It's no secret that the pandemic has caused long-term disruptions in different areas of our lives. For some, it’s an empty shelf at the grocery store due to a supply chain shortage. For others, it's the frustration of trying to buy a home in a wild seller’s market.

For Angel Cruz, it was the car industry. Angel has a long-standing passion when it comes to vehicles. He worked as a technician for BMW for five years where he detailed and painted high-end cars. He also works in insurance, which provides him with an up-close-and-personal perspective on vehicle safety and protection.

Because safety matters, both of Angel’s cars are fuel-efficient family vehicles with five-star safety ratings. Either car can be rented for as little as two days or as a long-term rental. Angel is also able to accommodate last-minute bookings for those who have taken their car in for repairs. His customers range from local businesses who need to make deliveries to residents who want to jet out of town on a trip.

Angel is constantly looking for ways to go above and beyond for his clients. To do that, he doesn't include some of the standard fees that the larger companies charge. For example, he doesn't charge a convenience fee for using the toll tag. You only pay for the tolls you use. He also likes to make the check-in and out process as easy as possible.

When starting his business, Angel simply asked himself, "What would I like from a rental car company?" He then designed his business around that answer. As a special service to the community, Angel provides free rental car delivery to anyone who lives in Providence Village as long as they book directly through him. Otherwise, those who need a rental car are welcome to book with him through the Turo website or app.

Last year, Angel noticed something new. His friends and family wanted to visit him but had a hard time finding a car to rent. The major rental companies were struggling with vehicle shortages, and any available cars were expensive. Angel saw how the challenges weren't just isolated to his own out-of-town guests. Demand was up across the board for rental vehicles. People wanted to travel or were leasing their cars and didn't want to put the extra road trip mileage on them. What Angel didn't see was a solid solution to meet their needs.

So, he combined his industry experience with his passion for customer service and started his own car rental business. He partnered with Turo, a peer-to-peer car-sharing company, and now rents out two cars to our community.

When Angel moved to Providence Village four years ago, he did so because he was drawn to how friendly the community was. He shares how people who didn't even know him would wave hi to him. He felt at home right away. It's that same inviting feeling that he wants to provide his customers. He wants every customer who rents from him to feel like, "That's my neighbor. I can walk to rent my car."

In a season where customer service can feel like a lost art, Angel not only delivers exceptional service, but he also provides a welcomed breath of fresh air.

MAKE A RESERVATION

Where Angel shines is in his customer service. Unlike the larger rental companies, Angel will deliver his cars to his customers. This includes airport drop-offs at DFW and Love Field. After a customer returns the car, Angel puts his detailing skills to work. Each car gets fully serviced and is kept immaculate. He cleans, sanitizes, and tops off the gas tanks before the next customer gets the keys.

Health Health & Wellness 3 Mindset Shifts for a Successful School Year There’s something exciting about a new school year. In a way, it’s a fresh start, full of possibilities and new experiences. But just like any time we do something new in our lives, feelings of anticipation, inspiration, and excitement can be accompanied by fear and worry.

When you are feeling fear, you are likely thinking about something bad happening. Our minds are very good at looking for problems and coming up with all the things that can go wrong.

While this tendency helps us stay alive and out of harm's way, it can also keep us from life as much as we could.

It can be difficult to stop thinking about the “What ifs” – even when we want to. Because our minds like to catastrophize and generalize, sometimes we don’t even know exactly what we are afraid of. It can be helpful to ask yourself, “What exactly am I afraid of?” and “How big of a deal is this?” Getting specific about what you fear can help you address it and may even reduce the intensity of the feeling.

Rather than trying to stop thinking about the things that could go wrong, consider giving at least equal “air time” to thoughts of what you WANT to happen and what could go RIGHT. One of my favorite ways to do this is to look back from the future. Start by closing your eyes and imagining that it’s May 2023. You’ve just had the best school year ever. Now ask yourself, “What happened?”

Spend five minutes writing down all the things that made this school year great. This is something you can do for yourself and/or guide your children through. Not only can you use this exercise to set yourself up for a great school year, but you can use it to set yourself up for success in any situation.

When you purposefully focus your thoughts and attention on what you want – not only is it more likely to happen, but you will enjoy the experience more as well.

Back to School PREPARING OUR KIDS FOR SUCCESS

As we prepare our kids for the new school year, excitement and uncertainty hit our households. Kids get excited to see their friends again, but sometimes there is apprehension about what the new school year may hold. As parents, we can prepare our kids for a new year of school by being an advocate for success. Here are some ways we can prepare our kids to have a successful school year.

ADJUSTING TO NEW ROUTINES Sleep hygiene is important for adults, teens and children. Turning off electronics, technology and blue screens an hour before bedtime helps us all sleep better. Encourage a nightly routine without technology and prepare the body for sleep. This may include taking a shower or bath, brushing teeth, preparing clothes and backpacks for the next day, or reading a book.

Planning a sleep routine prior to the beginning of school is a helpful transition for the whole household. Start putting your child to bed 30-60 minutes earlier each week (depending on how many weeks out you start) until they get to their school bedtime schedule. Same with waking up in the mornings.

If their bedtime is 9:00 pm on school nights and they have been staying up until 11 pm during summer vacation, preparing for success may look something like this: Week 1: Bedtime 10:00 pm, wakeup time 60 minutes earlier Week 2: Bedtime 9:00 pm, wakeup time 60 minutes earlier EMPOWERING KIDS TO MAKE CHOICES All kids have diverse needs. Each child in the home may learn differently from the next, so it is important to see those needs and address them accordingly. Giving kids a voice, and a choice to prepare themselves for success in the new school year, allows them to feel empowered.

Take the opportunity to sit down with your kids and talk to them about what they need in the upcoming school year. They can let you know what things may have been a struggle and what things were helpful for them. If we give kids the opportunity to tell us what helps, them instead of trying to figure it out for them, it shows our kids that they are able to make good decisions for themselves while finding solutions. This also shows them we value their voice, which allows the chance to grow closer as a family.

What learning style does your child have? · Visual · Kinesthetic · Auditory · Read/Write SPENDING TIME TOGETHER It is important for kids to have quality time with their parents each day.

Breakfast and dinner are great times to prepare meals together as well as to sit down and check in with your kids about how their day was.

Planning time together on the weekends with activities such as walking, playing sports, and being creative will potentially help them find a connection with you and show them ways to reduce stress from their week in a healthy way. This can also help us find ways to decompress from our work, school, and day-to-day lives.

We can demonstrate healthy ways of transitioning from our time at school/work to our time at home now, before they go back to school. th might look like voicing needs such as, "I will need 15 That minutes to take a shower (or put my things away), and then I will be right out to spend time with you!" This gives us time to transition between our roles outside and inside of the home. It also provides healthy examples of communicating our needs to our children so they will know how to do it when they arrive home after school.

From the moment you pull up to LizzyGator, you are in for a treat. Unlike any other event venue in this area, LizzyGator brings art, creativity, and a bit of the eccentric together to create an unforgettable ambiance and unique experience.

Nestled in the countryside of southwest Pilot Point, LizzyGator features an intricately designed reception hall, cozy bridal and honeymoon suite, and its iconic twisted little chapel.

From intimate weddings and elopements to parties, corporate seminars, and celebrations of life, LizzyGator provides the ambiance to honor and celebrate all of life's special moments. Photographers can also rent the venue to host their own photoshoots. This variety helps to make LizzyGator one of the best-kept secrets in the area.

Elizabeth Jones and Chris Duncan are the owners and artists behind the magnificence of the LizzyGator event venue. But this locale didn't always have the speakeasy lounge vibe that it has today.

The first phase involved creating the reception hall.

The couple was charged with transforming a 40-year-old mechanic shop into an unconventional and memorable space for a special event experience. Next, they set to work on designing The Loft, an intimate suite boasting a balcony view that overlooks the Pilot Point countryside.

LizzyGator’s pièce de résistance is the realitybending twisted chapel. The couple wanted to create a living piece of art that reflected the twisted, unusual times of the pandemic during which the chapel was constructed. Chris built reclaimed

the chapel entirely by hand using mostly reclaimed and recycled materials. This includes a beautiful antique stained glass window placed at a curious angle in the back of the chapel.

Around the grounds of the chapel and hall are arrangements of native plants and collections of life-sized metal, stone, and natural art.

There's plenty of outdoor seating, stone walkways, and a giant metal tortoise that also doubles as a fire pit.

LizzyGator continues to receive international acclaim. It has been featured six times in various publications, four of which are in the United Kingdom. The most common response to those who host their event at LizzyGator is that they never forget the experience. Even design professionals with decades of venue expertise choose LizzyGator. They do so not only for the aesthetic but also because Elizabeth goes out of her way to cultivate a calm, relaxed experience. While the customer will bring their own food and music, Elizabeth provides a fully decorated venue and one-ofa-kind ambiance.

When designing this venue and the grounds, Elizabeth and Chris did so with the intention of creating an intimate space that’s bold and inviting. I’ve been in the restaurant business all my life. I grew up in it. My father owned a pizzeria in Brooklyn, and I worked there as far back as I can remember. WHY DO WE HATE PAYING TAXES?

America has one of the lowest tax rates in the world, and we each enjoy the benefits of our tax dollars every day. So why do we hate paying taxes?

If you find yourself dreading April 15th or complaining about taxes, recognize it is an authentic American trait. Thanks to the opacity of government processes and complexity of the way we file taxes, it is everyone’s favorite topic to hate. ..

If it were clear what our tax money was spent on, we could appreciate what the government does and identify areas of wasteful spending where it exists. We might even consider filing our tax returns to support the govern government’s efforts. Understanding what the government does may be the first step. Demanding a better tax process would be the second.

For now, I wish we had more time to work on those overly complicated, confusing, redundant, and annoying tax returns that have only gotten more complicated and confusing than ever.

Nothing unites Americans more than their dislike of taxation. This is not universal across the globe; this is a particularly American trait. Other countries have taxes too, but they do not seem to dislike paying them as much as those in the United States. It does not matter which party or person is in the White House or Congress; this is not political; this is not a wrong or right. This is Us, American citizens.

What is it that drives this aversion to taxes?

We do not really know what our government does It is always easier to hate something you do not really understand. In the United States, the government appears absent in our everyday lives.

Research shows that many Americans are not aware of our government’s role in core federal programs such as Social Security and Medicare, not to mention the quieter roles in important activities like encouraging research and innovation, fighting disease, and monitoring food safety.(1) In a 2008 study, 57% of respondents said they had never participated in a government social program. However, 94% of the same respondents reported being beneficiaries of state programs which were in fact funded by Federal dollars.(2) We do not really know what our government does, and we do not really try to find out. We just complain.

Much of the work the government does is invisible by its nature. As an example, we never see the work of food safety, fighting terrorism, investing in systems to detect natural disasters, and keeping planes from colliding – we only notice when things go wrong. Successful disaster prevention efforts are invisible. It is hard for citizens to see and appreciate this work.

The process of paying your taxes is difficult Even if you do understand and appreciate the role of the government in your life, the process of taxes is difficult. The filing of taxes is more complicated, confusing, redundant, and annoying than it needs to be. I would gladly put myself out of business as a Tax Preparer if we could simplify the tax return process.

Humans have suffered from mental health problems throughout history. This is nothing new. While the world was in quarantine over the last few years, many adjusted to a new way of life, which lead to an increase in new mental health cases.

We are not meant to be isolated. While most adults have the coping skills to push through, children and adolescents generally do not. However, it has become clear that there is an abundance of people who do not know how or when to seek help. This could be because they don’t know what to look for, where to look, or, they choose to believe it is not real.

Depression and anxiety are the most common disorders, and they can sneak up when you aren’t looking. Common signs of depression include spending more time alone or isolated, sleep disturbances and decreased pleasure in activities you once enjoyed. The list goes on.

When talking with patients, I always ask about their sleep and if they have problems falling and/or staying asleep. I also ask about appetite and energy level, and I especially want to know what emotions they are feeling most. These few questions can give a plethora of information.

Anxiety is a bit different between adults and children or adolescents. In children and adolescents, they generally start with complaints of stomach pain.

That stomach pain is their anxiety, but they haven’t realized it yet. Anxiety is usually defined as being “on edge,” forgetful and irritable, as well as having difficulty sleeping, vivid dreams, nightmares or any combination of these.

When these symptoms start to become evident, it is important to seek help from a licensed professional.

Therapists can be a good start, but a provider specializing in psychiatry is most beneficial, as they are able diagnose, provide therapy, and prescribe medications when needed. Reaching out for help can prevent a situation from escalating to needing an outpatient or inpatient program.

Umbrellas aren't just for rainy days!

Umbrella insurance can be a confusing term. Simply put, umbrella insurance is an extra layer of liability coverage on top of your existing home and auto policies. Liability insurance covers your financial responsibility to others if you are found liable for their injuries or property losses.

If your home or auto policy doesn’t have the proper liability coverage, you could be held personally responsible for any financial claims above the limits in your policy. An umbrella policy can also provide coverage for slander and libel lawsuits.

At Farmers, we can provide umbrella coverages from $1 million to as much as $10 million. While this might sound like a lot, consider the following example.

Let’s say you or someone in your family is involved in an accident on Highway 380 and is at fault. Multiple cars are damaged, and people are injured. The cost to fix or replace the cars, the treatment of injuries, pain and suffering, and potential lost wages of the people involved in the accident totals $700,000. Let’s also assume the limit on your auto policy is $500,000. In this case, you would be personally responsible for anything above the $500,000 that your auto insurance would pay. If you have an umbrella policy, then the $200,000 that you would be responsible for would be covered, which is MUCH more than an umbrella policy!

The cost for an umbrella policy depends on your personal situation and how much coverage you would like, but is very reasonable for the peace of mind it provides. If you have teen drivers, boats, jet skis or ATVs, a pool or trampoline, a vacation home, or significant assets that you would like to protect, then you may want to consider an umbrella policy.

We believe everyone should have an umbrella policy to protect what is important to them.

Ask any bride, especially one who planned their wedding during a pandemic. That was my story, and from that, Paid to Bridesmaid was born.

Planning a wedding isn't for the faint of heart!

My name is Kisha Balderamos-O’Leary, and I’m the founder of Paid to Bridesmaid — a service designed to help the bride enjoy her special wedding day.

I remember the day I got engaged and how excited I was to finally plan my wedding! The first step was getting organized. So, I leaned on my life experiences as a former active duty Marine and mom of three. From those experiences, I was now an expert in working efficiently and anticipating needs ahead of time.

But nothing prepared me for planning a wedding in a pandemic. My now-husband and I were to marry in October 2020. Soon, we found ourselves with the impossible decision of either postponing the wedding or whittling down our guest list by over ninety percent.

We chose to move forward with our wedding, and what I learned was powerful. Whether I had a guest list of 110 or 8, I still needed help on the big day. I wanted to feel joy and love—not pressure and stress. To do that, I knew I needed help.

There were certain tasks that I needed to delegate so I could be fully present as a bride.

Those tasks became the foundation of Paid to Bridesmaid. Our main slogan is, “More time. More freedom. More fun.” We do this by providing packages that range from helping brides coordinate to being a full-on “wing girl” to the bride.

Getting married is such a special time between two people, their families, and their friends. It’s our greatest honor at Paid to Bridesmaid to come alongside the bride and help make her day truly magical.
