A Different Kind of Holiday Season
Deborah Elum, Author & Speaker One minute, I was holding one of my earrings in my hand and the next, I was crawling around on the bedroom floor diligently searching for it. I dropped it right before inserting it into my ear. One of my new diamond stud earrings was nowhere in sight! I was not quite sure where it landed. After searching for over two hours, I began to wonder if it was lost for good. One thing for certain, one ear with the earring looked very different from the other ear without one. It reminded me of how different this holiday season looks compared to last year. For many families, this year will mean fewer faces around the dinner table, fewer gifts under the tree, fewer places to shop, and fewer churches that will be open. The impact of COVID-19 can be felt even in a season meant to focus on thankfulness and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. No matter what is going on around us during this season, we must always be thankful that we were once lost in sin but now we have been found because of God’s amazing love and grace. After three hours of searching, I found my other earring at the bottom of a clothes hamper because it was shining. Similarly, even though it is a different kind of holiday season, we know that Jesus sacrificed His life so we too can shine for Him in a dark world.
