LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello fellow property owners. It’s already in the middle of spring and things are bustling at the park. If you’ve been there lately you may have noticed some more changes. The very old larger playground has been removed and a new swing set is scheduled to be put in its place. Some of the fencing around the playground was removed to open the area up and we plan to put some more tables or benches close to the new swing set. All the gravel has been removed, and kid cushion play mulch has been installed around all play equipment.

While the running of the event is done by resident volunteers, this is a county sponsored event. Bexar County Public Works hauls off the brush, turns it into mulch, and then delivers it back to the park for residents to use. This event is paid for by your county tax dollars. This large event requires many volunteers. It is a dirty job and we appreciate the folks who roll up their sleeves and help.
The Clubhouse is open to property owners and their guests Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:00AM to 9:00PM. The Clubhouse is closed on Mondays for cleaning.

Timberwood Park Owners Association Pool Rules 2016 Season
The 2016 Timberwood Park pool season officially begins on Friday, April 15! Pool passes are on sale and can be purchased in the park office, which is open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday or at the Spectrum offices located at 17319 San Pedro, Suite 318 San Antonio, TX 78232 from 9am- 5pm. To purchase the pool membership this year, your park amenity cards will need to be with you to be activated at the pool entrance gate. Membership and price options for this year include the following:
I. Introduction The safety and enjoyment of the members of the community are of primary concern in the operation of our pool. We expect all pool users show courtesy and consideration for others in the use of the pool and cooperate with the lifeguards/managing agents in their daily management of the pool. We appreciate your cooperation with their directives or requests regarding safety. Please abide by the rules and guidelines, and curtail any activity that interferes with the swimming enjoyment of others. Timberwood Park Owners Association, Inc., Spectrum Association Management, or managing agents (referring to employees hereafter) reserve the right to close the pool at any time due to emergency, scheduled and unscheduled cleaning, repairs, inclement weather or lifeguard availability.
Single Membership for $160 Family Membership for $200 Swim Team Membership for $100 for duration of swim season (cards will be deactivated on July 1) Half-Season Family Membership for $125 (starts after swim season; cards will be activated on July 1) Half-Season Individual Membership for $100 (starts after swim season; cards will be activated on July 1) Senior (65+) Family Membership for $160 Senior (65+) Single Membership for $120 Senior (65+) Family Half Season Membership for $100 Senior (65+) Single Half Season Membership for $80 Two-Week Pass for $50 Guest use $3 per person. Must be a guest of a pool member; there is not day-use option.
II. Swim at Your Own Risk/Season/Hours/Lifeguards/ Managing Agents The pool is available for swimming at your own risk by means of a pool access card throughout the pool season after an association member has signed a pool waiver and agreed to the rules. a. It is the responsibility of the person(s) using the pool to secure the access gate while using the pool and upon departure. b. It is also the responsibility of anyone using the pool to not allow anyone who does not have an active pool card in their possession from entering the pool area c. Pool Season is April 15 to October 18. Pool closing date is subject to change due to weather. d. Pool Hours are 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. TuesdaySunday. The pool is closed on Mondays for maintenance; if a holiday falls on a Monday, the pool will be closed the following day (Tuesday). Pool entrance cards do not allow access after or before pool hours. e. The presence of the lifeguards/managing agents at the pool is neither an implicit or explicit guarantee of the safety of any pool user at any time. Lifeguards will be on duty during peak hours as determined by the TPOA Board of Directors. Peak hours are defined as 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday during the summer season, June 2-August 24.

III. Pool Use, Fees, Guest Policy and User Responsibility a. Use of the pool is restricted to the Timberwood Park property owners who pay the membership fee and whose Association assessment fees are current. b. The maximum occupancy of the swimming pool and surrounding area is 185 people. c. Use of the pool is a privilege subject to revocation upon violation of these rules as determined by the TPOA Board of Directors. Violation of these rules, as well as any other dangerous, unsafe or objectionable behavior shall be reported to the TPOA Board, Spectrum and employees. d. An annual fee will be charged to property owners and

There is a limit of 10 guests PER GROUP. All guests must be accompanied by a parent or adult member, age 18 or older. g. Groups larger than 10 must register and pre-pay through the office 7 days prior to the event to ensure appropriate staffing (lifeguard, pool monitor, etc.). Those with groups of 25 or more will be required to pay a $100 per 25 guests to cover additional lifeguards necessary, in addition to $3 per guest. Parties of 10 or more attempting to enter without prior notice will be turned away. The pool cannot close for private parties; it must remain available for all pool members during open hours. h. Persons using the pool do so at their own risk. TPOA, Spectrum and employees are not responsible for accidents, injuries, or loss of or damage to personal property. The ultimate responsibility rests with the pool members and pool users who are homeowners in the Timberwood Park community.
• Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult (18+ years). • Children 13-17 may swim without an accompanying adult only when a lifeguard is present. • Under all circumstances, the pool is swim at your own risk. • Pool users must be properly attired in swimwear. No cut off pants are permitted in the pool. All children under 3 must wear a swim diaper (provided for $2 if needed). • Long hair must be tied up or in a swim cap. • Safety equipment is to be used only in the case of an emergency • Any person who, in the sole judgement of the employee, appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be excluded from the pool area. • Pool games allowed at the discretion of the lifeguards and on a non-interference basis with other members. • The pool closes for 30 minutes any time an employee hears thunder or sees lightning. Each new incident resets the timer until reopening. Please be patient during these times, our primary concern is your safety. • Only swimmers of adequate ability may use the diving board as determined by a lifeguard. Floatation devices are not permitted on the diving board, and divers cannot need additional assistance to complete their dive. There is to be no use of the diving board when a lifeguard is not present. • Swim lessons between pool members are allowed on a noninterference basis with other pool users. • The lifeguards/managing agents on duty are empowered to limit pool usage using disciplinary ‘time outs’ and/or by asking a patron to leave the pool. ° First offense: verbal warning ° Second offense: 20-minute time out for the individual ° Third offense: individual ejected from pool area for the remainder of the day ° Members found arguing with these employees, or repeatedly breaking the rules can lose their pool membership for the remainder of the season, with no refund. Should a member have a question or disagree with a rule, they can contact Spectrum personnel or a TPOA board member. Employees on site are only doing their job and enforcing rules they’ve been assigned. ° Please report any damage or vandalism to the pool and surrounding area immediately to employees or Spectrum so the problem can be resolved in a timely manner and to reduce potential safety hazards to others.
IV. Pool Conduct a. Lifeguards/managing agents are in charge of the pool at all times. Their primary function is to keep the pool safe for all users by enforcing pool rules. It is at their discretion to apply safeguards that are not addressed in these rules in order to maintain a safe experience for all pool users. Pool members must adhere to the following rules: i. Items/behaviors not permitted in the pool area: 1. Smoking-please smoke near covered patio 2. Running or excessive horseplay 3. Foul/vulgar language, excessive noise and radios 4. Balloons or other items that could clog pumps 5. Pets (except service animals) 6. Glass items 7. Public consumption of alcohol 8. Roller/in-line skates, scooters, skateboards or bicycles 9. Toys or sports equipment, at staff discretion • All members and guests using the pool must dispose of all trash, including leftover food items, in trash cans provided in the pool area.

MU S I C I N T H E PAR K U PCO M IN G SEA SO N We are very excited to have the best Music in the Park series yet this year and our MIP Committee is working hard scouting out great new bands and booking the ones we love to come back to our stage!!! We kick off the year with our 2nd annual Timberwood Park BBQ Cookoff on 4/2 and will have a trailer stage and screen in the parking lot with acoustic musicians from 12-4 and then a band from 4-7 p.m. The season will continue every other Friday from there until September when we switch to Saturday nights due to High School Football. 2-3 Food Trucks will be at all shows! This is the most up to date listing as of now!

Small Town Habit is a Texas Country Band based out of Floresville Texas. The band plays a wide variety of music ranging from Cross Canadian Ragweed to Gretchen Wilson and from Merle Hagard to The Dixie Chicks. Not only does Small Town Habit do a great job of making cover songs their own, but the group also has a wide variety of original music some of which is played on San Antonio's 92.5 The Outlaw, KRPT. Small Town Habit has also shared the stage with many talented artists such as: Wade Bowen, Pat Green, The Bellamy Brothers, Mark Chesnutt, Reckless Kelly, Restless Heart, Rick Trevino, Johnny Lee and The Great Divide.

Clint Freeman is new to our stage! He is a singer / songwriter taking Texas by storm with his true country sound and honest lyrics. Originally from Lakeland, Florida Clint served ten years in the United States Coast Guard; after which he moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music. Clint now resides in Corpus Christi, Texas with his wife and children where he continues to perform and write music.
Passing Strangers return to Timberwood Park Music Series after 2 shows last season that packed the park and were a huge success! They have been on the San Antonio music scene for years as a popular 1st Wave/80’s retro/ Alternative band based out of San Antonio. They are best known for the dance remake of Dream Weaver. Passing Strangers play at Sam’s Burger joint, have played recently at the SA Rodeo BBQ Cookoff, and perform all over Texas. Do not miss this show!

Always the most popular event of the season, Two Tons of Steel will be back on our stage on May 13! Two Tons has been packing Gruene Hall every Tuesday for “Two Tons Tuesdays,” every summer for years. We are very fortunate to have Timberwood resident and lead vocals/guitarist, Kevin Geil with Two Tons of Steel, perform just for our neighborhood! Come early to reserve your spot on the lawn, and don’t forget to bring your friends and a cooler of drinks!
Lucas Jack was new last year bringing his piano up on our stage to our Timberwood Park Music Series and was a huge hit! Lucas plays in San Antonio at venues such as University of Incarnate Word and Aztec Theater as well as tours all over Texas! Lucas has opened for Foreigner at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, won the 2014 San Antonio Bud Light Battle of the Bands, and performed the Halftime Show during the NBA Finals at the AT&T Center. We are very excited to have his at the park this year!
Kevin Geil is Lead Singer, songwriter and guitarist for Two Tons of Steel, a renowned Americana/Country/Rockabilly Band that has been together for over two decades. We are lucky to be a part of a successful tour of over 200 dates/year, from Texas to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, where they have performed numerous times, to regular tours in Europe. Two Tons Tuesdays have been a sold-out weekly summer series (June-August) for the last 15 years at Gruene Hall in Gruene, TX. I attended a presentation by law enforcement awhile back on identifying Suspicious activities and/or persons. I have taken a few excerpts from this presentation to provide you so that we all can better recognize not-so-obvious potential crime activities in Timberwood Park and alert the sheriff’s dept.
WRPV RU PRYHPHQWV ² 0D\ EH LQMXUHG RU XQGHU LQà Xence of drugs -- in need of medical or psychiatric help - Open or broken windows on a residence where owners are not home – may be a burglary in progress or has occurred $ à DVKOLJKW EHDP RI OLJKW LQ D QHLJKERU¡V XQRFFXSLHG home- potentially a burglary in progress
Detailed below are of some of these situations: - Unfamiliar Persons taking a short-cut thru someone’s back yard –they may have burglarized a home or vehicle
If you see any of these events, please promptly call the sheriff’s dept non-emergency number (210-335-6000) and report the event. The sheriff will promptly investigate & follow thru to help us mitigate crime.
- Parked, occupied vehicles that contain one or more persons- may be lookouts for a burglary in progress or “casing� potential homes to burglarize

- Vehicles moving slowly & without lights or following an aimless or repetitive course- again maybe “Casing� locations to burglarize - abandoned vehicles parked on the block – may be a stolen vehicle - juveniles or adults walking casually down the street – looking into cars, backyards, etc – may be planning thefts or mischief -Someone-possibly a salesperson - going door-to-door – BUT trying doorknobs or looking into windows – may be potential burglars looking for unoccupied homes -Unfamiliar person(s) removing unpackaged items/ valuables from a home - may be burglars

If you’d like to do something nice for your lawn right now, use a topdressing of compost. It contains nutrients and is an excellent tool for improving the texture and soil structure of the compacted topsoil. There’s a method to applying compost:

• Spread it around in piles on the lawn with a wheelbarrow.
The time to fertilize grass is when it’s actively growing, which usually begins in mid-April. If you still want to do something nice for your lawn right now, apply a topdressing of compost.
• Sling it from the piles onto the grass with a shovel. • Then use a push broom to sweep it off the grass blades and down into the turf.
Just because warmer temps have been hanging around doesn’t mean it’s time to fertilize. That would be a waste of time and effort because most of the chemical fertilizer being added to lawns right now won’t be taken up by the grass. Instead it will run off into the San Antonio River next time it rains, or feed actively growing weeds.
• Water it in to activate the compost microbes and wash them onto your soil. Compost is available in small bagged quantities and it can also be bought and delivered in bulk. You’ll want to spread 1/3 inch of compost over the turf area. Apply compost to grass at a rate of no more than 1 cubic yard per 1,000 square feet.
The time to fertilize grass is when it’s actively growing from spring until fall. Even though it’s warming up, warm season grasses like St. Augustine, zoysia and Bermuda just aren’t actively growing yet — and they won’t be until about six weeks after the last frost. That means about mid-April.
And if you’re still planning on fertilizing, save your effort for April when it may really do some good. Given our climate and soil, steer clear of hedges that require regular trimming in the summer – spring and fall are quite enough. Too much pruning leads to stress, and stress encourages higher water consumption. And we never encourage that!
Those shaggy clumps sticking up out of the lawn right now are likely rescue grass and broadleaf winter weeds like beggar ticks, clover and henbit, not turfgrass.
