Day. A long-time Wimberley tradition, the Lions Club Market Day has more than 450 vendors who offer crafts, antiques, plants, flowers, packaged food items and almost everything else under the sun in a fair type atmosphere. Money generated by the event helps non-profits in the area that without the Lion’s help would not exist. The Market started when Wimberley was just a settlement really, with folks from throughout the Valley bringing their goods to the Square on Saturday to sell. The Lions Club moved the Market Days to Lion’s Field in 1971, where it has become an institution. Not only is it the second largest open air flea market in the state,

it’s also the oldest. According to Lions Club member Dave Osborn, Market Day offers “good people, good food, good times all in small town Texas.” Concession stands are all around and breakfast tacos are offered for early visitors. Barbecue meats start smoking at 4 a.m. to ensure the flavor is just right. Other foods such as hot dogs, hamburgers are also available. Volunteers are on hand providing information, directions, and doggie doo-doo bags for folks who bring their 4-legged friends, which must be kept on a leash and picked up after. The volunteers will even help you get your stuff to your car if it is too big to carry. The Wimberley Lions Club’s Market Days are located at 601 FM 2325 Lion’s Field, Wimberley, TX 78676.
