Humble ISD 8th graders get advice from older students before transitioning to high school

Eighth graders and their parents heard real-life advice from a panel of high school students through a special livestream event hosted by the Humble ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Students from each high school in Humble ISD answered questions that students commonly have as they transition from middle school to high school. Serenity Garcia Grade 8 Woodcreek Middle School

Q: Should I really go to freshman camp? A: Yes! You definitely should go to freshman camp. It is one of the main things that helped me to get comfortable with the school. They usually take you around to where your classes are going to be and they take you through the extra step that you won’t be able to get the first day of school. Also, you get to meet some of your upper classmen and they’ll get to explain everything to you. They’ll be a friendly face in the hallway and they’ll explain all the stuff that the rule book might not be able to tell you. They really just give you the extra edge, extra step to be ready for your first day of school.

Kai Bonner Grade 8 Woodcreek Middle School Q: Does freshman year really matter? Don’t I have four years to bring my GPA up? A:Yes! Any class that you take your freshman year is going to basically impact where you’re at your senior year. And if you give just a little bit more effort your freshman year, then you’ll be a lot more thankful your senior year.

Adalen Hammond Grade 12 Kingwood Park High School

High school students make a positive difference in our community. I am especially grateful for the students who serve on my Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Humble ISD students in grades 9-12 who were chosen as Students of Character at the end of their eighth grade year make up this group. At our meetings, which have been held by Zoom this school year, students tell me what they love about Humble ISD and identify areas where they would like to see enhancements made. Their input and feedback allows my team to continuously improve what we offer to kids. The Superintendent’s Advisory Council also gives back through student-driven projects, such as hosting High School Hacks. I am proud of the impact students make on our community.

Tammy Broussard was a dear friend and committed supporter of the Whole Kid and Kaboodle. Her ad (Tammy’s Tutoring) ran consistently since she first began. She was active in the Atascocita Garden Club, the American Business Women’s Association and Family Time. She was a volunteer extradonaire and was loved by so many.

Thank you Tammy for the love you gave to the community. We will miss you terribly.
