One of the bobbers suddenly gave a nervous â&#x20AC;&#x153;twitchâ&#x20AC;?, bounced twice and then headed for deeper water. The little rod arced dangerously, the kid let out an excited yell -:0 @41 Ĺ&#x2039; 34@ C-? ;: @ C-? @;A/4 and go for a minute but the constant pressure of the little rod soon 4-0 @41 V <8A? <;A:0 /-@Ĺ&#x2039; ?4 41-0

Many years ago I used to visit my grandparents in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and my grandmother was the queen of catching slab-size bream.

So why should you even use a bobber? Well for starters it will keep the bait you are using above any snags.

As you all know this can be really important - especially if kids are involved.

All you do is press the button in, loop your line around the small metal hook that protrudes and then release the button to secure the line. Most anglers also like to secure the line to the top of the bobber. If you are using a cane pole simply swing the baited rig out to a

One bobber that I have used quite a bit is a clear plastic model that comes apart in the center so that a bit of water can be added inside. One thing I have noticed when .>1-9 Ĺ&#x2039; ?45:3 5? @4-@ @41 ;8p 3->01: wiggle worm seems to be the bait of choice. And for good reason â&#x20AC;&#x201C; it works! One word of advice â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t put the entire worm on the hook because the bream or perch will usually get most of it without being hooked.

Cut the worm in smaller sections and place these on the tip of the hook.

Your percentage of catches will go up and you will have lots more bait to use on your next outing.

he renowned artist Don Edwards presented his painting at the TBLA Poster Unveiling and Auction held on March 2, at Cypress Bend Resort. The Unveiling signals the start of TBLAâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 15th Annual Fundraiser that will culminate with the Bass Unlimited â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Back A Great Fighter Banquet on Friday, April 21 at Cypress Bend Pavilion.

Mrs. Dean introduced Don Edwards, along with poster sponsors, Rick and Sabina Rowe of Toledo Town Hardware and Supply. Mr. Edwards, and Mr. and Mrs. Rowe dropped the veils to reveal the original painting and signed poster #1.

In honor of Toledo Bend being named #1 Bass Fishing Lake in the nation for the last two years, Don Edwards named his original art work â&#x20AC;&#x153;Toledo Bend #1â&#x20AC;?, which depicts a â&#x20AC;&#x153;lunkerâ&#x20AC;? bass hooked on a lure. Cypress Bend Pavilion, where many bass tournaments are held each year, is shown in the background. An outline of the lake and Edwardsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; signature â&#x20AC;&#x153;redheaded woodpeckerâ&#x20AC;? are cleverly hidden in the painting.

Mrs. Dean thanked Mr. and Mrs. Rowe of Toledo Town Hardware and presented them with signed poster #2. Mr. Rowe expressed appreciation for the poster and his excitement over their sponsorship. He then presented artist Don Edwards with a plaque of appreciation.

Toledo Bend is known for lunker bass, and Courvelle said the set-up they used in the Central Open was productive for a couple of reasons.

he weather is warm and getting warmer . We can safely call the months of May and June our late Spring and early Summer. If you have some partial shade, that will be the right place to put the young plants before they go in the ground in the Fall. Please note that when the label on the plant or seeds says â&#x20AC;&#x153;Full Sun,â&#x20AC;? they are not talking about our climate.

Most young growing things can deal with morning sun of about 3-5 hours and some shade for the hard Western exposure in the afternoon. So, if it says â&#x20AC;&#x153;Full Sun,â&#x20AC;? donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t you believe it.

It is a great time to clean up from the Winter cold and wind. You can easily work for several hours in the morning and late afternoon. Take a trip to some landscape nurseries or plant farms within a short drive. In doing so, you will have an opportunity to get ;A@ @41>1 -:0 1:6;E @45? '& ' part of the country. No matter where you are along the length of Toledo Bend Lake, there are breathtaking vistas in every direction. One of the great things about where we are is that the growing things do not need to be im-

ported from faraway places. We have ?;91 Ĺ&#x2039;:1 A>?1>E 2;87? @4-@ ?<1/5-85F1 in natives that will grow well here. Ask around for sources in your area. There is no shame in asking anyone that has a great looking place about how they created and cared for it. Actual person to person communication cannot be over rated.

These plants are so versatile that they can appear in your salad or on your roof, Nintendo of America has a green roof of Se-

dum covering 75,000 square feet. They are drought, frost, and deer resistant. My favorite is â&#x20AC;&#x153;Autumn ;E s 5@ 4-? 8->31 Ĺ&#x152;AĹ&#x160;E <5:7 Ĺ&#x152;;C1> 41-0? that are long lasting and dry well. The .A@@1>Ĺ&#x152;51? 8;B1 @419 and they look great all year long and start all over as soon as the Ĺ&#x2039;>?@ C->9 C1-@4er comes. Another succulent favorite is the Kalanchoe with more varieties and colors every season.

Salvia is the largest genus of plants in the mint family, lamiaceae, with not quite 1,000 species.

The Salvia are usually know as Sage and are long blooming, deer resistant and easy to care for.

They are available in both â&#x20AC;&#x153;old worldâ&#x20AC;?

It is believed that garden cultivation of Roses began during the period of the Roman Empire or 5,000 years ago in China. Much has been written about the value of the Rose concerning its place in history or its intrinsic value.

The ancient hedge rose was rediscovered in American in 1979, brought to market by Jackson & Perkins. It could
