Getting A Mortgage More Than Just a Low Rate
Y
ou've waited, debated, and made the decision. It's time to buy a new home or refinance your mortgage. Congratulations ! Now what are your mortgage options? Unfortunately, what seems like a no-brainer - just find the place with the lowest interest rate- is actually how many people find themselves in trouble later. They just walk into a place with the lowest interest rate advertising, fill out a ton of paperwork and walk out with their loan. But this is absolutely the wrong thing to do. Once you sign off, you will have a large financial obligation that will last in the neighborhood of thirty or more years. By the time you pay this loan off, your grandchildren may be hitting you up for money. So while you may want to get a jump on things, now is the time to slow down and consider all your options to ensure you make a good decision. So here are some facts to research before you sign on the dotted line.
Friends are usually eager to tell you who they like or what problems you might encounter. 2. Do your research about mortgages in your area. Call the Better Business Bureau and make sure you are dealing with a reputable company. 3. Learn the jargon. Do you know what a point is? How about an ARM? What are the going rates in your area? Make sure and understand all the fine print. This is a lifetime loan. 4. Meet with the loan officers. Make sure that they will call you back with any questions you might have. Communication is a must when acquiring a loan. Remember this: You will be signing a whole slew of papers for this loan and you should be comfortable with all the details of the transaction. Even though you are the one borrowing the money, you are the customer and should always be treated with respect.
1. Ask your friends if they've financed recently and who did they use?

Reading, Writing, Arithmetic and ...Drama! Children learn to read and write at school, and that's great because these are fundamental skills that everyone needs. But how about a child's communication skills? Can your child speak in front of strangers with confidence? Considering that every adult will at some time have to be able to talk at ease with a stranger, or showcase an idea or talent, is why communication skills are also just as important to their education as reading, writing and arithmetic.
T H E 5 A M A Z I N G B E N E F I TS OF DRAMA FOR CHILDREN 1. CONFIDENCE: Some children are obviously shy and not at all confident about coming forward and standing out. However, improving self-confidence is something that many children can benefit from, even those who, on the surface, may already appear to be quite sure of themselves.
2. LANGUAGE SKILLS: It seems obvious to say that drama, theater and the performing arts improves verbal and nonverbal communication, but it is worth stating that this benefits young people throughout their life.
3. IMAGINATION: Being creative and learning to make creative choices helps students to be better at thinking of new ideas, by allowing them to view the world around them in new ways. Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.
4. CONCENTRATION: Playing, practicing, and performing will develop the ability and skills to be able to focus the mind, the body, and the voice.
5. FUN:
Kids and teens in our Drama Kids classes have tons of fun as they expand their skills in acting, public speaking &ODVVHV IRU DJHV &\SUHVV 6SULQJ .OHLQ &\ )DLU 7RPEDOO and performing. And that foundation can have a dramatic impact on confidence, academic and personal success. JOIN TODAY!

Jake's Atomic Salsa!
S
alyards Middle School seventh-grade student, Jacob Johnson, found a unique way to spice up his college savings goals when he launched his own homemade salsa business in 2014, as a fifth-grader at Rennell Elementary School. “I wanted to make a citrusy salsa without cilantro or big chunks of onion so I worked with my step-dad on the ingredients until we got it just right,” said Johnson, whose family has always been active with cooking and grilling. “After we perfected the recipe, I just wanted to share it with everyone. I thought it was so good so I started taking it to school with me.” Word began to spread throughout Rennell, and the demand became so great that Johnson started selling his signature recipe in mason jars for $5 apiece. Jake’s Atomic Salsa was born, using what he calls “all-natural, fresh ingredients, grilled peppers blended to dipping perfection,” the salsa comes in four levels of heat that tie into his career aspiration of geology: Molecular (mild), Fore-shock (medium), Aftershock (hot) and Radioactive (atomic). Proceeds from salsa sales go directly into Johnson’s college savings fund. His goal is to save up enough money to pursue a geology degree at Texas A&M University. “I want to be a geologist so I know I will be at A&M for a while and I’m ready to get started on that,” he said. “I have my own savings account and I appreciate all my customers that have contributed to it.”

Old Man WINTER Headed Our Way OR, Maybe Not...
O
ld Farmer's Almanac Forecast: “Winter will be much warmer than normal, with below-normal precipitation. The coldest periods will be in late December, early to mid- and mid- to late January, and early February.” "The Old Farmer’s Almanac", which has been giving forecasts for over 100 years, is predicting a brutal winter for the northern states, but for us it looks like warmer than normal and dry winter months. That doesn't mean we won't see at least one blue norther

but for the most part, we won't need a heavy coat. Just a sweater or two should do the trick. That said, it also means that our yards will probably keep growing and that a dry winter brings with it watering concerns. Most of us try and just forget about the yard over the winter, but if the "Almanac" is correct, this year won't be normal. It also means, that the sprinkler system you try and forget for a few months will be working overtime and it's best to have it in tip top shape to make sure all is working smoothly. While we will see some cooler weather, that doesn't stop the grass from needing special attention.

THIS OLD DOOR It's
fall and yet the leaves aren't falling, temperatures are still warm, but the festivities and fun are here anyway. Fall brings caramel apples, popcorn balls, and loads of friends over to watch football. So what is the first thing that greets them when they arrive at your home? If you guessed, your front door, you would be correct.
It's all well and good to hang a fall wreath on the door and hope no one notices that the door stain is wearing thin or that your weather stripping has out worn its usefulness. The issue is these problems can't simply be fixed by a fall wreath or a skull and cross bones for Halloween that only enhances the view that your home may well be haunted.
Now is the time to put your best facade forward by refinishing a dated, dull front door and replace the worn weather-stripping. Folks who pass by can’t see what fixtures you’ve got in the bathroom or what your cabinets look like in the kitchen, but do they see your front door. Refinishing your front door is not a job for a beginner nor is it a quick Saturday project. This is one job that you will actually save money and time by calling in an expert company, like Ricks Front Door Refinishing. He can repair the cracks made by sun damage, refinish the door and replace old weather stripping in the amount of time you would spend trying to read up on do-ityourself sites and trying to find the correct materials to use. Bonded and insured, Ricks Front Door lets you kick off the fall season right with a front door that makes a statement when friends come calling.

THE FLOODING OF CYPRESS CREEK “The primary source of damaging floods along Cypress Creek increased development of the floodplain”
T
he Cypress Creek Watershed is a 320 squaremile drainage collection basin, the largest in Harris County. Because of its size, it has the potential for receiving greater volumes of floodwater than other watersheds in Harris County. It is also one of the fastest growing urban areas in Harris County. Left in its natural state, the watershed’s pastureland and forests was able to absorb significant rainfall before draining into Cypress Creek and its tributaries. But urban development now covers much of the surface with an overlay of impervious concrete/asphalt, preventing its natural absorption of rainfall. These man-made changes to the land significantly increase both the volume and rate of water run-off flowing into the drainage channels, resulting in deeper and more frequent flooding.
www.uptowncountrymagazine.com
What does this all mean to you and your Cypress home? Basically that you need flood insurance – whether or not your home shows up in the flood plain maps. With all the new development and urban sprawl, you can't trust your home and family won't be the next victim of torrential rain or storm events. It isn't expensive to purchase government flood insurance, and not taking advantage of this reliable tool to safeguard your home may be the most costly thing you have every done.

Everyone Can Benefit From Sports Massage Therapy
N
ow more than ever before, people are spending hours upon hours behind a desk, in an often uncomfortable office chair, in front of a computer – furiously typing the day away, eating a rushed lunch at the desk – working, working, working. There’s even a name for it – Sitting Disease. And while, no doubt, this work requires
brainpower, it is sedentary – and sitting at your desk for extended periods of time definitely takes its toll on your body. Almost everyone knows the benefits Massage Therapy provides for relieving stress, sore muscles, anxiety and even depression. While, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage and trigger point / targeted treatment massage are
common and effective techniques used to alleviate these symptoms, one form of Massage Therapy that’s equally, if not more effective, is Sports Massage Therapy. We know what you’re thinking. “I’m not an athlete. I don’t do any rigorous activity – I don’t need Sports Massage Therapy.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS Adding highlights to your hair is one of the best ways to makeover your look, add some color, enhance your existing shade, or just simply to give you a look you’ll love for Fall and the Holiday Season Ahead.
H
ightlights can be used in a myriad of ways to turn ordinary tresses into vibrant, showy, and intensified colored hair. Often, women are confused about which highlights would look the best with their natural hair color. Well, here's a small secret -- choosing highlights lies in the kind of look you want to create, your particular skin tone, eye color, and the haircut that you sport. Why are you getting highlights done for your hair? Is it to cover your grays or just to revamp your look? Depending on your requirement, you may take the first step in deciding why and what look you wish to achieve. You've read the warning before that says,"Please Don't Try This at Home." The same applies when it comes to hair coloring or highlighting. Always, and I mean always, consult A professional stylist, like Classic Hair to help you decide what is best for you and to create the look you want. elcome the new fall season by changing and updating the look of your front porch. You don't have to be a decorating expert to do this, nor do you need to spend a fortune on giving your house its new appeal. Below are some simple ideas:
BRING ON THE PUMPKINS The holidays of the fall season are usually marked by pumpkins and you can use them as your theme for decorating. The shade of orange is heavily favored during this time of the year so you can use this as the prominent color. LIGHT IT UP Placing a lantern on a small table as it gets darker earlier changes your outdoor furniture to a nostalgic look that invites you to sit down and relax in the cooler fall temperatures. CELEBRATE THE HARVEST Pile on the gourds and mums to make an autumn spread to showcase the season's bounty. PUT A BOW ON IT Pretty-up your pumpkin patch by wrapping decorative ribbon around the center of your pumpkins and gourds and then tying a bow. HANG A RUSTIC WREATH ON YOUR DOOR Don't forget your door when decorating the porch. A simple grapevine wreath, or rustic burlap wreath is perfect for the fall season. www.uptowncountrymagazine.com

Hunting Season Just Around The Corner “What Can you Expect?” exas, which is known for its expansive deer population and its avid hunters is getting ready for what it hopes is a great hunting season. In fact, this is shaping

up as one of the better ones. Since the drought conditions across Texas have faded and two years of rain have helped the native deer rebound, we find
that most deer herds are in the best condition wildlife managers have seen in years. With a better body development comes antler growth which should be excellent as well. As deer stands are refitted for the upcoming hunt and deer feeders are filled, one negative to the hunting season begins to immerge. The rain also allows natural deer forage which is scarce during years of scant rain. With that in mine, the feeder isn't that important to deer which have plenty to eat in their natural habitat. Deer won't be traveling far to find your feeder if food sources are plentiful. Instead they will be sticking “close to

home” to find their meals. In areas with thick vegetation from the rains and no cold snap to stunt their growth, your ability to see movement will also be dulled. As the season wears on, and cold weather hopefully moving in, this is more a problem for the beginning of hunting season then later in the year. With a population of over 4 million White Tail deer in Texas this is looking like a great season for deer hunters. When all your hard work of scouting and hunting pays off – your freezer is full of meat for the year – your trophy buck is mounted – and you will be left with memories of this being one of the best hunting years. www.uptowncountrymagazine.com

OH RATS!!!! T
Un-invite This Guest To Your Holiday Celebrations. he first spell of cool weather will have mice scurrying into your home according to Steve Durham of EnviroCon. They only need a dime-sized opening and just like us they will be looking for somewhere warm with lots of food.
The easiest way to know they have arrived is to check your pantry for any signs of gnawed boxes of pasta or cereal. Check for droppings and listen for any scratching sounds coming from the walls. In a short amount of time a mouse can produce six babies and require less than a month between births. The good thing is they can be removed and the holes sealed that gave them entrance. It usually only takes a couple of days for a professional pest control to make your house air tight and remove the mice that have made your house their home.
