LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello again neighbors. Fall is one of my favorite times of year and there is no better place to spend it than in Timberwood Park. Karen O’Neil, our fantastic Social Committee chair person, and her team have done another fabulous job scheduling many fun events for everyone this year. The Halloween Event was another big hit this year. Along with the family camp out and the late season MIP events, residents are having lots of fun. It is really great to go to these events and see all the happy adults and kids enjoying the park and the activities. A shout out “THANK YOU” to all of the volunteers who help with these events. If you would like to volunteer for any of our events, please contact timberwoodnews@ gmail.com. The newest updated amenity to the park is the sand volleyball court. Robert and Matthew, our on-site maintenance crew, did a fantastic job of rebuilding one of the old courts and the new court is seeing plenty of high spiking action. If you haven’t tried your angling skills at the lake lately, now is a great time. Rumor has it that several 2-3 pound bass have been pulled from the water, but please remember, catch and release only.

All these projects and the great social events we have, help in making Timberwood Park the #3 best place to live according to San Antonio magazine. The three folks that get elected will join the other existing four members that will be responsible for allocating your assessment money towards running the community and any capital improvements.
At the October Board meeting, attendees got a chance to meet the candidates that are running for the three open positions. The Annual Meeting notice and Proxy/Absentee ballots were sent out at the end of October, and by now, all property owners should have received the election information. It is very important that each resident take the time to vote and to vote for the candidates that you believe will take the community in the direction you want. I believe the current and past Board members have done an excellent job for the community by adding amenities such as the playground restroom, new basketball courts, one refurbished and two new

One challenge that faces the Board and the community is whether or not to proceed to spend association money doing the due diligence required to determine if we move forward on the project. Please read this clubhouse vote carefully and all the information supplied with the vote and make your voice heard. Please also talk with your neighbors about casting their votes. This vote will determine if the Board spends money to move forward with the due diligence process of

developing sketches and plans, putting together pricing estimates, specifications, and meetings with City and County officials. This vote does not mean that we will build or remodel the existing clubhouse, it only allows us to spend money to move the process forward. If residents approve this phase, the Board will proceed and meet with architects, planners, and other entities to gather more information. Once the board has enough information to proceed to the next step, another vote will be taken to see if we proceed with the construction of the project. The Board plans to update residents on the process at Board meetings with information as it is gathered.
The Clubhouse is open to property owners and their guests Thursday through Sunday, from 9:00AM to 9:00PM. The Clubhouse is closed on Mondays for cleaning.
Fitness Center Hours: Monday: 12:00PM- 9:30PM Tuesday-Sunday: 5:30AM - 9:30PM The Fitness Center is closed on Monday until 12:00PM for equipment maintenance and cleaning.
Timberwood Park has been around for over 40 years and as more and more families move into the area the need to update the clubhouse becomes more apparent. The community has outgrown the facility and it no longer fulfills our needs. If you ever get the chance to visit communities comparable to ours, you will find larger clubhouses with up to date features. When you visit our park, you see all the new amenities and a beautiful lake, but the main clubhouse is an old, outdated building. As we move forward with other improvements in the park, it becomes more evident each year that a clubhouse project is needed. Another point is that we can do a clubhouse project without raising our unbelievably low assessment rate of $217 per year. An additional consideration should be that as time goes by, labor and material costs continue to rise so the longer we wait to take action on this project, the more expensive it will be. The city of San Antonio is about to adopt new energy and building codes that will affect building costs significantly. The construction industry in San Antonio is so strong and contractors are overloaded. These factors could push construction cost up as much as 15 – 20% for next year. Similar to what we’ve seen with the public school bond projects, the longer we wait, the higher the price tag.

Timberwood Park Owners Association Board Meeting Minutes October 4, 2016 The Board of Directors for Timberwood Park Owners Association (TPOA) held a public meeting at the TPOA Clubhouse. It was called to order at 6:00 pm with a quorum of Board members in attendance. TPOA Board members present were Doug Eberle, Chris Martinez, Greg Matula, Rick Mesa, Scott Myles, Karen O'Neil, and Craig Zenner. Rules of Meeting Conduct Mr. Myles referenced a handout that was presented to all attendees that stated rules of meeting conduct to allow for better communication between the floor and the board, and for more courtesy and control among all meeting attendees. Treasurer’s Report Mr. Zenner referenced the financial state of the

association, reporting that TPOA’s total amount of money in all accounts at the time of the meeting was $450,608. Approximately $24,382 in delinquent assessment fees remained outstanding as of October 2, 2016. Mr. Zenner then presented the 2017 budget, which was reviewed and discussed. After discussion and questions & answers, a motion was made to approve the budget, and the motion was duly seconded. The Board members voted unanimously to approve the budget. Clubhouse Vote Mr. Myles noted that based on community input, a communitywide vote will be taken in order to determine whether or not to proceed with the planning efforts. Halloween Event Mr. Myles and Ms. O’Neil discussed changes to this year’s Halloween in the Park event aimed at helping reduce the entrance of non-Timberwood Park residents or their invited guests. To enter, groups must be in possession of either a park gate entrance card or a guest wristband, which can be obtained at the park office with the contribution of a bag of candy. Parking in the parking lot will be restricted to those with gate cards, through the Timberline gate only – the back gate will be open for pedestrian access only. The parking and entrance will be monitored by offduty sheriff deputies and police on both sides.
Meet the Candidates With TPOA Board election coming up in December, there will be three Board positions opening up. Candidates who had nominated themselves for the election were invited to introduce themselves and speak at the meeting. Candidates who did so included Jim Burdine, Paula Dimmit, Mike Griffin, Chris Martinez, Greg Matula, and Scotty Myles. Rita Andrews and Corrina Green, who are also running for Board positions, were unable to make the meeting.

Aging Report Board Election Timeline The Board reviewed the aging report and voted to send the following accounts to the association’s attorney:
Mr. Myles stated that the ballots for this year’s Board Member election and annual Meeting notice would be mailed to residents on or around October 24, 2016. He also urged those present to carefully review the voting instructions on the ballot. The votes are to be tallied at the TPOA Annual Meeting on Tuesday, December 6.

Timberwood Park Triathlon Our 3rd family triathlon was a big success this year! We had 4 age groups that competed in the swim, bike, run event with lots of smiles and hardware at the finish line. We want to say a special thanks to all of our athletes who participated and a big thanks to all of you who came out and volunteered at the event. Without volunteers these athletes can't participate, so on behalf of all the athletes and myself. THANK YOU!! We hope you will join us for the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, we are already looking for volunteers for that as we hope to have a course option outside of the park. If you would like to volunteer please email timberwoodnews@gmail.com. Update on Borgfeld Phase 2

The TPOA recently reached out to Bexar County Public Works regarding the second phase of the Borgfeld Drive project, which will widen and improve the road from Timberline to Blanco Road. They indicated that they are currently working with the utility companies to get their facilities that are located along that stretch of the road relocated, but they but we are hoping to advertise the project within the month (from the early October time when this article was written), which would put construction potentially beginning in late January or early February 2017. From that point, the project is expected to take 20 months, but that does not include potential/likely weather delays.

EVERYDAY 46 kids will be diagnosed with cancer and 7 will die, yet Childhood cancer research receives less than 4% of NCI funding. Ideas for Home Defense/Keep Burglars Away from your Home In order to make this a fast read, I have formatted the article in an outline format. Here are ideas to consider to improve home safety:
- Install motion-activated perimeter lighting on your house- Burglars hate light
- Keep Garage Door Closed as much as Possible & remove door chain releases • Biggest door to your house • Displays all your items in garage • Once inside the garage, the burglar will close it & break into back door as his/her leisure • Close the garage as soon as you exit the car in the garage
- Shield windows adjacent to door locks with Plexiglas (otherwise burglars break side glass; reach in and unlock the door) and/or install doublesided keyed locks on doors
- Install a monitored security system and TURN IT ON WHEN YOU LEAVE! It doesn’t do any good if it’s off. • Law enforcement encourages you to get remotes to arm/disarm your security system and then set all entrances to “zero delayâ€? when entrance is opened – thus reduces time burglar has to go thru your house before the sheriff arrives!!
- Install locks with log-throw deadbolts and 3 inch screws attaching the faceplates on the door jam - Don’t advertise your purchases – cut up boxes/ packaging and place in recycle bins or tie up in bundles when setting out for the trash collectors - Close the blind/shades in evening and when you’re away to NOT allow burglars to “Window Shop� your interior belongings
- Post a Beware of Dog Sign – Even if you don’t have one. Dogs bark & bite- Burglars hate them
- Get a home inspection/safety checkup by the sheriff’s dept. call 210-335-6000 for appt.
- Post a Video Surveillance sign in front of home- even if you don’t have one!! Burglars do not want to be photographed
- Advise trusted neighbors when you’re going to be away; they can watch your house!!
- Leave bike or kids toys in yard – Burglars like to stay away from homes with small kids
- Ensure Windows and doors ARE LOCKED when you leave- don’t Assume they are!!
- Stay out of the Obituary listings – lets burglars know that you may be attending a funeral & thus not be home
- Keep valuables in secure hiding places- Not in master bedroom or master bath = the 1st & 2nd places burglars go to find valuables • Make a list or video your valuables as well.
- Prune trees and shrubs away/clear view of windows, doors & porches to ensure visible from street – no place for Burglars to hide while breaking in

Timberwood Park Cellular On Patrol We need more volunteers to make this program effective. We’d like you to join. Here are the program details: - All COP volunteers must take 3 1/2 hour training (no charge) provided by Bexar County Sheriff Dept. • Sheriff would provide on-site training at TWP clubhouse if 10 or more volunteers come to training.
WE will obtain new magnetic signage with day-glow backgrounds, so that neighbors and the bad guys can easily spot patrolling COP teams and not call the sheriff as “suspicious� vehicles.
- COP volunteers can patrol day or night, on dates they desire, during times they desire. • COP Program leader would provide suggested areas where patrolling would best be covered (areas with more-frequent crime) – but solely voluntary for those patrolling
- A set of Magnetic signs would be given to each COP team
- COP Volunteers can pick their own team members to patrol with -- BUT team members must also take the training - COP volunteers cannot patrol alone
As an incentive, The HOA Board has approved that those volunteers who perform and report upon six patrols, will receive 50% off their annual family pool membership!!! Any Interest in the Neighborhood in Starting a Venturing Crew Program? Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and under 21 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults, with an emphasis in adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service. We would meet at least twice/month; one meeting to plan the event and get some physical conditioning in, the next meeting would be the actual event.
